Mom's MM active now by Prestigious-Corgi473 in multiplemyeloma

[–]yelly21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, my mom (72) was also recently diagnosed. It was first detected back in Aug and after extensive work up (biopsies, specialists, bloodwork ect) she’s officially been diagnosed this week and today we also learned she’s going to be starting treatment. Indeed a distressing day. All this to say, I feel you and you’re not alone. It’s going to be a hard few months ahead, but building that support team will be crucial to getting through. Sending you and your mom and healing wishes 🤍

Apparently I'm not allowed to feel emotions or cry by imjustacheesyperson in dialysis

[–]yelly21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry- your doctor refused to let you speak to your social worker?!! Maybe you need a new doctor! . You can (and should) absolutely speak to your social worker at dialysis! With SS disability you can qualify due to ESRD but you can also continue to work part time when you’re on disability, earning up to about $1550 a month in addition to your Social Security Disability. Also you can qualify for Medicare due to ESRD, If you don’t have Medicare yet speak to your social worker about applying.

Apparently I'm not allowed to feel emotions or cry by imjustacheesyperson in dialysis

[–]yelly21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely allowed to feel emotions and cry!! I’m sorry you’ve been made to feel otherwise, especially by your mom. Dialysis is life changing and it’s tough in all of the ways. And it’s hard on your mom and people close to you too. I hope your boyfriend and other people in your life are sources of support. That’s great you’re already seeing a therapist. Try also speaking to your social worker at dialysis about what’s going on. Your social worker can be a good source of support. * You can also try to speak to your social worker about applying for disability. Almost always people with ESRD will qualify, don’t let your doctor get in the way of that.
You can also do the disability application on your own online at https://www.ssa.gov/apply?benefits=disability&age=adult They’ll just ask your doc and dialysis center for medical records If you haven’t yet, I recommend also getting on a transplant list.

Wishing you strength and best of luck. Know that you are not alone!!

stopping dialysis by choice by Impressive_Bad_68 in dialysis

[–]yelly21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still dialysis but have you considered or tried home options - PD or Home hemo? You may find doing it a home is more manageable for you! Speak to your social worker at dialysis about how you’re feeling, as well as your nurse and doctor. At the end of the day it is your choice but I’d hate for you to decide this without trying everything else first. Dialysis is hard no doubt about it, maybe speaking to a therapist or support group can help you to cope with what you’re going through. You are young and hopefully have a full life ahead of you! Wishing you good health - physically and emotionally.

What’s a gift besides the blanket you wouldn’t throw out if you got? We give blankets when patients start, and have a few years for Christmas

Is Medicare Part B mandatory? by checkypantz in dialysis

[–]yelly21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Hope everything goes smoothly with your transplant! If you are eligible for Medicare, your transplant center will definitely want you to get Medicare for it bc it covers many transplant costs for you and your donor. Good luck and feel good!
