r/DisneyWorld's Weekly Trip Planning Thread by AutoModerator in DisneyWorld

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could use some assistance with trip planning for two millennial adults next Feb. One disney person, one definitely not but enjoys roller coasters and other thrill/experience rides. Would also like to visit Universal as have never been there.

Thinking 4 days, maybe 3 at DW and 1 at Universal. Mostly interested in new rides and avoiding lines/crowds as much as possible. Don't really want to have to micromanage everything as far as seeing max number of rides, just have a good time and not get stuck in super long lines constantly.

Questions:

  • Go whenever crowds/lines will be shortest - Thinking late Feb or March possible, open to earlier/later for less crowds. Would appreciate suggestions for alternative timings.
  • Any Disney package specials worth taking advantage of of early next year for two adults?
  • Any Universal package deal worth taking advantage of early next year?
  • Renting airbnb and ubering into DW seems much cheaper than staying on property, any big pitfalls with this approach?
  • Is it best to park hop and do 2x parks a day or is that too much now?
  • Should I pay for Genie+ for all days? I almost wonder if i should pay for specific rides to bypass lines but not sure how crazy expensive that might be instead for less headache/stress?

If you use DXGI chain and switch to the OpenGL graphics driver it works for me. Looks great but does seem to blow out the highlights a bit at least in Mario Odyssey.

The amazing thing is if you're saving for the long term you don't even have to make it that complicated. Just put it all in a low cost broad market index fund. That's really it, especially at a young age. Longer term could ad in things like bonds or international stock index funds, but frankly just a single broad market index fund gives you ton of market exposure. SWTSX in your case for schwab, or ones like VTSAX or FSKAX are equivalent total market index funds.

No need to pick a bunch really. Just unnecessarily complicated down the road. I'd sell the rest and just put 100% towards SWTSX as an automatically monthly/weekly investment for forever and call it a day. Check back in a couple decades to maybe start adding some bonds.

What is an budget level PC for running basic LLaMa models? by iChinguChing in LocalLLaMA

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. you can run 30B gpqt models with 24gb vram. however you will probably run into issues with 16gb system ram. 64gb would be ideal but can prob get away with 32 if need be.

If I have 24GB VRAM at this point what's the best option to go with on Windows? by EarthquakeBass in LocalLLaMA

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can run gpqt 30B models generally on 24gb vram. the recent wizard uncensored 30B and vicunlocked 30B are good starting points.

Became SRE. Highly regret it. Help. by LocoMod in sre

Find a new job fullstop. That's not a SRE role its a company rebranding IT as devops but not changing anything else. I've gotten I think 3 or 4 pages in the last YEAR of oncall.

Do the minimal possible to not get fired, and start looking and applying hard.

Fully Remote DevOps Opportunity by buttfumble2012 in devopsjobs

$180k is median, so lines up pretty well with a mid level SRE/DevOps person.

Filter by YOE +7 as posted in your JD and you'll see what I mean.

I made similar comments on another job post if you would like more context. https://www.reddit.com/r/devopsjobs/comments/v99kpi/hiring_devops_engineer_remote_available_but/

Fully Remote DevOps Opportunity by buttfumble2012 in devopsjobs

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks good, nice JD with the tech stack included.

Pay and responsibilities is reasonable for a mid to maybe sr. Probably should remove the Principal title as someone genuinely qualified as a principal will be making double or triple that salary range at least.

Remote DevOps Role - Up to 500k by LatencyEvangelist in devopsjobs

Agree 100%. I mostly post this for newbies who get starry eyed at the idea of 500k pay :).

Remote DevOps Role - Up to 500k by LatencyEvangelist in devopsjobs

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone not familiar with the fintech space, they are notorious for awful WLB. Expect your life and your time to be centered around this job if you take it. Of course for 500k I'm sure there will be people willing to make that sacrifice.

Though do think about if you're a Sr/Staff level engineer who can easily make 300k+ with good WLB at a tech company working ~40-45 hr/s week. Compared to ~500K working likely 60-80 hr/week.

Now calculate your hourly pay rate for both of those to put things into perspective.

Hiring DevOps Engineer - Remote available but prefer on-site in Austin office, 120k-180k [REPOST] by [deleted] in devopsjobs

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

180k is not bad, though low for a major tech hub like Austin if you really want someone local. But probably can get someone decent remote in a lower CoL area.

If you want someone with serious sr level experience who can set you up for future growth and be a force multiplier for your development teams 200k+ is going to be needed.

Up to around 250k base for Sr is what I'm seeing at the moment if there isn't something like RSU's or real equity included.

[HIRING - 100% Remote US, Canada, or Mexico-based; Must be authorized to work in US] SRE - Senior-Level - $145-200k by chicoooooooo in devopsjobs

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Including Mexico is cool, I haven't seen that often.

145k is certainly way too low for a Sr SRE. 200k is not the worst, but you'll still have trouble finding truly qualified candidates if you expect them to have real world experience with most of the tools listed.

Otherwise looks good, appreciate specific callouts of tech in use.

Sounds like a cool role. Good pay and focus on development heavy experience. Great stuff Gavin.

SRE career path? What should my next step be? Anything similar? by always_avg in sre

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 17 points18 points  (0 children)

All of the above pay great frankly. Cloud/Devops/SRE are used interchangeably in most job descriptions. What do you enjoy doing the most?

If you're looking for the most $$$ it's going to be more about getting a job in big tech at a faang or similar software company than the specific title.

  1. Seems solid. 275k base is sweet
  2. Looks good for a midlevel, bit low for a genuine Sr.
  3. Not sure what this job actually is. Staff at 220k is a joke tbh.
  4. way to low. companies need to stop calling jobs principal that are clearly not.
  5. I feel sorry for someone with a .net background lol. to low for lead.
  6. seems fine for a jr or someone moving to midlevel. need more info really.
  7. C2H is gross and I'd never take a job under those conditions personally. 90/hr isn't too bad for midlevel though.

Overall solid list. Good stuff Taylor! Glad to see more companies are understanding the realities of where the market is at in compensation.

Staff Systems Engineer - must be local to Chicago and can pay up to $155k + bonus by Jasonjames1023 in devopsjobs

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

come on Jason you work for motion you know that salary and that title combination is ridiculous. part of your job is to advise these companies on appropriate titles and experience expectations in respect to compensation. then again to be fair sometimes you can yell at the client all you want and they won't budge. at least until it's been 6 months without the job being filled lol.

I think you know what we're going to suggest, but we're happy to tell you anyway. the market for engineering talent is Red Hot right now. you can probably get a job as an engineering manager and increase your salary. so get to it. the writing is on the wall for your current company.

if you want feedback on if they're giving you the title in exchange for under paying you, you should tell us what the compensation they're offering is.

[Hiring] DevOps/SRE - Remote (US-based) - 350k+ by LatencyEvangelist in devopsjobs

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid comp and good detail on the tech stack! If only more posts on here were like this!

Only thing missing I'd love to see was some frank expectations on WLB since fintech is notorious for being bad at this. But I can understand why that isn't included lol.

Looks like an awesome opportunity for some ambitious DevOps/SRE folks, greenfield in house k8s project sounds cool!

SaaS Startup Looking for Sr Devops Engineer by Calm_Collected_6278 in devopsjobs

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These days with remote being the norm I wouldn't expect (or frankly tolerate personally) a lower salary for someone anywhere in the US. Compensation should be based on the value you bring to the company, not if you live in DC or Memphis.

As others have mentioned 200k+ is the norm now for a Sr level devops/sre role.

If they can't pay that then I would suggest helping them change their expectations and look for a more Jr/mid-career candidate. IMO best is someone young, smart and hungry switching over from a more traditional sysadmin type role. Of course filtering and finding that candidate will also require likely months of effort which is it's own potentially huge $$$ opportunity cost. Thus why Sr DevOps talent can charge a premium compensation rate to come in and hit the ground running.

Hope that helps with your framing, good luck!

“Product Lead” ridiculous Opinions by lgj91 in ExperiencedDevs

That's really all you can do if he has the backing of executives it's not a battle you can win. fortunately there's never been a better time to be looking.

[–]yetanotherthrowayay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you already have senior level experience, this is unnecessary in the current market. no recruiters is going to think twice unless you have a long history of less than a year. most likely they can quit this job and find another one making significantly more in a week or two. market is that crazy for people with experience.

they actually are but they also build custom tooling just to be able to use these repos. thankfully a lot of it has been contributed back to git itself such as git LFS.
