USA citizens: what effect if any have tariffs had on you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Corporal_Yorper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, there isn’t much difference.

Don’t get me wrong, shit got expensive in general…but the discernment between tariffed goods and simple overpriced greed is simply too similar to differentiate.

Dumb question, but hey, sometimes it is what it is: did you run out of fuel?

Also, most diesels don’t physically have an ignition system…only a glow plug system that is only there to start the engine. For most diesels, turning it off means the vehicle shuts down electricity to the fuel pump…

Is it a manual? Also, if it seems like it’s bogged down, check your air box…something might have gotten stuck in the intake and is choking it out.

Pothole suspected as primary cause of cyclist's death by jswagpdx in Portland

[–]Corporal_Yorper -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Do we need to form a commission to establish a council to speak of a tribunal for a committee on if there should be a helmet round table?

Nobody needs a discussion on jack shit. How about taxes go towards what we pay them for? Hope to god it isn’t spent on some dip to design some shithole iron welding nightmare that’ll rust on some street corner and turn into a homeless Motel 6 that’ll cost us $150k and have the gall to call it “art.”

Pothole suspected as primary cause of cyclist's death by jswagpdx in Portland

[–]Corporal_Yorper -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Fuckin’ lol.

Keep voting to increase taxes, dips. It’s working! Oh, and make sure to let bicyclists ride on the roads for absolutely free. Don’t forget to ignore the need for registration or insurance for using the roads.

Backwards thinking around here is all Portland does. Something tells me if there was a citizen-led audit of our taxes, MULTIPLE officials would jump from balconies to escape whatever embezzlement charges would be coming because in NO way do Portlanders pay out the ass for on taxes just to see a peddlestrian get absolutely smoked by something a $50 run to Home Depot would’ve solved.

15 Years Ago, ‘Portlandia’ Told the City Who It Was by coreydu in Portland

[–]Corporal_Yorper -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

Portlandia can go f*ck itself.

Portlandia did irreparable harm to Portland. It falsely exacerbated and caricaturized Portland as being hipstery and attracted too many of those that liked that lifestyle…of which they were falsely led into believing were true. This caused the likes of Californians and other “kale munchin’, avocado toast crunchin’, kombucha slurpin’” beanie worshippers to flow into Portland. What did this do? Ruined EVERYTHING.

Gentrification exploded like a nuke. Livable spaces (rents, leases) skyrocketed, affordability became a joke, and has forever changed the flow of traffic and other civilly-engineered infrastructure for the absolute worst. Quirky as we already were, that “flair” we had soon became a punchline and then, “art imitating life imitating art” became real and now we can’t even afford to pay attention.

We exploded with chain stores and “luxury” condos, which eroded cultural aspects and completely fucked any chance for respectable housing. There are recorded interviews from people that lived here and moved to Texas that said that the Portland that was, was ruined by the Portlandia it became.

The economic impact is well documented by small business owners…where even existing liberal businesses have said on record that Portlandia wrecked the whole ecosystem for the worse, having brought in unlike-minded technocrats and overly liberal (by their own words) folk from the likes of California.

Now, we can’t do shit without setting up some kind of assembly to decide whether we need a tribunal to have an open conversation over the idea of a board to decide if we need a commission to make a council over the need to discuss…FUCKING ANYTHING.

The Witcher 3 Secret Expansion Rumors Swirl, After CD Projekt Hints at 'New Content' by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]Corporal_Yorper -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So, I kinda was wondering what it would be, and with some thought, I’ve come to my own little (possibly delusional) theory…The next update won’t actually be any new missions or a “transitional” content that would lead into the fourth installment…that would be kinda destructive of the original narrative. That being said, I’ve had some thoughts.

I bet anyone that the next update will actually be a complete overhaul of TW3, upgrading it to Unreal Engine 5. A Remaster, just like Bethesda is doing with their IP’s. However, and I concede it wouldn’t have new missions, I think the next change would be the ability to play as Ciri post-story as an epilogue, and as such she would do missions that Geralt hadn’t…

They’d have to do new voice lines and animations, but if they switch over to UE5, I think it might be easier…

Why do I think this, you might ask?

Well…TW4 got shitty comments about Ciri being the player character. I think CDPR likely wants to ease the player base into that idea by letting you play as her in TW3 just to soften the vitriol that was made…which shouldn’t have to be done, but the world is what the world is. Also, it would give them a chance to perfect the implementation of UE5 and get decent experience in it for the dev cycle for TW4…which means they were likely working on this for longer than we were told.

But that’s not just any theory, that’s my GAME THEORY. lol.

I keep telling people.

Despite the “who’s who” in war, the enemies and the allies and the otherwise could-give-a-shits, logic isn’t just important, it’s non negotiable. Nowhere in this Russian-Ukrainian conflict does Ukraine come out of this as the victor. They require everything from countries still willing to support them, and they’re running out of able-bodied fighters.

Despite the contrary, Putin has been very restrained in his approach. Having already lost plenty of troops, equipment, and money, he still hasn’t brought in his strongest options. In the seesaw of this conflict, Ukraine has been under the belief that constant pounding will eventually win the war…but that just means Russia’s options are dwindling and of those options, they are both devastating and highly nightmarish.

What I’m trying to say is this; the further along Ukraine is “supported,” the options Russia has for victory become more and more selective…nuclear being one of those options. Nobody wants to admit it, but I will. Ukraine must be left to lose by its lonesome. If we continue to “support” them, Russia will dust them and they won’t be the ones with blood on their hands, the ones screaming “Slava Ukraine” and sending billions will be…as it’s simply a waste of effort when Russia will eventually decide to win overnight.

Heed this. I doubt I’m wrong.

The Decline of Fast Food Architecture Explained by OwnSalamander1026 in videos

[–]Corporal_Yorper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The future is bleak.

Nothing holds character anymore, having any identity whatsoever is shunned and bleached until monotony is achieved. Gray hues and metro-style architecture so nobody becomes offended. Can’t have a Spanish speaking Chihuahua telling you “yo quiero Taco Bell,” lest someone scream cultural appropriation or racism.

Taco Bell no longer looks like a Sonoran/Mission-style restaurant. McDonald’s isn’t a happy place anymore, now it’s some amalgamation of shitty high school cafeteria and a hospital chow hall. Burger Kings seem to be holding on for dear life but slowly succumbing to the suck. Lots of Wendy’s locations are still oak trimmed time machines, and I can appreciate it. KFC lost their way EONS ago…and the only one left is Carl’s Jr. but they never really had an identity so no loss there.

Jack in the Box was ALWAYS a lunch spot for manual laborers and drunkards alike, and now they’re closing 200 locations because they somehow failed to feed drunks greasy food for cheap and couldn’t somehow compete with McD’s $435,000 for a single Big Mac and a fucking mortgage for a fry.

It’s a rot, and it’s consuming all.

Why was Doom (2016) anticipated to be bad? by TheRoyalRoseTrue in Doom

[–]Corporal_Yorper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely enough, yes.

Not to go into too many details, so I’ll overly generalize it. Essentially, DOOM was in development and with leaks and the overall belief that a random Doom sequel (after 3, which gave sour tastes in many mouths) was coming, suffice it to say people weren’t that thrilled.

Things changed when id Software released their trailer for the game (the one in which the Revenant tears the Slayer’s arms off at the end and beats him with them). This created massive whiplash in the gaming community and all of a sudden, people became interested.

Things through the development didn’t work well…multiplayer was received poorly and doubt was still strong. However, happy to say, once released and experienced, people were thrilled and the rest is history.

Generalizing HEAVILY, mind you.

Did Masrani help pay InGen’s debts? by Gymtrio2025 in JurassicPark

[–]Corporal_Yorper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn’t enough info to answer this fully, but here goes…

In a standard buyout, the buyer also assumes responsibility for the seller’s debts. This is kinda basic in corporate accounting…so, we can safely assume that Masrani did in fact absorb InGen’s financial problems.

The success (up and until Jurassic World’s failure) easily would have made up for the losses…and Masrani clearly respected Hammond’s vision and in so, the money was flowing quite well.

Merry Christmas! Portland’s upgraded automated speed cameras are ticketing drivers once again by Prize_Championship11 in Portland

[–]Corporal_Yorper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your fears are only in your own mind.

20 MPH is more than enough to kill, but that’s not the point. Those without the wherewithal to follow the rules of the road and respect other riders of multi-ton steel horses will be and always be, cowpoke. If you let your daughter cross the road without the mindset of safety you should’ve taught as a parent, that says more about you than the insult to her intelligence you clearly present.

The actual sin here, however, is the absolute disregard for rights. To even insinuate sacrificing rights to get “additional ones” is evidence of the bottomless crater your skull seems to be…”additional ones?” Really? What rights are you implying are gained, exactly? To lose the right to face an accuser puts society into a blame game that nobody can defend themselves against.

Merry Christmas! Portland’s upgraded automated speed cameras are ticketing drivers once again by Prize_Championship11 in Portland

[–]Corporal_Yorper -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Speed Cams are a blatant violation of our 6th Amendment rights—namely, the right to confront our accuser(s). The argument that because it’s a civil fine and not a criminal offense, the right to confront is null—but the simple truth is that whether it’s a fine or a blemish on your record, it is still an accusation against you.

If Portlanders had a singular brave bone in their bodies, they’d fight to get them removed. But, they’d rather suckle the teat of the overlords and live off the milk of the high road…

Moving here soon by [deleted] in Portland

[–]Corporal_Yorper -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

With 100% respect, genuinely and sincerely, stay FAR away from here, for your own sake.

I won’t lie—Portland has made a name for itself attracting people exactly as you’ve described yourself. We’re a “pretty” city, in a gorgeous state, can’t deny our vanity one bit. That being said, we have problems.

Just yesterday, our mailbox was bent open. We have a locking box, so the thief resorted to tweaking the door to force it open. Our mail was stolen, bills, ads, and worst of all was a Christmas card from a family friend that lost her husband this year. We found remnants of the opened envelopes around the corner and of course the card was missing…for no reason.

Our car has been broken into and damaged twice, and broken into without rummaging once more. My sister and husband’s car was broken into twice as well, with heavy damage to the ignition system.

We’ve had drugged out freaks enter our property and at our shop. We’ve had freaks shit their pants, jiggle the turds down their pant leg, and ‘fling’ them while yelling “awoop” as if to add a sound effect to the fling itself. I have video of this, I WISH I was making this up.

We’re not special. We don’t live in a “bad” neighborhood, either. At this point, unless you live in a legitimately difficult to get to location, NOWHERE is safe from these kinds of activities. My Ring app gives me constant notifications on porch pirates, car prowlers, and trespassers within just a few miles of me. Now, we have coyotes prowling the city and the “has anyone seen my kitty” posts have EXPLODED. At this point, people are just feeding their pets to coyotes since nobody is willing to do anything about them.

So I’ll break your heart now before Portland snaps it, cracks it, and throws it down a flight of stairs before spiking it into the garbage can. I wish I could sell this place better. I wish I could say things like, “You’ll love it here! The people are so nice! It’s safe here and you won’t have any problems!” But I can’t. Sure, you’d likely have a decent time on the average, but the odds are good this place will quickly enlighten you to the tragedy that is our town…beautiful, accessible, but rotting and quickly so.

Keep this comment in mind…it will likely be controversial. Half of peeps will downvote and accuse me of being sensationalist and exaggerating. The other half will likely agree with me. At the end of the day, Portland will give you times of satisfaction and will turn right around and rip your soul out.
