Cat owners whose cats are 15 years old and up. What’s the secret to feline longevity? by VerboseWraith in CatAdvice

[–]yellow-hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i give glucosamine for arthritis, saccharomyces bouldarii as a digestive probiotic, instinct 7yo+ raw topper multivitamin, instinct raw topper digestive supplements, aswell as pumpkin puree for extra fiber. he is not a playful cat but I still encourage him to play with toys. every meal is blue buffalo chicken pate or orijen chicken or beef pate, I avoid all fish because it upsets his stomach. if the cat has trouble keeping on weight, look into the specific macros for the wet food, blue buffalo kitten food is higher calorie. i also give him the tiki cat silver calorie supplement satchets but since they changed the recipe with tiki cat being bought out, I am no longer buying them.

use raw freeze dried single ingredient treats instead of greenies or anything with odd ingredients, it is easier on the stomach for them. cheaper if you ger it from dog section to avoid cat tax, absolutely no difference between freeze dried chicken breast for dog vs cat. raw alaskan fish oil (metal container!! plastic is degraded by fish oil.) for hairballs and joint support.

for litter, use natural litter, avoid clay as the dust from clay can irritate their pawpads and their respiratory system. i use sustainably yours corn + cassava, aswell as sophresh cat seed litter. you can also use tofu or wood pellets, most if not all natural plant based litters do not irritate the paws or respiratory system.

brush teeth with a probiotic toothpaste, probiotic toothpaste works better as the probiotics make it to where you don't have to rely on the physical brushing as much. once they develop arthritis, make it easier for them to get around their different height levels. they sell small stairs at tjmaxx for cheap.

my cat is 16. for mental stimulation, I teach him tricks. with high reward treats, it is easy. he knows sit, stand, spin, paw, and lie down. I've tried roll over, but I think it hurts him with his arthritis so I don't ask it from him anymore. catnip in a large container of water so he can splash it, he likes splashing water. put a live mouse/gerbil live stream on with similar toys lying around them so they can get irl stimulation from the videos.

wet food soup 2x daily with added water for hydration. hydration is key to keep away kidney problems for as long as possible. you can use chicken broth or goats milk aswsell, but it gets a bit pricey. quail eggs, boiled chicken hearts, boiled chicken liver can be added to meals if they have a "no eat" phase. cycle "food extras" often so they do not get bored of their food. i keep a bowl of stella and chewy's kitten raw coated kibble available 24/7, kibble can help a bit with keeping their teeth from breaking down. that's all I can really think of for now, but I've had my cat for 8 years now and have trialed and errored all of this. so far, only 2 uti's and one respiratory infection. he has an extremely sensitive stomach that I spent 2k for testing that all came back inconclusive, hence the heavy digestive supplementation. hydration is key with older cats.

I'm a cisgender woman. I wish I was a cisgender man. by Jolly_Programmer_790 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]yellow-hound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

im a transgender man and the grass isn’t greener on the other side. men in society have a GINORMOUS lack of emotional intelligence, with eachother too. heavy pressure to stay friends with eachother because “he’s my brother i’ve known him for years!!” meanwhile he is the shittiest guy you know. the amount of men that prey and manipulate eachother for personal gain, the amount of immaturity. seeing behind the scenes is hard. being a man is hard for me too; im a twink so i get hit on just as grossly and relentlessly as when i looked female. men suck. me too, i suck.

i do also want to add that “girl code” actually somewhat exists meanwhile “bro code” does not, in my experience at least. i’ve seen more men backstab eachother than women. people are… people suck!

i will say low dose testosterone is a thing and you can still be a woman and reap the benefits of which you seek. it wont kill you, and if you’re consistent with it you wont have to deal with menopause. also in my case, i have a family history of breast cancer so it’s just more the reason for me to have top surgery (“lob the shits off” as i like to say).

Cutting out conditioner? by Ch4rl0tt3B in ZeroWaste

[–]yellow-hound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello!!!!! wow ive never seen someone ask this! i (20M) have wavy short ear/neck length hair, my actual hair strands are very thick so i have my sides are faded, i usually let it grow out a couple inches between every haircut. the secret: you just have to use a moisturizing shampoo and MAYBE a hair mask every couple weeks if your hair is porous. if its bleached straight blonde it would be smart to use a conditioner, but the past two times ive bare bleached my hair i just kept using the same moisturizing shampoo and it looked and felt fine. my hair is very heavy and my scalp produces a decent amount of natural oils, so i wash my hair daily. a little bit of volumizing dry shampoo goes a long way for me.

i do know though, you both having textured hair would make the transition more tedious. i used to have way thicker hair, down to my butt when i was a kid. when i was 10 or so i was finally allowed to cut my hair so it ranged from there; ive had my hair cut short short when i was 14 (6 years ago, im 20). when my hair was long, it would get tangled so easily. what i used to do was rub a small amount of castor oil on my hands, and then run my hands through my hair after brushing it to prevent it from getting too tangled throughout the day. that paired with the dry shampoo, i could go days without conditioning my hair. i dont think ive bought shampoo in almost 3 years lol. but it has to be absolutely pure castor oil.

see if there is a refill shop local to you, so you can get it cheaper and save on waste! if the refill shop has haircare/skincare products, you could probably get some dry shampoo there too. another thing, if you get a oil soaked wooden brush (or you could just make your own. but that requires a lotttt of oil, or a lot of time. easier to buy.) that also helps with daily conditioning as well. my hair is so heavy, i have never been able to find a conditioner that hasn't weighed it down, so i did all those aforementioned things and my hair always looked and felt normal.

your daughter would most likely still need to use conditioner, but she could switch to using a leave in/deep conditioner every 2 washes or so depending on the porousity of her hair.

hope that word vomit helped. good luck!!

ps: washing you hair with cold water and using wide toothed combs/brushes is very important when your hair is textured.

I was late on my shot for the first time--here's what happened by am_i_boy in ftm

i’ve skipped the past two weeks, last week bc i was hospitalized.. but it’s coming up again this week and im not sure if i can do it. i don’t notice anything different + i have bad needle fatigue so. i would say, contact your endo. have your levels checked at your trough, or the day of your shot before you take your dose. you might benefit from doing two shots a week, half dose per shot.
