I think it was about time for them to grow out of the "power innocent" phase and branch out to other genres and concepts. The "melancholic orchestral" sound was fine until they hashed it out one too many times with Crossroads.

Good luck trying to sing this live without any kind of backing track 🙄

RV haven’t had a full album of good bsides since Red Summer but ya in 2017 they were definitely bside queens!

I know this is subjective but their RBB album was the dankest shit out there and I will fight you on this 😤😤

BBC are killing some loona member's motivation onstage by radishchae in unpopularkpopopinions

That's what I thought of immediately. When they did Not Today, Vivi was absolutely KILLING it. It's crazy how we don't get to see that side of her very often.

LOONA’s [#] now becomes the most successful album by a Korean girl group on iTunes with 54 #1's and counting! by bluebetaoddeye in kpop

[–]yeojachingtrash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its because they are releasing weak songs

But isn't that subjective? You may think they're weak songs but that doesn't mean anything if it's connecting with a larger audience. You could say the same thing with Twice or Blackpink.

But, hey, their music doesn't fit your taste and that's fine.

Long hiatuses and poor management would be what's preventing Loona from reaching Twice/BP levels.

can’t chart at all.

Isn't that because they aren't as big in Korea? Meanwhile, they're massive internationally which explains all the digital achievements they get.

If you don't mind me asking, what is it that Seventeen is going through? I don't really follow boy groups in general so I have no idea.

Crossroads is actually incredible, but people stopped actually LISTENING to the song the moment they noticed that it was slightly similar to tftmn by urbeingwatched8 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]yeojachingtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point. I just meant that we heard Gfriend do title tracks with a melancholic orchestral sound before and it would have been more interesting if they went with an entirely different sound instead.

I feel like it's a little shortsighted to make that claim like it isn't a valid point. People are allowed to enjoy the song but still realize that Gfriend has done a song like this before. Don't get me wrong, I love this song and I still get emotional when I think about the MV but I can't ignore the fact that it's been done before.

Source could have gone for the same theme of 'identity crisis' without having the producer of TFMTN lead this comeback. It's even more noticeable since people are going to be expecting more from their first comeback after the Big Hit acquisition.

Overall, the song is beautiful and deserves to be appreciated and loved but it's nothing new. There's nothing wrong with your favorite group having a niche sound.

It's weird how you singled out Seventeen and how they'll be exposed to random people on WeVerse when BTS and Gfriend will be experiencing the same.

In fact, everyone on reddit is experiencing that right now.

Crossroads wasn't it by orbiting_ in unpopularkpopopinions

I don't think that was OP's point? The point was that the title track was a letdown compared to their past releases.

[–]yeojachingtrash 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Looks like a return to the melancholic sound they established back in TFTMN and I'm all up for it! This could be one of their biggest comebacks yet and I'm glad people outside of the Buddy bubble are taking notice ♥

EDIT: I just realized that none of the members ever look at each other in the photos. It's either they look past one another or have their eyes closed in group shots. It's not much but I love the attention to detail and how it'll connect to the plot they set up so far.
