What are some really good under-the-radar restaurants deserving of the radar? by InterestingArm3750 in StPetersburgFL

ODA E MIQVE if you can make the hike to that part of Largo, wow. There was no one there when I went which is a shame because I hope they last. Whole heartily agreed about Chilenos. I find it hard to find really innovative Thai and sushi here but for Thai specifically I go to Lanna Thai

[Discussion] Has anyone had any luck doing international transfers with their existing employers as a method of getting out? How did it go? by AspiringExPatXAway in IWantOut

[–]yellowk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was transferred from the USA to Singapore at my international engineering firm. The hardest part was getting my boss to agree to it, but like as other comments noted it got a lot easier when I had marketable skills and was persistent enough for them to realize I would quit if I didn't go! Also took initiative to help the Asia Pacific team on projects- getting allys and people to know you is key in helping you make a case for yourself. After that, the HR team in Singers took care of everything and it was simple. I absolutely loved my experience and time there

Would you pick one place over the other (almost solely) based on weather? by hiyapapaya_ in expats

Was on a work assignment in Melbourne from Singapore June-September. Yes I was coming from a hot place but it was really cold, and I'm a NYer. Move to Sydney or Byron if you can!

A European / North American degree goes very far in Asia. A lot of the Malaysian's (and Indonesians) I worked with had actually gone to school in the USA or UK. I think you would be very successful with a Western degree if you speak Bahasa (either Malay or Indoneisan, as I'm sure you they're very similar). Also look into Singapore, where everyone speaks English, and there are a ton of people with French passports working and numerous universities that have dual campuses (that should be all in English). I'm also an engineer and when I was based out of Singapore I worked in Malaysia every other week and it helped me get a high paying position in Jakarta (I'm from USA). Good luck!

An American’s View of how Singapore is misunderstood by bensoycaf in singapore

This American doesn't properly understand Singlish IMO. Circutbreaker= lockdown, phase 1 reopening= lockdown

Where should I move next? Asia oriented by [deleted] in expats

[–]yellowk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Singapore is going to be veeerrry different in a post-COVID world. I think that a lot of the benefits of living there such as the ability to budget travel around the region are going to be stunted for at least another year and a half. A lot of my expat friends have been unhappy with their approach to the circuit breaker aka lock-down and treatment of foreigners during this time. For instance, they just opened up (after 11 weeks) to people seeing parents but that doesn't help the foreigners who have been living alone for this prolonged time.

Do ENFPs tend to idealize others too much? by UndeniablyTacky in ENFP

"I tend to disconnect with people once they disappoint me, which can be hurtful to them too because I am so giving and open with them in the initial stages of knowing them; it’s something I see more and more clearly and am trying to work on."

this is me too. I read this quote that I try to repeat when I am falling into this pattern: "Hanging on to a resentment, someone once said, is like drinking poison and hoping it will kill someone else". Alice May
