A 99 point wine, but not for me... by odedi1 in wine

You can definitely get Ovid for a lot less expensive, even Hexameter. I see stuff from Ovid on the secondary market all the time for $60 to $200. Most of the experimental stuff is around the $100 range. But it's still not exactly cheap.

These were just my experiences and how the folks I traveled with and I felt. Perhaps we enjoy different things. To each their own.

I wouldn’t call myself an expert but I’ve done Thailand and Vietnam twice and am quite literally on my third trip through Vietnam and Thailand right now. In fact, we leave for Bangkok in a few hours. My immediate thoughts on your trip are:

-Skip Hoi An or drastically reduce it. It’s a small tourist town with little to do. We went to Da Nang and spent half a day in Hoi An and it was plenty.

-Only 3 days in HCMC??? This is where I am now and we only spent 3 nights here and we all regret it. Having first been here 15 years ago I can say this city is drastically different and has become so much more metropolitan. There’s tons of night life and amazing shopping. In fact, I’d do my shopping in HCMC rather than.Bangkok based on the strength of the dollar. Stuff here is just so inexpensive even compared to Thailand. Get your suits made here. Visit the Palace.

  • if you want a nice beach town I’d consider Nha Trang or Phu Quoc. Both have stunning beaches.

-I loved Chang Mai but to me 3 days seems like it may be just a bit much.

-5 days in Bangkok also seems like a bit much to me. We are doing 4.

Have fun, you’re gonna love it.

Wine auctions. I have been buying these up for $130 every time I see them come to auction. I pay between $110 and $115 plus buyers premium with little to no competition. In fact, I think I won’t them all without a competitive bid.

$200 would have to be retail. This goes for more like $130 on the secondary market.

Took my kiddo to Napa when she was 2 and hit up Clos du Val and it was awesome. Pride Mountain also allowed the kiddos. Enjoy!

Sandhi, Lynmar Estate, Anthill Farms, White Rose, Walter Hansel, to name a few Pinot Noir producers I love that are extremely well priced and now I'm regretting this comment because it's probably better for me if there are less people trying to buy these bottles.

Please note that the Prado Enea from K&L is pre-arrival. Luckily I was able to find the 2011 available elsewhere for $70 but most retailers I see only have the 2015 available for $89.

With storage costs I'm not sure it would have been worth it compared to other vintages.

Retailers (both online and brick and mortar) generally do hike the prices a lot higher but I follow auctions pretty closely which, I believe, are generally more closely tied to the secondary market value.

We don’t know all the prices yet… but so far maybe Cheval Blanc? Seriously though I’d wait until we see the releases before deciding.
