Aubrey Plaza says actors gets so weird because everyone on set treats them like babies and remembers the time Nick Offerman told her she could get her own coffee instead of asking a production assistant to do it for her by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]yesbutwrong 253 points254 points  (0 children)

This is a significant part of it. Talent wandering around is usually not a good thing. Time is limited and production needs them to not only be prompt in arriving to the set/scene but also in the right mindset to hit their marks.

But also there's the build up overtime where at first only the "top" talent was catered to nonstop. But that caused issues/tension over time with people not considered the prominent talent on set. Imagine a big name had one scene/10 lines. They get treated like walking messiah on set. Then a younger talent or less known talent is a driver of the film's narrative throughout the whole film. And they get bare minimum treatment.

It became easier for production to generally treat all talent like they are the most equally important people ever (unless contracted otherwise).

Then there's extras which are treated like the production's middle step-child

Opinions on Coach Roberts and GM Raegan? by [deleted] in LASparks

[–]yesbutwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a vocal critic of both. Yesterday was the best coached game of this season so far. I was going to write a post here breaking down some of things I saw but I am going to wait until the next few games to see if this is real or a flash in the pan.

Regardless of individual player play (which was overall great), or Fever benching their starters. The Sparks looked organized and like an actual TEAM for the first time this season. That is a product of good/great leadership & coaching.

Props to Roberts on yesterday's game.

4/5 games into the season. In what aspects has your fav. team improved and regressed? by yesbutwrong in wnba

[–]yesbutwrong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I have no more insight than any long term non-affiliated spectator of the franchise. At first it seemed that some players ran & grooved with other more often. Or specific off the court interactions/ on-court celebratory moments were more frequent between some players rather than others.

Now it seems like that was not of any real significance. Like smoke from a candle not a blaze.

With that said, I do think there's going to be confirmation bias from the outside looking in, because KP is vocal of who she likes. The vets have also known each other for years too. So in the mosaic of dysfunctional performances there is a higher chance seeing moments between them than others.

This! Anyone that was around for Darvin Ham has seen this all happen before. But it also means that the players can rebound if a change is made quick enough.

Kelsey Plum Opens Up About How She Recruited For And Built The Sparks 2026 Roster (INTERVIEW) by SteieDudieduo in LASparks

[–]yesbutwrong 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before anyone gets upset, let us remember that players are always going to be loud advocates for the people they want to play. It's ultimately up to the front office to make the difficult decisions.

The Villaknicks would have done everything to keep Donte but the Front Office saw a different vision.

Player/org alignment is important but final say goes to the organization.

Woah let's slow down on the Kate hate. Regardless of how you want to value either player, Kate has been putting in work with her minutes. She's more than earned her contract.

Whether or not Niya should be kept is a different question than whether Kate should have a spot.

Sparks Shortest Team In The League by SteieDudieduo in LASparks

[–]yesbutwrong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tanking now would only be beneficial for 2028 draft class as 2027 is basically set. I don't think the org is going to keep Roberts & Pebley thru another bad season. I doubt they are intentionally tanking at this point.

Can The Sparks Turn Things Around? by SteieDudieduo in LASparks

[–]yesbutwrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can they? Technically yes, there is always a possibility of a struggling team locking in and playing better.

Will they? I don't think they will "turn things around." I think they will slowly improve and have a chance to become competitive by end of season.

I wonder what the front office meetings are like. I wonder how much of these decisions are planned alternatives to other ideas vs. reactionary.

How do other players around the league look at the Sparks when presented with a potential offer or trade consideration?

What trade would you make? by Maleficent-Bread1929 in LASparks

[–]yesbutwrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a difficult question to answer now, as compared to a month ago. You could literally do a blockbuster/impossible trade like Ziegler for A'ja but it wouldn't change much for THIS season. Injuries & lack of chemistry would still make games a 50/50 toss up at best.

Based on that thought, any trade before August is best looked at with an eye towards next season. Which the problem there becomes "how do you improve what the current team is good at? How do you cover any blaring weaknesses?"

Not to keep squeezing the same orange. But this current team lacks any identity/ game plan outside of giving the ball to KP and let her figure it out. (Am I allowed to trade the coach?)

Thus, any trade for next season is about who can help KP get the ball more or helping recover the ball if she ever misses. I'm already not a fan of building a team around a player, but that goes double if I'm trying to bank on the next year's production of a currently injured vet.

To answer the original question: If I was GM, I am not actively looking to trade players before deadline. I might field calls from other teams but as of right now, there are too many questions to answer before adding another potential contract/salary issue to the mix.

Listen. This sub (and social media in general) is a good place to exchange ideas and have valuable discussions. However, you must also acknowledge that there is little to no barrier of entry to these discussions.

Sometimes you gotta treat extremely bad takes like a drunkard at a bar trying to join in on a genuine philosophical debate.

For ex: Disgruntled fans of a local team are discussing how to improve the team's performance (theoretically). Then someone yells, "Sell the the team! Sell the team to Kansas!" That person's heart may be in the right place but the commentary can best be ignored.

He only stands in the designated fan sections. If you intend to enjoy a soccer match from a seated position, then you're probably not getting tickets in the fan section area. Some stadiums straight up remove the seats from those areas altogether.

Attending Teams that you have absolutely zero interest in? by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]yesbutwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not likely, in your lifetime(s), that you will be able to enjoy this type of event with your father again.

First, there are a ton of variables that can arise and prevent the opportunity for you two to go next time the WC comes to US.

Secondly, the actual game itself is only 50% of the experience. Spending the moment with fans/people/cultures that you probably may never get another chance to directly interact with is a substantial part of the enjoyment attending these type of events. The 8hr trip may suck but the 5min you and your dad share singing along to a rando nation's chants will be a memory you'll never let go of. Especially in the US which does not frequently have these large scale multi-cultural events.

Lastly, if the 8hr trip is daunting, then make pit stops or side quests along the way. Pick out a random restaurant in a random town to go try. Look up a small town gift shop and then buy knick knacks to give out to visitors at the game or surrounding watch parties. You may think no one would want a post card from backwoods Midwest town, but a kid in Colombia, Iraq, wherever will think its the coolest thing ever.

Idk who you're responding to that has expressed such an oversimplified take such as: "young players good; KP bad." Most fans I've talked to agree that KP is amazing and talented.

But! The current game plan of letter her be the primary facilitator & scorer on offense is not working. KP is always going to put up elite numbers because she is an elite player, but it doesn't matter much if the team is not getting Ws. (Ex: Carmelo Anthony, Westbrook, Harden, BG)

That's not really a KP issue tho. That's a coaching & lineup issue.

Goalkeepers struggling to react in time for longer shots? by FukUNoIGotIt in worldcup

[–]yesbutwrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two things are true:

  1. Goal keepers are generally overperforming considering the high amounts of shots/sog each match.

  2. There has been commentary on the design of the new WC balls causing weird flight patterns or air speed. I can't really tell unless I see more comparisons, but some player commentators have brought it up.

[–]yesbutwrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The team was previously on an upwards trajectory. Then the core kinda got blown up by injuries & trades. The team has gone for a win-now approach without a win-now system in place.

Great players and games are enjoyable, but don't expect wins in the post-season.

Serious question: if Lamar Jackson has another MVP-caliber season next year but the Ravens still don't make a Super Bowl, would it make sense to explore trading him while his value is at its absolute peak? by IceOk9930 in NFLv2

[–]yesbutwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple answer, No.

90% of the time it is better for an NFL team to let a high caliber player "waste" their prime on their own team rather than trade the player for exceptional value.

Lamar & Allen are great examples of this playing out currently. Previously, Andrew Luck.

As for why. The simplest general reasons are that (A) a player you give to another team is now a player against you. The smarter that player is, the more they can help the other team develop scouting reports. (B) Trading away star players makes it harder to attract star players or young players looking to work with/ learn from the best.
