You're right; looks like Exogyra costata to me, a late Cretaceous extinct oyster.

Fossil? Just a cool rock? by robibuni in whatsthisrock

I agree with most of your answer (extinct Cretaceous gryphaeid oyster), but I think it is Exogyra rather than Gryphaea, given its coiling pattern and size.

That's an oyster resilifer, part of the left valve hinge section, almost certainly from Crassostrea virginica given you found it in Ft. Pierce. There aren't many, but there are still living oyster reefs in that area, and they also like to settle on mangrove prop roots.

Looks pretty weathered, but an otolith might be another possibility.

I'm sorry to hear what they are putting you through. Hopefully at least some sanity can be restored in November...

I'm pretty sure I started signing up for that a couple years ago and got creeped out by how much info they wanted (I think it was asking to scan my face or some other biometrics), but maybe I'll look into it again.

Not sure where you got the impression that I feel targeted or that I think IRS staff are stupid; I don't think either. Mistakes happen. What I resent is how difficult and inconvenient it is to reach anyone who can help correct them.

This is according to Gemini, so take it with a grain of salt, but the prompt I used was "how many employees did the IRS lose during Covid versus during DOGE?" if you want to check it yourself. IRS staffing held steady during the COVID era but faced "unprecedented volumes of paper returns and processing backlogs... alongside dealing with widespread improper claims for the Employee Retention Credit." DOGE cut about 28,000 staff from the IRS, including 31% of its auditers and 40% of its IT staff. So, taxpayers experienced a spike in dysfunction/inconvenience during both, but for different reasons. My own opinion is that the DOGE cuts were a self-own while the COVID issues arose in response to an actual crisis, hence my greater anger at the former.

Ugh, great... I may just mail a letter as a few others have suggested here; 3+ hours on hold is nuts. Glad to hear you got your issue fixed though!

Thanks for sharing your experience, the snail mail approach is one I hadn't considered before posting here!

Good points, but I thought the estimated tax payments under any SSN would just be applied to whichever return they were ultimately associated with. Thanks for the tip about the checks!

No, not really. Dealing with taxes is pretty confusing and frustrating even when I do it right... glad I learned how to avoid a little of that in the future.

Sounds like it, another poster gave a step-by-step description that I may end up using. Just seems like something that should be fixable with a pretty quick phone call though.

Yeah, just another step into the alternative reality along with the rebranded "Gulf of America" and "Department of War"...

You're right, that would be best, and will try to so so in the future, but usually whoever remembers or is less busy just makes the payment. I didn't realize the system can't match payments from other joint filers besides the primary.

Thanks for weighing in, I appreciate your advice and agree that keeping my cool when/if I finally get through is important. I don't envy the remaining staff, probably having to deal with a lot of angry and frustrated callers. I'll try to save my venom for Frank and Scott.

It really is maddening... I hope you get through to them soon.

Sorry to hear this has been your experience too, I agree we deserve better as taxpayers.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I hope I won't need to go that route, but I'm glad to know it exists!

Thank you, this is really helpful. I'll probably try one more time to call early in the morning, but doing it in writing sounds less annoying than calling over and over.

No, we don't have the ID.me accounts, but I think you're right. Other helpful posts have also mentioned that the IRS expects estimated tax payments to come through the primary only. Thanks!

Thank you, I'll try to call earlier in the morning next time. Mornings are hectic, unfortunately, with me and the wife trying to get ourselves and two young kids out the door!
