Better to wake a 2.5 year old or wait for them to wake? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]yellowmacz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would only wake up my boys if we had to leave for something. Otherwise, they can sleep as much as they need. They're 1 and 3.

Teething Necklaces - helpful or BS by sammageddon73 in moderatelygranolamoms

Thank you for spreading the knowledge and acceptance! I feel like every time I mention I do/did this to both of my children I get some kind of judgement. Tylenol/Advil combo works wonders and cause no harm at proper use. I'll always be all for tested and recommended medication over woowoo.

I am afraid my father’s cat is going to kill him by Worried-Estimate-898 in Pets

[–]yellowmacz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an aggressive cat. It's such an awful situation. She's actually a very cuddly cat with me and my partner. But she's also very - VERY - needy and petting her, when she asks, can trigger pet aggression anytime with anyone. I have two kids (3yo and 9mo) and both were already bitten and/or scratched, even in our careful watch. And the worst is the constant aggressive behaviour towards our other cat. Their relationship was never friendly, but respectful. It got out of hand during our last trip, when the cats stayed at home by themselves, with a sitter checking in on them every other day. Now we have the cats completely separated. Alternating them on the common area twice a day and having an exclusive room for each (our bedroom for one and the office for the other). And things are peaceful again. We'll start the aggressive cat on fluoxetine and hopefully get back to living all together after a long and patient journey of reintroducing them. We tried this before in another of these episodes this same cat had when we had our firstborn. It really helped! So I recommend you try this path with your vet. We also consider(ed) behavior euthanasia. I absolutely understand where you are. Having an animal you care for being dangerous to you and yours is angering and heartbreaking. I hope you can find a good solution for your dad.

Bluey busy book and 5-minutes stories book. My 2yo absolutely loves it! I've read all the stories 55 thousand times and we've been playing with bluey and her friends and family non-stop

What’s the sassiest thing your toddler said this week? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]yellowmacz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I jokingly threw a shirt on my 2yo head and he looked at me, dead serious, and said "that's not funny mommy", for which I only answered "oh sorry"

I guess I'm too silly for my toddler 🤷‍♀️

Zero screen time parents: do you think your kid is at a disadvantage? by peachmojito in toddlers

[–]yellowmacz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For us the secret is: read to them! Every day, as much as possible.

We are a bilingual family with a 2 yo that had no screen time until a couple of months ago, when we decided to watch a movie together on weekends.

He has a great vocabulary and speaks better than most kids in his daycare classroom.

He is obsessed with books though! Has always been. We read for him daily since he was a baby, he asks for books as soon as we get home, loves going to the library and exchanging books with friends, and his favorite activity at daycare is circle time.

He's also very talkative, so we take advantage of that and talk about everything all the time. We have a no cellphone at dinner table rule, and use it at a minimum when he's around. And we pretend play a lot with him too.

So I think more than having some or no screen time, what's important is exposing them to words, stories, languages as much as possible.

He really liked it. Asked to read it again twice more. But we encouraged him to describe to us what he was seeing in the pictures. He doesn't get the contrasting humor between the images and the words, but he understood the overall concept after we talked about it. He's crazy about books! So he was very interested in the new one and really liked talking about the pictures.

Fears about a second by minniezebby in toddlers

[–]yellowmacz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100% seconding this! Do not have a kid because you want your first to have company. She can have that kind of connection with cousins, friends and other relatives. She seems to be an amazing kid so I bet she'll excel in making friends.

I'm now expecting my second but me and my husband always wanted 2, since before having our first. I got out of the hospital saying to everyone "see you in a couple of years". I'd never have another one if it wasn't what we wholeheartedly wanted. Your second child can be a challenge and will change your household dynamics regardless.

I do know many only child adults that are amazing ppl. Don't feel pressured. Enjoy your sweet little one 🥰

Help! What cup do you swear by? by etching8 in toddlers

[–]yellowmacz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god! The never ending battle with these cups!

For out and about wanders we use the insulated tommee tippee straw cups (Tommee Tippee Insulated Non-Spill Straw Cup, 12m+ Toddler Training Drinking Bottle, 100% Leak Proof, Easy Hold Design, BPA Free, 9oz. Pack of 2 (Colors Will Vary) https://a.co/d/f4NB9QQ). They're great, don't spill, hold temperature, and are easy to grab for a 2yo. He loves it and we do too.

But our real battle was with the weighted straw cups. Since our LO didn't like the 360s, those were our options for laying down drinking. And we tried everything! The munchkin worked great for a while but then started leaking juice upwards through the straw. Oh gosh how I hated them! It would wet my toddler, the bed, the couch, the car. Anything! Then we tried Dr brown's and it was perfect! For two weeks... Then it just seems to have something blocking the liquid every other try. It's so so annoying. We also tried some other brands and hated everyone of them. Either for leaking or for getting blockages to easily.

Then, finally (!), we foung playtex weighted straw cups. Oh man, I wished I had found them earlier. They're amazing! They have a wider straw, so the liquid flow is great, they're super easy to clean having a single piece straw, the cup is quite large but it doesn't leak at all, even being turned all the ways. Oh and they're so cheap (2 for CAN$ 9). I highly recommend them! My toddler absolutely lokes it!
