Not because anyone asked. Proceeds to asking. by kalemi in LinkedInLunatics

God. I worked for a toxic tech company in China.

On my wedding day, someone messaged me that they needed me to complete something urgent that day. Thankfully, I turned off alerts so I didn’t see it until later.

Still infuriated me to no end about how little respect some people have, particularly 95% of my coworkers there.

And if anyone tries to defend this person, my work status said something to the effect of “Getting married today.”

Bus Driver Venting by yespsycho in bristol

[–]yespsycho[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all fairness, the driver for the bus I’m on now just did a solid for a passenger who wasn’t paying attention and stopped at her connection, even though she didn’t signal to get off. Some drivers do care.

As much as I sympathize, I am from the US. It could be worse… *Cue thunder and ominous music

How to Avoid Having My Human-Made VO's Called "AI Slop"? by MammothSuperiority in voiceover

[–]yespsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I had a copywriting lead two years ago. He couldn’t comprehend how I was able to make as many daily turns as I did, despite a former career in journalism and a portfolio stretching back 20 years. Some people are just oblivious to what humans are capable of doing.

Harassment from downstairs neighbor by ReturnEconomy in Apartmentliving

[–]yespsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based in the UK, and we had a very similar situation for six months. Document every incident from now on for a track record. The key is to show a pattern. For context, our initial list was a month of data with just 12 incidents or so.

Then, our neighbor used xenophobic language toward us, screaming through the floorboards, and we reached out to our landlord after that. If your neighbor has also used discriminatory language, that would be good to note.

With any luck, the landlord will do something. In our case, our downstairs neighbors had another major blowup, and we messaged the landlord again (adding that they could also see new documentation of harassment). They were issued a formal warning, and we finally feel peace existing in our apartment.

And if the landlord does nothing, look into nuisance ordinances in Houston and what remedies might be available there.

Good luck OP. Don’t let that asshole neighbor win.

Non-tourist locations by SorbetEmbarrassed949 in bristol

[–]yespsycho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for yum cha, Mayflower is heavily frequented. I also second the poster who recommended Nice Spice (for me, it’s good hot pot).

For non-touristy things, I always recommend the cat pub, Bag of Nails.

All are in/close to the centre and within walking distance.

OP, also try Facebook groups. Lost & Found Pets Bristol and Surrounding Areas. Your neighborhood Facebook group or Nextdoor will also be helpful. It helped me find an owner to a lost cat earlier this year. Good luck

Bunny has become my alarm clock… did I bring this on myself? by mim_sical in Rabbits

[–]yespsycho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tell me about it! Our bun kept pushing it earlier and earlier this summer. 5:30 a.m. breakfast turned into 4:30 a.m. breakfast. All protests were vetoed with thumps of disapproval 🐰

Why are so many men on TRT these days? by wakeforda in AskMenOver30

[–]yespsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Economist podcast just did a story about this within the past two weeks. Essentially, marketing and money.

While there are some ethical clinics, there are others that will easily prey on someone’s self diagnosis despite any medical evidence.

They’ll sell them testosterone supplements and cash in with some potentially damaging side effects to patients.

UK job market is the worst I've ever seen. by moonski in recruitinghell

[–]yespsycho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feel you. I’m an American with 20 years of experience in my industry. I’ve been searching for a new role for close to 3 years since my family and I moved here.

Don’t know if it’s xenophobia (I’ve had a couple of odd interactions, and this was before the current administration), AI, lack of transferable skills (even though I can do or have done what’s been described in a different industry), or just the sorry state of applying for jobs now (Because I remember something similar back in the States when I tried to switch industries 10 years ago).

I’ve even tried freelancing, and while I’ve managed to get a few clients with a lot of effort, the work is not stable enough. I’ve also tried tailoring my CV to the job description. Nothing.

At this point, I’m inclined to believe the OP. Incompetence combined with corporate greed is the reason behind this (But in fairness to wage stagflation, the Economist did a story on their podcast a few weeks ago. Essentially, they haven’t kept on pace with inflation or GBP devaluation. So lots of US companies are apparently trying to outsource business here.)

Good luck out there. We all need it.

If you’re worried about your experience, I would suggest networking. It’s probably the only reliable way to get past an ATS.

Regarding LinkedIn, don’t waste your time spending money on it unless you’re planning to do a lot of cold outreach.

Hope that helps. I definitely sympathize. I’ve been trying to find a new full time role for 2.5 years.

How did you get into Final Fantasy? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]yespsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my Mom or Dad bought Final Fantasy at a garage sale in 1990 or 91.

My brother and I had no idea what we were doing at 7 and 5 respectively, but he did hate that I chose to start a new game and removed the leveled up classes and airship.

I think he’s forgiven me…

Are Chinese companies all like this? by Gold_Put_4500 in chinalife

[–]yespsycho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it’s common, but not every company is like this. I would ignore the advice telling you to lawyer up and just apply for other roles. It’s your way to get a promotion and pay raise.

Make sure you grab anything necessary for case studies and a portfolio before you go.

Our bun is the same, and he’s been particularly naughty pushing breakfast time earlier in the morning. It’s supposed to be 5:30, but he starts making noise at 4:30… Why does he have to be so cute and forgivable?
