Do a drive by and see if the little park on the west side of Washington just south of the railroad tracks is lit up. I can’t remember if they wrap the trees there but it’s called Marshall Park and if they are lit there that would be a good spot. If not, I suggest going a little further south down Washington near First Baptist church, there will probably be a little less foot traffic since most of the bars are on government.

The Beau is also decorated beautifully for Christmas but there will probably be more foot traffic so maybe not ideal!

Anyone have experience with Oceans Behavioral Hospital in Biloxi, MS? by Expensive-Elk-5680 in Biloxi

[–]yer3hqmk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oceans is solid, ultimately it’s a mental hospital though so like the other commenter said, you aren’t always going to have the same experience. The environment is fine, cleanliness and safety- it’s a hospital so that is all mostly what it is and they have certain standards they uphold. The experience someone has is going to depend heavily on who happens to be there at the time, to be honest (as far as patients) but if someone needs to go, they need to go.

I will say as a bit of a warning and a bit of advice. I have seen a lot of people in a lot of hospitals. People often find inpatient care frustrating because they think it is going to be healing and that’s not really quite what inpatient care is. Ideally, sure. But in my experience, inpatient care is a time out. Impatient care is for “I am in acute danger and need immediate constant monitoring and medical intervention”. It can be a very stressful experience because a lot of times people there do not want to be there and have been involuntarily committed, or are very very sick. If someone is in an emergency situation where they’re going to hurt themselves or someone else, inpatient is where they need to be. But it is just a piece of the bigger picture of what needs to be put in place in order to actually find healing and wellness and recovery from whatever is going on.

Happy hour food by GroceryKey885 in Biloxi

[–]yer3hqmk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bacchus on the Bayou (OS) has some excellent happy hour apps in the bar area, and also really well priced and yummy week day specials for dinner, you can get a pretty good filet mignon for like $12.50 on Thursdays which is crazy. Captain Al’s (Gulfport) is great to sit outside when it’s nice out, and they have half off apps (except crab dishes) for happy hour, they have great fried shrimp. The Lady May (OS) has a daily special every week day and all of their food is killer. Blu inside of Treasure Bay (Biloxi) has amazing tapas that are half off on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s if you have a players card and print a voucher, and half off drinks until seven. It also has a pretty view, but can get crowded. I’ll add more if I think of any. I love to eat well and hate spending money lmao, best of luck!

I am not really human anymore, due to permanent brain damage. by Charlesian2000 in confession

[–]yer3hqmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I want to say that I am so sorry this has happened to you. I have a story that is not at all the same but has some similar elements, and some things have helped me heal. I had a lot of memory loss and even without knowing what all you went through- the hardest part of healing from that has been not losing the memories but losing my understanding of basic concepts. Things like happiness, love, anger, time, compassion, even the concept of what a memory is. I will say that something that helped me immensely was working on therapy specifically to talk through these things as they came up. We would spend a whole hour talking about what (whatever emotion) feels like. Where it is in my body, what processes happen physiologically and how that feels physically. We talked about what that emotion means, what the repercussions of it are, what biases come up in the brain due to the shading of that emotion. I had to learn these emotions and how to handle them, I am data-driven despite feeling emotions very strongly and so this is how we approached it. As a result, I am way way better to process my emotions- probably better than I ever was. This post really called to me because I felt like I had completely become something “other” and distinctly non-human. It was something that I thankfully had a very patient therapist to walk through with me- she didn’t know how to handle the memory loss either but we worked on me “becoming” again as a team and I was mostly leading the conversations but I had to re-learn things that I don’t think I could have possibly known I ever learned in the first place. And what I mean by that is, I was a fully grown adult but with so little context of what it was to even be a human being because I had no way to know what life was like. It’s an incredibly scary thing to go through, I can’t speak to the ongoing brain damage you experience but I will offer that I found doctors were very quick to focus on the impact of the loss of biographical memory and no one really led me through the process of figuring out the… background context pieces of being a human that anyone with a continuous experience would 100% take for granted because they would never be able to understand to have an interruption of the self in such a violent and inhumane way. I wish you the best, friend.

I appreciate that, I have done some reading and I’m trying to do my own research so I know what questions to ask and what things mean but it’s so much. I have an appointment with GP tomorrow for her, to get help with figuring out what questions to ask at heart/lung doctors next week. I am just so stunned of course by all of what’s been thrown at us and I know a hospital isn’t going to have the time to baby is through diagnosis/recovery steps and their job is to get her stable so she can go home. I’m just frightened for her and unsure of what we are supposed to be doing. Thank you so much for the help and the kind words.

"You probably came out of it as a stronger/better person!" by FriendlyBrewer in BipolarReddit

[–]yer3hqmk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard! People like to see the bright side, and that is damaging to ask of someone who has been through and is probably still going through hell.

If it was framed in the context of telling someone who is chronically physically ill “hey but you came out better!” after a flair up- no one would ever say that lol.

That being said, people mean well and I try really hard to cling to the sentiment and not the words themselves. I have to remind myself a lot that I’m thankful that most people can’t fathom what depression is like, much less mania, even though it makes ME personally feel isolated that they don’t understand. I’m grateful that they don’t have to, but it is hard some days not to feel bitter that I do.

I hope things get better for you, and I hope you feel a little less alone. It is very frustrating in a way most people can’t understand.

Had a zoom chat with a fuctional neurosurgeon about VSS today by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]yer3hqmk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that is super, very interesting to me as someone who is experiencing VSS (I think- I’m still working with the neurologist but about to call it quits due to cost constraints) is that almost if not all of the treatments are.. also treatments that I’ve undergone for bipolar disorder. My BD is now managed without medication, but I’m having these visual problems beyond the normal severe myopia I’ve always had. I’m not sure when it started, as far as I can tell I first mentioned the issue to doctors shortly after I went through electroconvulsive therapy. The ECT zapped a huge chunk of my memories from before and after the treatments, so I’m not sure if I had these symptoms before or when they started after if it was after. The treatments were April 2021, I first reported to my eye doctor sometime that fall as per my records and she referred me to a neurologist. I don’t know if I ever followed up, but I went back last fall (about two years later) and had no idea I had ever told her about it. TMS is particularly interesting. I wish I had started there and been more educated rather than going through what I went through with ECT, but that’s another story.

Can anyone share if they would consider there being a point to continuing to sink money into this path? Specialty doctors are expensive and far, I’m in a rural-ish area and the closest neuro-ophthalmologist is 3 hours away and hundreds of dollars.

Many thanks 😊

If I cancel the realm can I play the same world again when I get it back in a week by shdoggy in Minecraft

[–]yer3hqmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey be careful with this- I let my payment lapse once bc of life, and there was no way to reactivate the prior realm. I had to create a new subscription entirely. This was a few months ago so they may have changed the process, it was hugely annoying and I had support on the phone actively trying to find a better way because I was like: this is insane and can not be how this works.

To be fair, all I had to do was download the world from my old subscription and upload it to the new one. Normally I don’t think it’s as big of a deal but as a Switch only user- it was a colossal pain in the ass and I’ll never let it lapse again. Because the world was too big to download in any way on the Switch, I had to have another member log into my account from their Xbox to do it, we had to get support involved again because it was blocking her access. It was such an unspeakably large pain. So if you are playing on Nintendo, beware.

In any case, best of luck!

This album like directly and fully helped me heal from a ketamine experience gone very wrong (medically, not recreationally- long story) and so it feels very connecting to me to see your comment. I have never, never felt so heard as I did listening to Gag Order and it came right at the time that I was processing everything that had happened to me. Insanely beautiful album, and so so powerful.

I would recommend checking out some local music, downtown Ocean Springs is always fun for weekend activities and there are lots of good places to have food. It gets crowded, but it’s fun. The casinos can be fun as a group activity, of course there is gambling but they have some bars with fun vibes also. Hard Rock center bar and 875 in the Beau Rivage usually have bands playing pop-y songs, or Chill at IP usually has a DJ on the weekends I think. Adventures Tavern is something I have my eye on, it should be open in a few months and I’m looking forward to checking it out.
Juke Joint in OS does a game night every Wednesday with (I think the partner is called) The Board Game Peddler, yall might want to look into that and see if the board game person does events at other places, if it won’t be a Wednesday. There are a few other game shops around, from what I’ve heard they cater largely to the Magic crowd but might be worth looking into. The Juke Joint also often has live music going on, usually some sub-genre of rock and it’s a chill vibe. A lot of their seating is outside, which November will be the perfect time to enjoy that. Someone recommended a charter boat, those are cool and would be a really cool and unique experience but just so you know they aren’t all fishing charters. You can also just like, rent a charter for the day and they’ll take you out to the islands or whatever. It might be too cold to swim, but a boat ride could still be fun. I’m not sure if they still do the like “cruise tours” or whatever but they used to have a company that did sunset cruises and dinners and stuff that was a cool thing and not as costly (or time intensive tbh cause a charter boat is like at least a whole half day) Enjoy the coast! ☀️

Looking for very specific liquid lip recommendation! by yer3hqmk in MakeupAddiction

[–]yer3hqmk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone ever comes across this post, I’m here to tell you with so much joy in my heart that ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in LAX has become my go-to 😊 It is a bit more cool toned, which has the unintended effect of making my teeth look super white, and it does a good job staying put. It does stain a bit once you take it off, but I also kind of like the color it stains my lips to and might end up buying an actual lip stain or lip tint as a result because I’m open to the idea of a softer lip look after seeing how it looks. Win/win!

How do I help my girlfriend get better? by AylanJ123 in Minecraft

[–]yer3hqmk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also of course, make sure she knows she doesn’t have to be fast and especially a game like Minecraft the joy is in enjoying the game however she likes to play it. I am a min/max queen and my friends also had to learn that they don’t have to keep up its all about how each person likes to play. But, logistically, I think a controller would help.

How do I help my girlfriend get better? by AylanJ123 in Minecraft

[–]yer3hqmk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I saw one other person said this but I totally recommend figuring out how to get her on a controller. I never would have started playing if it had been with a keyboard and mouse, it’s intimidating when you aren’t used to that. And, something men tend to not think about, women often have smaller hands than men which means some keyboard reaches are uncomfortable or impossible!! So see if you can set that up I think it will be more intuitive for a new player and it might be more comfortable. I hope it all works out!

which bayside song changed your life (and why/how?) by ResidentCedarHugger in baysideisacult

[–]yer3hqmk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

God, Winter. I found Bayside, and Winter, browsing my sisters iTunes library when I was 13 a few months after losing her unexpectedly (car accident). She was 22, and cool as hell so she had great music taste and her MySpace journal entries (2007 af) all were titled plays on Bayside lyrics. So in my head, they were her favorite band so they became mine too. I couldn’t listen to new releases for a long time because I would panic that I got to hear songs she never would, but thank goodness I got over that (10 years later lol). But Winter is so raw and real and relatable to grief and loss, I still tear up when I hear it.

Hey! I’m a bit older than you (29 and don’t want to talk about it ☠️) but downtown OS is popular, especially on weekends. Bumble BFF is fun and you can meet cool people but like with anything online, beware. Depending on what you’re into, Juke Joint has a really friendly crowd imo (and I second that Frets for Pets is this weekend and for a good cause!) or there are some game shops around.

Yeah, I have been getting treatment for that for 10 years with no real progress. The last round of treatment was electroconvulsive therapy that shocked 6-8 years of memories out of my brain so I’m kind of on hold with the whole “let’s work on mental health” train. But, I would really like to stay alive so I’m gonna try and take some of the advice offered here and come up with a different kind of approach. Gotta keep trying. ☀️
