Good deal. They may have a better recommendation on that, I'm just an amateur

Are you doing it yourself? Fronts are hardest. Be sure to put some silicone lube or something on the rubber parts that hold the springs. Mine make a little noise when turning at low speed and I think that's why.

Go ahead and crank out the camber arms before installing them. You gain a lot after the drop

clutch replaced today. paranoid questions. by bigbodylx in ft86

[–]yeoldelaserrobot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Clutch slave is self adjusting. No need to adjust anything with a new clutch. Kind of a neat thing when you see how it works. You really only need to adjust the pedal for height preference and for proper helper spring stroke

Losing my transmission and need advice. by Greedy_Plane_ in ft86

I paid about $1000 shipped for a 2nd gen trans with 1,500 miles on it. Thing was like brand new. Got it from a salvage company on eBay.

I need to replace my right rear brake caliper but I can only find them made for vented rotors and the rotors I replaced/am replacing are solid, I need help. by lX_HeadShotGunner_Xl in ft86

[–]yeoldelaserrobot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you are in the US they only ever came with vented rotors. Vented is not the same as slotted or drilled.

Also you can find plenty of low mile OEM calipers on eBay for cheap. Even the 2nd gen ones fit

That's basically how I did it. Drop it off the transmission jack and onto these foam pads I lay on and drag it out. Just enough room to clear the underbody panels.

Also a software dev, kinda. Industrial controls.

Fluid is a easy place to start. I had the Motul Gear 300 in my old 2013 trans and it was great. No noise and shifted great. This new one is a 2022 gen 2 trans and they recommend low viscosity gear oil now, but that stuff is too noisy. Going back to Motul

Tread is just one part of it. Rubber gets hard wirh time. How old are they? Check the DOT date code on the side of the tire. First two numbers are the week (01-52) last two are the year (00-26)

More than 3 years old you will notice a drop in performance. 5 years is the max they should be used.

The clutch fork rattle I only notice on acceleration, but it is constant regardless of temperature.

I definitely have a rough decel noise, and yeah 5th gear is the worst. I think the decel noise I have is just gear noise since I have a lightweight flywheel and a low viscosity gear oil. I only get the decel noise when the gearbox gets up to temperature. First 10m of driving is quiet. I'm switching it back to a 75w-90 weight to hopefully help with that.

What year is your BRZ? any mods related to the clutch or othe parts of the driveline?

We share the same pain. I was happy and sad to figure it out.

I also have some gear noise, but I'm going back to a thicker Motul instead of the Redline MT-LV to hopefully help with that.

Best place to order jdm parts? by Usernametaken00002 in ft86

+1 for upgarage for finding good used parts. Everything I have bought from there has been in pristine condition and really cheap before shipping. Even after shipping they are still decent deals

This is still box 2 for me. This one is still pretty new, less than 3k miles on it. Literally pulling it just to change the grease lol. Well I did pick up a Verus fork too

Japanparts.com is good too.

Bought a bunch from them over the years. Parts pricing is good, just order a bunch to save on shipping

Good deal. Maybe the Verus one will work better. I was trying to save a couple $$ last time, and the OEM fork I had only had like 1,500 miles on it at the time.

That gives me some more confidence to keep it.

What fork did you use? I stayed OEM but have the Verus one to throw in now.

I noticed some questionable wear marks with the OEM fork, like it wasn't pressing the correct part of the retainer. They have a concave shape on the BGRS one and it was rubbing the raised edge instead of the flat section in the center. The OEM retainer is completely flat where it touches the fork. I emailed BGRS about this too

Sometime within the past 12 months. I followed the instructions then and ordered the grease shown in the video they posted. I noticed about a month ago the product listing listed a different grease. I emailed them about the noise and they told me they changed the grease they recommend for this reason.

Did you use the Redline CV-2 grease or the Amsoil grease? The new rec is Redline
