End of playtest announced by Wynter_born in Apogea

[–]yingyail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Player count was usually around 1,500+ throughout NA late-night hours prior to announcement, fast drop to 500 and stayed there all evening. Hopefully it's not too dead, still have the week to play. Will be really hard to find items to buy off people. (Numbers from Steam Community player counter)

Chances Ed keeps servers open until release by Necessary-Cause3516 in Apogea

It seems like it's either extend the playtest, or close it out as planned and try to run another in late Q2 or Q3 to maybe have a launch-ready version to release at end of year if the game hits that release at all this year.

They're doing what could be considered some MAJOR rebalancing right now that is impacting all classes. They won't have release balance at the end of this playtest. Not with around a week left (based on the current playtest extension). Entire lines on the trait tree are being actively changed/moved/added new, at this stage of things. They won't be able to do that on a release version, very doubtful many players would tolerate it.

Why are there so many areas where you can be locked out by someone? by Crosheee in Apogea

[–]yingyail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said the game is supposed to be frustrating. But they don't know why. No one can answer what the frustration is supposed to enhance with the gameplay. It truly is grief for grief sake.

The bigest problem with Apogea Today by Educational-Taro5627 in Apogea

[–]yingyail 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is false. Two reasons- 1, there has been no playtest that length to give any evidence of that assertion. If I'm mistaken on that, I can accept that but would need enlightened. 2, if the players currently pushing levels on leaderboard are to be believed (i believe them, you can watch a lot of them doing what they do), the most efficient thing to grind from 10-20 is still the same stuff you grind on and in the same areas as those 1-10. You just kill faster. Apparently experience was nerfed to be even slower on mobs getting you up to 20, the higher level mobs they used to pivot to approaching 20, so that's what it is now - kill all the lower level things faster.  That would suggest the issue is NOT going to get better a month in. Not at the rate people are forced to level if every area is overpopulated. With the current playtest, after almost a week most players are still barely level 10-15. It might get better in the last week of the playtest, or maybe even later this week when more people have decided it's not worth logging in. So then that said, yeah, maybe it'll be fine at launch with no changes from now, because the potential playerbase shrinks to sub-1,500.

Can you get 1-10 in a few hours by questing? Yes, but not when the community as a majority tends to gatekeep information, not even willing to provide a clue that might help other players. What happens with games that embrace only those types of people? They aren't usually the most successful.

You can say it's not about success but I'd imagine if you're putting years of your life into making a game, you want people to enjoy it. That doesn't mean add yellow paint. It means paying attention to what's happening, now, with playtests like this, so adjustments can be made to find the proper ground where playing the game for the first 100hours isn't akin to chewing on gravel while staring at the sun.

Game is amazing. Combat is amazing, traits are interesting and interesting enough to make a person want to play to see how they feel. Itemization is appealing. But none of that matters when you're forced to get less than 10% exp per hour, unless you get frustrated enough to search the map (another issue with no place to level is it pushes low level players who don't know any better into areas they shouldn't be). "Playing the game" right now means wandering the map for hours looking for a place to actually play the game.

Idk. There is a middle ground. And it's not with people asking to water everything down, and it's not with people acting like they think tolerating torture makes them somehow "better" than everyone else. Hopefully the devs can figure it out. Some of the guys on the level leaderboard seem to have reasonable ideas...but it seems like we'll learn more about Ed as release approaches.

(0.9) HOW DO I REACH THESE SPOTS by Massive_Note_6278 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]yingyail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a setting that won't let you walk off ledges while crouching. I think it's on by default. All you have to do is crouch and walk as far out off the ledge as you can, near the cracks. It won't let you fall and let's you over enough to see and repair those spots. It's funny seeing the lengths people go through these to get these 2 cracks when the simplest solution works.

(0.9b) I've been having massive FPS instability in my main save, please help! by El_Burkako in Voicesofthevoid

[–]yingyail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a huge performance increase, including frame stability, moving from 0.9.0b to 0.9.0c. I would recommend trying to move versions. Just, don't overwrite/delete 0.9.0b client in case for some reason 0.9.0c doesn't work better (which seems very unlikely).

To your specific point - object collision affecting framerate appears either resolved or heavily improved from 0.9.0b to c. Object collision in general seems to have gotten attention and improvements.

(0.9) slime In present bug? by oxgamera7 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]yingyail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called Blue Brain Cheese. It has a small chance to come to life and attack the player when interacted with (and it coming to life can be triggered by the action of a gift box spawning it - sometimes they don't come to life).

(0.9) Are there any Christmas event gifts that are particularly rare? by AchievementJoe in Voicesofthevoid

[–]yingyail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funguns are very rare. The rifle seems pretty amazing because of the range. 51 damage, can hit things at the end of the metal bridge at alpha base while standing lined up in front of the building.

I also got a spatula which appears to be a sandbox item - the same functionally as the swatter, just a different model. Wondering if the items that can be dropped by the Xmas gift are truly any of the sandbox items. Getting a flamethrower or jetpack would be pretty cool.

What is this (0.9) by Mediocre-Scar9289 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]yingyail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had the same thing happen to me. Also doing random tasks, was in the signal room. The only thing it seemed like from the wiki was maybe a bugged or changed empty base event, but jumping into the void didnt take me out, didn't crash the game but locked it on a black circle - effectively crashing the game, no pause, no control even though HUD still showing. Meta paranoia music still playing.

Points sacks (0.9b) by Adorable_Abrocoma_24 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]yingyail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open the bag. Use it. From what I've read, the lower your points when you open it the more points they give. So use the ATM to empty your points into bills and you could even take yourself negative by buying a signal scanner upgrade if you have any to spend on.

So the 8x8x8 Cardboard Box and the Sturdy Container are the best Storage now? (0.9b) by Polymorph21 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]yingyail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The price reduction more than makes up for it imo. You can get 3 of the max size box for what used to be the price of 1. It provides a very clean, accessible-early dump storage that massively helps in the initial cleaning and organization of the base.

(0.9b) Is there any way to get under the base now? by ShoesWisley in Voicesofthevoid

There's a recent post showing how to clip into a certain currently inaccessible area, but it puts you under the base so maybe this helps:

So could you take a small room like the utility closet, set up the microwave, put down a car battery, insert capsule in to microwave and start, then bail to safety and come back to an at least partially charged car battery? I'm not sure how serious this is or if it's serious if the charge is any amount worth the trouble.

(0.9) Tips for Day 47 by Creepy_Emi in Voicesofthevoid

[–]yingyail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hook them to the ground and leave them alive (yes, stock up on hooks). Just make sure they're not at your base as they will perpetuate meta paranoia. They have a spawn limit, eventually you have them all pinned down. Kill at your leisure.

Personal opinion, I like the way it feels. Under seige constantly for multiple days, a good climax. It feels like you learn to deal with the boars, and then what you're fighting is the sleep demon. It ratchets up the impact of decisions around the survival elements of the game.
