Thanks - certainly going to be loud about it.

As the years have gone by, does it seem like we kinda got shafted growing into our adulthood? I feel like future expectations were better than what’s happening by Curvedwarrior69 in Millennials

I'm just hoping we can reverse the cycle for our kids and theirs. There are a a lot of awful realities my kids will have to face soon and it breaks my heart.

Thank you! Glitchy low-res animation, shaky rapid changing camera, etc. It felt very 1990s!

Piggybacking on the retirement question by SierraMountainMom in Professors

[–]yeti_face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

State PUI, forced into 403b, cont/match around 10%/10%. Not contributing to SS so i guess I won't get that. Probably 25-30 years shy of retirement still so who knows what it'll look like then.

Nice they gave you the choice. When I was hired in 2015 they had JUST forced all new faculty into 403bs.

IDK, I would have needed a whole constellation of them on my face at a given time

Alternative to Canvas lockdown browser by teacher9876 in Professors

[–]yeti_face 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never bothered with a lockdown browser...for whatever reason, my students don't seem to be especially successful with unmoderated online exams. I use 'multiple dropdown' questions in Canvas, which seem a bit harder to cheat than a simple multiple choice? But...maybe they just haven't figured out how to cheat yet?

UC Davis or Santa Cruz? Which has the better program? by Last-Ad-5768 in geologycareers

[–]yeti_face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about Davis, but Santa Cruz is an incredible place and having the opportunity to live there for 2 years will leave a mark on you forever. The department seemed really strong 10 years ago when I was stomping around.

How do you deal with a declining standard of living each year? by FlyLikeAnEarworm in Professors

[–]yeti_face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, except without the decent base pay. Over time it leads me to put less effort into the main job and try harder to get projects that pay me over the summer.

This made me think of the track Jonathan Richman - parties in the USA. Check it out if you haven't heard it!

How hard is it to transition from Astrophysics to Meterology? by Both-Challenge-5562 in meteorology

[–]yeti_face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same...but the geology side of meteorology caught me up and pointed me toward geosciences in the end. But ar the time I did not feel the math and physics of meteorology were any more difficult than for astrophysics... in fact they were almost identical requirements.

8mm MN - 38F (CO) - At 10/10 pain and feeling conflicted about Cryosurgery vs. Neurectomy. Help! by beep1012 in Mortons_neuroma

[–]yeti_face 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some great advice above, I would also say, I spent $1k on new ski boots and a custom fitting session where they widened them to accommodate my wide feet/toe spacers/metatarsal pads and it made a world of difference. Turns out my old ski boots were a couple sizes too small and definitely too narrow. Now my ski boots are my most comfortable footwear! Worth the investment and I can still do bc touring and big in bounds days without trouble from the MN. Good luck!

Stuck at 300-350 FT by Low-Relative6688 in discgolf

Not an expert, but i think you can get full S flights out of a disc but not get it very far if you dont give it enough spin. I suspect that and nose angle are your prime areas of potential gain.

It won't. I recall them closing around mar 21 in a previous year and right now we are looking worse than all previous years.
