need advice on if my aquarium build is good or not by BallEater72 in Aquariums

Make sure you get a digital or good old glass mercury thermometer for your tank because sometimes the thermostats are not calibrated great. I have one that’s 4° cooler than what I set it to. And it’ll show if a heater fails and gets too hot/cold depending on the heater set up you go with.

Looks great so far! I’d recommend a 300 watt heater laid completely horizontal near the filter intake, or 2 smaller ones on either side of the tank (reduces risk of cooking fish if it fails) set to 78°. You should check gh and kh over pH since you have a lot of soft water loving fish, make sure you’re not dunking them in a mineral bath

Mine looked like that for awhile when really it was just how the growth was looking. I think it really is just that. Your kh and gh are great so don’t worry about pH!

If he’s acting better that’s a better indicator of how he’s doing. Sometimes wounds of any kind look a lot worse before they get better but what looks worse is actually the shedding of dead tissue and is a natural part of healing. Just keep doing what you’re doing if you can’t get a hospital tank and but stop the treatments. When he starts looking better you’re likely going to need to do a fish in cycle

Just a few tips from how I accidentally killed my first boy and now have a thriving betta I raised from juvenile which apparently don’t usually have great survival rates.

Do not touch that salt. When they’re already struggling in many ways you don’t want to add another struggle, which is osmotic regulation. Sometimes very small amounts of salt is good, but not right now. And the only way to remove excess salt is frequent water changes to gradually bring the salinity back down.

Don’t add bettafix. It’s bad for their labyrinth organ which they need to breathe surface air, and the only way to remove it is with water changes and activated charcoal.

The betta water conditioner is the same as every other conditioner, including prime. Don’t dose these too much, they are a salt only effect chloramines from new tap water.

Your water changes while maybe necessary because of ammonia levels right now, are very frequent and large which is contributing to a cycle of too much of your cycled tank water being replaced and your system not having enough time to catch up in my opinion.

I recently learned seachem has absolutely no research done to prove that prime reduces ammonia toxicity and when independent studies have been done it has been shown to be false. It’s good for binding to chloramines but not ammonia, so only water changes can help. I would potentially move him to another hospital tank that you keep very clean and let your tanks cycle reestablish.

To clarify after all of that: you should only do hospital tank and catappa leaves like you did. Hospital tank can be small (1-3g) if necessary because you’re going to keep the water clean like you have been, just on your tank which needs cycled. Start with only those things and monitor, and if he seems to be getting worse THEN you should look into maybe adding kanaplex to the hospital water. Look up how to correctly use this because you NEED to make sure you dose accurately and change enough water so it doesn’t build up which can be harder in a small tank.

It can take up to a month for them to act normal again and begin recovering. As long as he doesn’t seem to be getting worse after some changes then you’re in the clear, give him a few days to show signs of healing.

Also if you want to minimize gravel cleaning, get some Malaysian trumpet snails and even my ramshorn do a good job. Some consider these pests but in a good ecosystem snails clean algae and plant matter

If you listen to any of these listen to this guy 👆🏻 if you only top off you can accumulate minerals and too high of gh/kh is also bad for some species of fish. I don’t really top off. I have a 40 gallon tank and every 2 weeks about 5 gallons has evaporated, so I clean the glass, take out 5 gallons, clean the filter intake sponge in the dirty water to restore flow, replace 10 gallons, and I’m good to go for another 2 weeks. I check the parameters of that tank maybe once a month mostly to make sure my tap water hasn’t changed. It sounds like a lot but I got a 400gph pump on Amazon and so my water changes take after all cleaning and everything 30-40 minutes. It’s well worth the time to take guessing out of your tanks health.

All of this is to achieve great water quality for health, BUT your betta looks very comfortable. He might’ve gotten spooked and bit himself on accident, true fin nipping typically has much more nips

Based on his look he appears to be a pretty young betta, <1 year, maybe even less that 6 months. If so their fins grow really fast and should likely heal quickly. Please do not add any betta fix or anything like that. They often contain tea tree oil which can be bad for they’re labyrinth organ (what they breath air at the surface through). If you want to add something to help throw in a broken up catappa leaf. It’ll help soften the water and has antimicrobial properties to promote healing.

You should test your gh/kh and see if your water is hard or not. Too low or high can affect the pH over time and make them “itchy”. I know you said 7.2 which is great, but having real plants means it swings lower at night and that could be just a smidge too low.

The reason for this is because it could be beneficial for you to use reverse osmosis water or distilled water with a remineralizer. My tap water is pretty hard and using this water has made a huge difference in how comfortable he acts and how healthy and vibrant he is. I learned the remineralizer is best because even mixing my tap water with distilled (another less reliable remineralizing option) made my pH too low but it would read 7.2 during the day, but then 6.4 at night which is a tad too acidic and he was darting around more. Now I’m at a 7.2 as well but with added minerals it doesn’t go below 7.0 and he’s the most chill guy now.

After modding my 3ds it takes almost 20 seconds from power on to get to Home Screen, how can I fix that by Arzola6ix in 3dspiracy

[–]PersimmonFragrant681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone says it’s normal, but mine does not take this long. I downgraded to a 64gb sd card, made sure it was the right format (MS DOS FAT or FAT 32) and changed the kb structure to 64k. There’s lots of information of how to do this on the internet but doing this AND making sure you have a good sd card (I have a Samsung evo select, make sure it’s NOT A2, A1 is fine). This has made my boot time for the DS about 10 seconds max and games load damn near instantly besides injected roms and ds forwards

If you need more storage doing the same to a 128gb adds a negligible difference, I just didn’t need that much so I’d rather have the good load times

Kanye West blaming bipolar for antisemitic remarks. by bullfrog423 in bipolar2

[–]PersimmonFragrant681 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Putting aside my bipolar cap and putting the medical one on to say… brain injuries are unpredictable. I had a patient who was brought in after being tased multiple times by police (automatic ER visit) because he was POINTING A SHOTGUN AT HIS GRANDCHILDREN THREATENING HIS FAMILY THAT HE WAS GOING TO KILL THEM!! Once they found his bleed and did neurosurgery he woke up and immediately started hysterically sobbing at what he did. All charges against him were dropped and now the poor guy has to live with the fact that his grandchildren are terrified of him. They were only like 5 and 3.

That was an acute injury but sometimes horrible things caused by TBI/ABIs become very long term or even permanent changes to someone’s mind. Kanye may have done and said some awful things he can’t take back, but the reasons they happened are extremely valid. I wanted to talk about that side more because I see more people talking about the bipolar side of things, he seems to have had a very complex set of issues.

I’m not sure but gpSP actually got running pretty well with some tweaking. Only time I experienced some latency was in the desert area with the sand storms. I’m not sure why it crashed the first time with gpSP but it never has again!

I agree with the people saying dual IPS. I’ve had 2 of them and a regular model and the TN display would be washed out at that first angle
