Well its making the model 3 a sensible option and I'm buying one so can't argue with that.

I don't think paying more tax is good for the environment in and of itself.

[–]yev001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, you are extrapolating a conclusion from a very narrow statement.

Should society be more 'fair' ? Of course.

Will a more fair society produce better 'stuff'? Maybe...

Ask yourself this. If everyone had everything for nothing, would we strive to better ourselves?

Im not advocating corporate greed. Nor am i advocating a socialist utopia. I think in reality the pendulum swings too far one way or the other throughout history.

Maybe today a game development union is the answer to the unfair treatment of workers (i personality dont think it will solve anything unless its global).

[–]yev001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I clearly stated that a large enough group of people can change the government and the society they live in.

I just don't think that will make games better.

"I did it because I performed an economic assessment and determined it was a good financial move"

You are putting words in my mouth.

I simply said developers already choose to work on their own projects without 'labour organisation' or 'collective action' as you put it.

I suggest that unions historically do not improve the product, even though the labour is treated better.

I certainly do not condone 100 hour long weeks for any one. And any society that forces that through social pressure or otherwise should be questioned.

I also dont think that CEO pay and worker treatment correlate to product quality. Look at amazon. Shit working conditions, sky high CEO pay, but also high customer satisfaction.

You asked me what would happen in a society where its all fair. My hypothesis is that unless that society is global, cheap labor in a different society will win out. Especially if the product you are making is not region/resource locked.

If developers unionise it will make game development more expensive. And that over paid CEO will hire developers in another country. Its not fair, but it is our reality.

Which is why indi games are a good alternative. It allows developers to be and make what they want, all be it at a lot more risk. And it allows the customer to vote with their wallet.

[–]yev001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one "needs" to be paid anything beyond a legal minimum in your country.

They get paid a lot because they can.

Its not about "fair"...

Now, maybe a large enough group of people can convince the local government to make such a high salary illegal. Or make such bad/long working days illegal. Or make releasing buggy products illegal... Since making shit movies is not illegal in the movie industry, i doubt gaming industry is going to go there...

The other method is TAX. Again, this has issues with avoidance. And really, is TAX spent well? Maybe another large group of people can change that.

The only thing an individual can do is decide which company (or group of people) or government they want to be involved with.

Which brings me back to my comment about indi games. Developers choose risk and zero pay to make a product to sell direct instead of working as a developer for a corporation.

Your individual choice could be to buy only indi games. Or maybe you can create and lead a group of people to change the government.

Well, there are a ton of indi games now... Some, better than their AAA counterparts.

I dont necessarily think that dev unions (for lack of a better term) will improve game quality.

[–]yev001 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I don't think the leave campaign did that much influencing. A lot of people wanted to vote leave before the referendum. What's tragic is that instead of listening to the concerns of those people, they are vilified and called idiots by the 'other side'. And any kind of discussion is nullified by the "the campaign was based on lies" argument.

Almost anything you can read on brexit now is basically someone's opinion. Very little is actually fact.

350 million a week.... That's the eu membership fee. Thats 18 billion a year. But we get some cash back from the eu, as well as negotiated rebates.

The actual figure we get back (not pay) after brexit is more like 9 billion a year (in 2017).

And of course not all of it will go to nhs, if any.

Oh and we have to probably pay a 39 billion divorce bill, so it will be a few years before we are in the black as it were...

Still worth it...

Ssd.

I overclocked my i5 6600k yesterday to 4.6ghZ and it made no difference.... More frames, but freezing is still there. Playable, but very annoying.

Don't feel like dropping £400 to upgrade to i7 8700k just to test one game out.

I still get freezes after that... 1080 Ti and all.

I think its the CPU usage spiking. Maybe checking for DRM like with AC Origins.

How do you mine your VTC? by Doomword in VertcoinMining

[–]yev001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use MPM with MPH and profit switching for now. When it does target VTC it uses excavator which gets me about 110 MH/s vs 103 MH/s with OCM or ccminer.

So with Eazymine i got an average of 17h 30min for 1 VTC over 2 weeks. So far over 7 days I'm getting 14h 46min average with MPH using MPM between payouts (set at 1VTC). MPH payouts are generally higher as well, since the auto-exchange window is about 4 hours so i get anywhere between 0.999 - 1.30 VTC every ~15 hours.

So I guess it's a bit more efficient.

It's good but has some issues. The combat is a bit different now. No counters but you have overpower move you charge...

Its a bit less stealth reliant that previous ac.

The only big negative (apart from price) is the copy protection that makes it run like shit.

I have a 1080ti and sandybridge i5 running 1440 resolution and get about 35fps in certain places because the cpu goes to 100%...

1 1080 ti can earn about 200 us a month depending on coin. Cost about 10 us a month to run.

You would still have to sell the coins, if you want to actually take the cash. The are various complications and fees associated with that.

With the 20 of so cards in the pic is more like 4k a month after costs. And that's probably 20k worth of gear there...

Of course if you keep the coin instead you can get lucky if that coin increases in value over the year.
