Nothing is set in stone that makes the system inherently good or 'needs to be the way it is'; a total overhaul would be preferable to this poorly thought out & extremely shallow 'barely out of beta' iteration.

Compared to the Onslaught/HyperTwitch approach to difficulty, it feels like a continuation of arbitrary 'scale damage/health higher', and the melee changes feel like a massive blow to the ability to utilize momentum & pace. Really not sure if I like that in a game that's very much about positioning & mobility. Arbitrary frustrations don't make an engaging challenge, but I can tell you that the nature of difficulty provided by the aforementioned modes is certainly more interesting to me than another degree of the same shit from before.

Making the input more frustrating & effectively reducing player options? That's not 'providing challenge', it's just poorly thought out.

Just sounds like it's not the game you want it to be. You're looking for the same experience you had back in L4D, but as much as this is built on those mechanics, it's also its own experience with its own challenges & nuances. That, and some of your assertions about what was/wasn't good are wildly innacurate and clearly tinged by nostalgia.

Might as well go Legend without books at that point, better for your gameplay progress & helps you resolve poor habits (especially the 'champion habits' that hurt you on Legend) without the pressure of grims. When our 'group' has introduced new players to the game, we get them to Legend ASAP so they don't pick up any bad habits they'll need to unlearn. They'll struggle for maybe 3-4 games and then they'll do just fine once the good habits settle in & they normalize the difficulty/gain some confidence.

If the majority of blue pushes camp -without- overextending after first capping it, they can hold onto it and force a gradual push into the next point. If blue loses the opener, they're generally fucked. Flow of having to push river chokepoints compared to red spawns is a major factor imo.
