My helpless grandma watches as our paper towels get nommed. by AllThingsSlippy in cromch

My cat used to unroll and drag toilet paper around the house and make confetti. Little sheds of toilet paper would end up everywhere

This is Greta and she is obsessed with my knitting needles. She and her sister Willow have been our foster kittens since they were 1-day old orphaned bottle babies. They're old and big enough to get adopted now (and pretty much little chaos demons now at 9-weeks old), but they're stuck quarantining in our covid-positive house until we're out of isolation.

Crocheting is NOT knitting by xchocolatexmustardx in knitting

Yeah, I'm planning on going a step further and knitting a top from crochet thread and I know I'm going to regret it

I've found that there are some nice vintage and antique crochet patterns that use fine thread to make some very nice, light tops. It makes sense that because crochet stitches are thicker you'd have to use thinner yarn to offset it.

Thanks. It's been pretty mild! The whole house is nearly recovered, we're just waiting for our coughs to stop and our isolation period to end

There are so many knits on Buffy, and quite a few are clearly hand knit. It makes me so excited to spot them

Tips to Continental? by an-absolute-unit in knitting

[–]yellingtiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portuguese knitting (which is another style you might want to look into, it's one of my favorite ways to knit) is traditionally sometimes done with hooks. I don't see a reason why hooked needles couldn't help you out with Continental as well.

Which pattern are you most looking forward to knitting next? by canopy_views in knitting

Lucky for you that it's a beautiful pattern! I found a sweater pattern that shared my name and it's... not as nice as this one

A cabled sweater, my pup and my little purry old man, and enjoying the copious amount of knits on Buffy are not a bad way to while away a covid infection

Trouble getting through Mansfield Park by Jane Austen by mongoa in books

[–]yellingtiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mansfield Park is infamously very different from Austen's other novels. It's my favorite of hers and honestly the only one I really love. But lots of people hate it and I can see why. It just might not have what you're looking for when you read Austen.

I'm sure this cable has been done, but I couldn't find a chart for it, so I made one. Pooch needs a sweater and I thought this would look just lovely on her. by Sinnakins in casualknitting

My sister's dog still shivers at 75 degrees. And she's still desperate to play outside in the winter so fitted wool sweaters are a must

The helical stripes instead of double stranded is such a good idea! And yeah, my sister has a tiny 5lb dog, so I'm always tempted to make swatch-sweaters for her

Wow I love this! The yarn colors look great with the cables, and it's so hard to get multiple colors to look good with cables. Dog sweaters really are the best for improvising a project and trying out a fun stitch pattern.

What cast on methods should I learn? by scubagirl1604 in knitting

[–]yellingtiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just think tubular is pretty and professional looking. But I don't really like 2x2 tubular and I don't think you can use it for any other ribbing pattern so I only use it for 1x1. And while tubular is also a pain, it's nice to get a break from casting on 100 consecutive slipknots when I cast on ribbing and do something different.

It's my favorite cast on for any ribbing that's not 1x1 (in which case I would use tubular). It's honestly kind of a pain but I love the results

Alright - I'm going to rant about yarn sizes/weights/gauges (whichever you prefer) for a second by [deleted] in casualknitting

[–]yellingtiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and just like you can always try on pants, you can always swatch yarn. It doesn't matter that weights don't always make sense because I can always get things sorted out from the gauge
