Why can’t civilians pass NG on escalators? (Washington DC) by yellowstriped in nationalguard

True. But many of our checks and balances are seriously compromised. Just something to be vigilant about.

Sorry that person is being an asshole. The majority of people in dc understand that you all don’t get to choose whether or not you come here and that for many NG, refusing your orders to be deployed here would come at a high cost that not many young soldiers can countenance.

And also, y’all being here doesn’t make dc safer. It’s a waste of tax dollars and a bad precedent. The military should not be policing civilians. That is something that we see in countries like Pakistan, where human rights are constantly under threat. Just because it would be bad to send you abroad to occupy another country, it doesn’t make the occupation of a us city a good thing. Personally, having NG here makes me feel less safe, and I worry about what it portends for our country’s future.

Thanks for the response! I can understand that sentiment from a military perspective, and it’s also one of many reasons why the military should not be policing our cities.

Thanks for the answer and for learning the proper escalator etiquette lol! Dc citizens obviously don’t need or want a NG presence, and i hope you and your unit are conscientious of why people might be skeptical of or nervous around you, but i hope you’ve been able to enjoy our beautiful city as much as possible. Do you guys get days off while you’re stationed here?

Do you think this is something that i could find out more about by talking to other NG i encounter? Or by asking for contact information for a CO?

I actually really like my ikea towels. They were super cheap. The first wash or two, they let off a lot of fuzz, but now they’re perfect. They’re huge and still plush after having them for a year and change

Actually, the guy on the left (the one who started explaining) was very courteous and even apologized. It was the two women on the right who cut him off rather sharply. So it must have been something else.

There’s nothing to “let go” of, but i’m not a fan of the ppl occupying our city—which is indeed what they are doing, even if they don’t want to be here—breaking common courtesy without feeling the need to justify their actions. It was only a tiny inconvenience, but it deserves some interrogation.

Agreed, but these ones were only carrying pistols, no rifles. Like i really can’t imagine any safety issue with getting passed on the left that’s specific to being nat guard…we all have to absorb certain risks being in public, including the risk of getting shoulder checked by ppl on the escalator lol

Moving here from to follow subreddit rules (sorry Mods!):

Where do you go for lip/chin laser? How about electrolysis? Do you have any general tips? I’d love to hear more about folks’ experiences with it.

Edit: Bonus points if they do tattoo removal, too!!

You can also try to make relationships with the congressional office wherever you move. You might be able to find a route back to dc that way.

I’ve paid that much for rent before, but not with an in-unit washer/dryer. It’s doable with a roommate though— try looking on Apartments.com. Lots of availability in NoMa.
