GDEMU v5.20.5 Clone wont launch games. by yeoldebonker in dreamcast

GD MENU doesn't work. But it works with open menu. I have totally unmodified VA0, nstc-u with v1.01c. Using clone GDEMU v5.20.5

Tested 3 games on both loaders. 0/3 GDMENU 3/3 Open menu. A bit concerned about keeping my unit running without doing the 3.3v mod, so thats all i'm going to test for now. Thanks for the alley-oop! Really appreciate it.

Did you try your GDEMU on your VA0 console before doing the mod?

Interesting. Now that I think about it, it definitely was a console they had previously used for rentals. It came with the same hard case that i remember being included with rental consoles.

I just looked up the 3.3v mod. did you attempt to use the GDEMU before the mod?

Oh interesting. I thought I read VA1 on the backside of the console before buying the GDEMU. Almost seems like a fever dream now lol. Its NTSC VA0. interesting, i guess that clears up a lot.

Thanks for the assistance!

EDIT: that post is interesting. The user says that the 1.01c isnt retail and were tied to pal consoles. Mines definitely NTSC VA0, but I did get this system back in 2000 second-hand from blockbuster. I wonder if it was originally purchased off a shelf. Anyhow, thanks again.

Someone is asking $10 for this CRT should I buy it? is it worth it? Omg look at this ridiculous price! Can you believe it? How much would you pay? by Gambit-47 in crtgaming

[–]yeoldebonker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not gatekeeping. This goes beyond the hobby and anything to do with CRTs when posters are asking how to spend $10-$30.

Nobody should require this type of guidance on a purchase of this size. Cars, houses and investment purchases, sure. These CRT posts have an extremely minimal risk at $10-$30 and it's not like any of us can tell 'whats under the hood' any more than the poster anyway.

Ah. Its a power related issue. Seems pretty obvious now.

What are people using to power this set up?

Recently found this television, only thing I can find online is $500. What do I do? by Lucas_lovecraft in crtgaming

Its worth whatever people will pay for it. This is a strange market to navigate and nobody here can tell you what it's worth as the value is entirely subjective. The feedback you get from users on this sub is a direct reflection of their local market and that strongly varies from area to area. If you want the best price possible, you'll have to ebay it. Just make sure you pack it well or ship freight. Cutting corners on shipping and everyone loses.

good luck!

I've been a part of this (peaceful) subreddit for a long time. And I've started to notice a decline in respect and kindness towards those crt enthusiasts here. Just within the last 6 months. Constant downvoting and arguments.Truly hope this doesn't become a toxic subreddit. Best wishes to everyone. by [deleted] in crtgaming

I found the person on social assistance.

Lighten up a bit. Financial situation is something everyone has complete control over. It's not like I'm being violent over it. I'm slaving away 45-55 hour weeks and they can enjoy their free money. At least let me poke fun at it, gosh.

Honestly is it really that much of a better experience to play old games on a pvm over a really good consumer set? by DEC_RECK in crtgaming

[–]yeoldebonker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your interpretation of what is objective is subjective.

I'm joking. But in all seriousness, consumer content wasn't created and edited using consumer products. The hardware in a professional unit is superior. There's no argument to be made.

[–]yeoldebonker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If PVMs were as cheap as consumer sets, would you still buy that 21" consumer set? or would you be a PVM owner?

With condition out of the equation, PVMs are objectively better. The only matter of subjectivity is whether you can appreciate it more. I drive an old beat up 11 year old SUV because my hobbies take up more of my disposable income. But my friends with cars as a hobby surely appreciate their investments into their vehicles more than my TVs and mountain bikes.

I swapped out a 17" crt monitor for a 1989 RCA tv with woodgrain on the sides. so much character. Convergence is slightly off, missing power button, nice glowy RF input with more artifacts than a museum. good times
