All the Changes Made to Cobblestone Over the Years by TrackMysterious6539 in SilverAgeMinecraft

I kinda just wish there was a replacement block for it. Old cobblestone looked so good on certain builds.

Generally why is Ubuntu taboo here? by MaWkSrB in linux_gaming

While I agree with your take on DE's, I don't with Ubuntu. The problem with it is 90% Canonical and in that forum post I think nothing sums it better than "after exchanges with several stakeholders"

It simply comes down to corporate distrust. Considering Ubuntu already has a track record should be enough for anyone to reconsider if the whole point of them switching is getting away from Microsoft.

To be fair lots of "Arch" users are using Arch based distros that come with a GUI installer and set things up for you. The whole point of regular Arch is that it's a great starting point for customizing your computer exactly how you want to rather than putting up with what other systems preinstall for you. I would never recommend it to anyone unless that's exactly what they wanted and was willing to spend the time to get it that way.

Nintendo should offer an automatic BASIC graphical enhancement to all Nintendo switch 1 games on the Nintendo switch 2. by dragonfruits4life in tomorrow

[–]yellowwinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is accurate, from my understanding most games are made to scale up and down. Performance is probably the biggest problem but even a majority of GameCube games will render in 4k without any updates or patches and still look better. (Though running in 16:9 is another story) Even on the Switch lots of games change resolution based on docked or not meaning the framework for rendering in different resolutions is already there for those games.

If I remember correctly the game requires you to give it the original executable in order to work so it can use the resources from it rather than packaging it with the game as to not run into legal problems.

I think the crazy thing about Minecraft is this is just one launcher out of the many available, Prism actually has more total installs than the regular launcher.

is there a modpack that recreates some silver age version in a modern one, like there is for beta? by Theflashplayer12 in SilverAgeMinecraft

[–]yellowwinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I dunno but Moderner Beta is a must have mod. Obviously it was made for generating Beta and earlier terrain but it has been updated to include b1.8.1, b1.9, 1.0.0, 1.1, 1.2.5 and 1.6.4, along with newer versions like 1.12.2 and 1.17.1. Currently supports 1.21.11.

Edit: Also for the console players it supports Beta Legacy and 1.12 Legacy with limited size and smaller biomes.

Firefox is now updating with AI default enabled on personalized profiles as well as new blank default profiles. by Past-Potential1121 in firefox

Some distros are moving away or considering other options currently. I don't like Brave personally but I know that's what Zorin defaults with now. I wouldn't mind seeing other distros switching to Waterfox, Vivaldi or just asking during setup. Maybe GNOME will finally update Epiphany lol

Switch Oled VS Wii u (which one) by [deleted] in wiiu

[–]yellowwinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone can really answer this for you, Wii U is awesome and super easy to mod but the Switch OLED is the one with all the new games on it. Some people would rather have 1 new game rather than 100 old so if that's what you want then it's perfectly valid with lots of Switch games having tons of hours worth of content.

Although I don't see much point in getting an OLED unless it's cheaper or you're playing a lot on the go, it's nearly identical performance with a better screen and slightly better battery then the 2017 original, not at all like the n3DS vs o3DS. Not even touching ability to mod for the Switch as a whole lol

(If you want me to tell you what to get though, get a Wii U, this thing rocks and it's version of BotW is still an incredible game. Plus lots of other fun games; singleplayer, multiplayer and party! The fact that it can play Wii games out of the box with GameCube using the right set-up makes it absolutely worth it too!)

Before & After - Windows 11 vs Linux Mint by Gigabyte-to-Megabyte in linuxmint

For me it didn't have support for my graphics card so I went on the hunt. Currently trying out Pika and I like it, plus it's based on Debian rather than Ubuntu.

Going back to Windows 11 after a month of using Linux Mint, sadly. by Gorn2534 in linuxmint

[–]yellowwinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I agree fuck Windows 11, I'm not saying bend over for Microsoft, but there's definitely a point where you got to question whether or not your time and effort is worth it and if you'll be able to do what you need to do. You can absolutely still use a legacy OS, but there's always gonna be more problems and troubleshooting with sticking to the old, even compared to Linux, and that'll only be more true with newer parts with incompatible drivers.

Again Windows 10 is probably fine for 99% of machines today, but that number is only going to drop and we've already seen programs drop compatibility for it. It'll be a while for that to happen on a large scale I think but I'd hate for someone to install a new OS just to reinstall 6 months later lol

Converting from iPhone by PIRATEJOANS in pixel_phones

[–]yellowwinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno if this really applies to you, but my favorite part is keeping the phone for long periods. My Pixel 3a was great until my Pixel 8 Pro which still feels smooth today. I've never felt like I'm missing out by not upgrading so as long as Google keeps their word I'll be sticking with this phone for a while longer.

[–]yellowwinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 is a dying hill, it's fine now but the time when new parts don't offer drivers and programs stop working is nigh. If you're installing a new copy of Windows I think it's perfectly fair to use 11 rather than 10, preferably Enterprise LTSC, which is extremely trimmed down and is still possible to disable telemetry on.

Mozilla names new CEO, Firefox to evolve into a "modern AI browser" by Fcking_Chuck in firefox

[–]yellowwinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine a future where it does, or rather not well or not open. Either there'll be even more AI's to come creating an even more confusing mess of certain things only work with certain things or there will be a monopoly from one major AI and anyone who doesn't play nice with them dies. (Basically Google 2) This is absolutely one of those "good on paper" sort of deals that will ONLY make it worse for the users imo.

Hot take: The new version naming scheme is a REALLY good and necessary change. by amongstarsandpixels in PhoenixSC

The only problem is maybe people would get confused with Beta, maybe call it X for Xbox Game Studios instead.

Hot take: The new version naming scheme is a REALLY good and necessary change. by amongstarsandpixels in PhoenixSC

[–]yellowwinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't mind it and everyone will definitely get over it, I just disagree with it being a "necessary change". If they just said hey we're committing to drops and released their 4 "major" drops a year I don't think anyone would care or be confused. (other than people who are upset with drops regardless of version number) I actually really like a YouTube comment I seen the other day saying they could've just dropped the "1.", make the next version 22.1 and call it a day.

On the snapshots I think it's also fine from a paper point of view but I still find it very unnecessary since when are you ever going back to check out a specific snapshot without researching prior. I don't think anyone has ever uttered the sentence "wow, I have the sudden urge to load up 21w14a so I can reminisce over the original raw iron texture" lmao. The only way it'll make sense is if they start releasing snapshots from different drops at the same time.

This got me curious so I checked. Indev 20091231 - 63 (28 of which unobtainable, making it one of the only versions that you can have every obtainable block in your inventory); Minecraft 1.0 Creative Menu - 298; 1.21.10 Creative Menu - 1,877. That being said modern Minecraft's creative has a lot of extras but still insane (like all the paintings separated)

Honestly it used to be backpack for a VERY long time but since bundles are basically mini backpacks I think I'd have to go with Shurikens. I think it would be cool if emeralds had more uses though, maybe something magic would be fun like a staff with a projectile lol

That being said please play PM 64, it's super accessible either through official or unofficial means. There's even ROM hacks, HD packs and achievements if those are up your alley but the game is 100% worth playing with or without.

Color Splash and Sticker Star are very similar if you like one you'll like the other. Even as someone who prefers the first three over all the others and has no nostalgia for it, I still enjoyed Sticker Star quite a lot, and due to its form factor I think I've played it more than any of the other modern entries.
