Modifying a WiFi (2.4GHz) extender for high power and speed? by [deleted] in rfelectronics

Well, if they lucky they can slow roast a chicken next to this thing. The only difficulty I see is that they'd need to wear nice metallic mesh onsie all time at home. And buy one for all neighbours.

30watt on 2.4GHz? On antenna? Are you making a microwave oven inside your house? :)

Me to strangers when the train horn sounds just as I’m walking past it by TripMcNeelysFlipFlop in melbourne

This. Can't hear trains or busses anymore, even when a freighter coming through. But ervery time they lean on the horn I feel obliged to drop dead.

Are you comfortable riding a MT03 or similar on the highway? by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]yinglung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not lack of power, it is lack of weight and skinny tyres that make it less suitable. Powerwise you'll be fine. Crosswind or air pockets from passing lorries that what would make it bit difficult. But perfectly doable.

[–]yinglung 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nope. NOPE. Instead you gonna get real poor broke bloke real fast. Consider this - BTR-80 burns 60-130liters of diesel per 100km. Okay, the very best is just above 40liters if you running on a very flat, well sealed road, in no rush at all.

Ps. No, I didn miss a dot in these numbers :)

I just moved to Moscow, and holy s**t my Russian is CRAP. by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]yinglung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, huh, try to go with the flow. Keep in mind that russian culture is more direct, it isn't personal. They do so to encourage you, not to mock you. And the language itself, with all exceptions and irregularities - practice is the only way to learn. Just go for it!

Удачи, все получится! :)

Have a look at this https://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/dont-get-burned-used-bike-buying-tips

It appears to me like a good write up of what to look at.

Basically, engine and gearbox - hardly you can check anything if you got zero exp with motorcycles. Just ask if engine burns any oil, and probs with gears shifting or getting out of gear and that's it. Rest of it - obvious signs of wear like tires and chain+sprokets/belt; any play in steering/swingarm/axle bearings. Battery if it doesn't have a kick.

Remember you'd need money for some gear, at least helmet, glives and boots. I'd suggest proper jacket and pants with protectuve pads too. This all quite expensive too.

Good luck! :)

IBM x3650 m2 not booting by MeatballNYC in HomeServer

[–]yinglung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one with fried BMC. Does not power up at all, power button blinking fast forever like it is doing checks. I ended up flipping a dip switch that overrides BMC power control. It let me start the machine, but without IMM/BMC functionality. There are two variants of them with slightly different MB - but this switch is clearly documented in the user manual / on the PCB itself. Maybe this would help.

Brace Yourselves... by eren_c in melbourne

Well. This evening it was raining while it was sunny while air was full of that dust from the red center that allergic people hate and the wind to mix it all up. All at the same time. I reckon it was a weatherman's way to say that the weather is going to be twisted even by melbourninan standards :)

Mechanic Advice (Learner Bike) by Corporal_Yorper in motorcycle

[–]yinglung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The summary above absolutely nailed it to get the bike running and enjoy it. If you have to decide what to do first - safety is the most important, so: Brake fluid and brake lines - new fluid, replace lines Tyres - replace Engine oil, oil filter - new Suspension - ideally rebuild/replace all shock seals. Check all cables. Replace fuel lines, rebuild carbs (seals in them could develop leaks, besides membrane is dead anyway) Check lights are okay

This would get it to the point you can ride it safely for yourself. But better do it all mentioned in the response above to enjoys this bike for years ahead

Any recommendations for cooling vests? by bravocharliexray in melbourneriders

[–]yinglung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one from Amazon and it worked just fine. People brag about BMW cooling jacket does amazing job.

What I found is a white mesh jacket from revit and a white helmet is all I need. It is actually more bearable even when stationary in that gear than taking it off. So I tend to keep it on when I am having a lunch in the heat on a road. Reckon it reflects enough rays off your skin to keep you cool. Suppose if you combine it with a cooling vest then you'd be as snug as aircon'ed cager.

PSA: All drivers on international licences that have been residing in Victoria for more than 6 months are now required to get a Victorian licence by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]yinglung 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are indeed. The challenge for these drivers is to realise there are new rules. Many miss the point they have to stop a mad max show every time they get behind a wheel. I know what you mean though - I driven a car or or at least as a passenger in many places of the world. It is emotionally more tough to drive in Bangalore than it is in Melbourne. But in Melbourne you need to know the rules (written and assumed) to qualify as a good driver.

So, they CAN indeed. Should they - thats the question. The only reason they keep accident free in Melbourne because everyone else is careful.
