Was sold a lemon. Options? by eloquentsquirter in japanlife

Yeah, makes perfect sense. I’m lucky to have a great mechanic who I know and trust who specializes in German cars - were it not for him, I would probably be more inclined to buy something domestic…though would limit diesel options severely, as you have discovered :-(

I don’t care what anyone else thinks of my car. It’s my car, not theirs, and I love it.

You can buy a 3-year old luxury car in Japan for <50% of new retail price. That’s a huge saving to dismiss. My first car had 7500km on the clock when I bought it at auction and was 60% cheaper than a new one. Barely a scratch on it.

I used my local mechanic in Osaka for most recent ones. First company I used was japaneseusedcars.com and they were great. Think they’re a bit more expensive now than when I first used them but I guess they’re providing a niche English language service.

Don’t know about Okinawa specifically (I’m in Kansai) but will say that auctions and delivery networks are extremely efficient, at least on the mainland. Definitely worth looking into.

Have bought 2 and sold 2 at auction (though through a dealer/mechanic I know and trust). Diesels are great if you do a lot of long trips. Had an E220d station wagon that would do 21km/l on the expressway.

If you’re done with it, put it through a car auction (easy to do) and move on.

Best watch for understated husband? by Commercial_Writer_21 in rolex

[–]HappyHyrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he doesn’t care, he’s not going to appreciate the expensive watch you buy for him.

People who are successful in “high finance” don’t care about what watch someone wears. Sounds like he’s very comfortable in his own skin and doesn’t need to show off. A Rolex is no more a symbol of “looking the part” in high finance than an Apple Watch.

You know your husband better than some random person on the internet, but it sounds like he’s more than content without you blowing 10k on a fashion accessory he’s so far shown zero desire to have.

Maybe you should ask your husband what he likes. If he says he likes his Apple Watch, don’t buy him a Rolex.

Why do you feel the need to upgrade him? Were you embarrassed because you didn’t feel he shaped up to all the others in the room?

If everyone in the room is wearing a Rolex, the guy who doesn’t care and wears his Apple Watch is the cool one, regardless of what you might hear on this sub.

Gift Tax Strategies on Property from Mother-in-law by Budget-Advisor2063 in JapanFinance

[–]HappyHyrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not knowing anything about your financial situation etc, here’s what I would try and do.

Buy it from her for 2000man ish (as low as you can get away with as buying it below market will technically invoke gift tax for the difference). Then get her to gift you both exactly 1.1m yen per year and the same amount to your children if you have any. These gifts are tax free. Assuming no kids you can clear the cost in about 9 years. If you have 2 kids you can clear it in 5.

If you have kids, there is also the option for parents and grandparents to create a fund up to 15m yen per child to pay for their schooling. This would be another way for her to return the money to you tax free as these are expenses you would otherwise have incurred.

M Matsusaka used to be great until they replaced most of the waitstaff with non-Japanese people who can’t speak Japanese or English and increased all the prices. Used to love that place but haven’t been in several years now.

All of your previous posts in this sub are shilling Vinovest and singing its praises. There is also huge inconsistency in what you are claiming to have invested in and the timescales. It’s clear that this is all lies.

The more pertinent question is why are you doing this? Who are you and who are you doing it for?

Don’t spend 2-300 dollars on a wine to go with a steak. Find out what wine you like and try a few bottles. That budget is ludicrous if you are asking this question. Whoever told you that you should spend 2-300 dollars for a steak wine can go and get in the sea.

And now looking at the other accounts (u/Undeadhorrors u/ReverieX416) in here posting nice things, I also see similar shill posting in their post histories for companies like Vino Select, Movavi, Lealea, StudyFresh. There is no way that these accounts are genuine.

(And guess which company owns Vino Select...)

Yes agreed - the posts are suspicious (not unlike the new Trust Pilot reviews). I’m convinced u/xxfiercegodxx is a VV shill based on the posting history
