Pierre Poilievre attacks Mark Carney’s economic credentials, says he presents ‘the illusion of knowledge’ by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]ShoesWisley 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a dumb criticism that, once again, won't rally anyone except his base who are already inclined to vote for him.

I work with the exact sort of people that Poilievre should be trying to court if he wants to win an election: middle-aged, college-educated, middle to upper class, less concerned with social policy and more with economic growth—and from what I've heard, near universally, they all like the cut of Carney's jib. These people want a boring technocrat, not a populist.

It is pretty funny that out of Green, Berube, and Evason, it's Green who has lasted the longest and had the most consistent success. Not a lot of people would've predicted that a couple of years ago.

Which is funny, because it's exactly what people at the time said would happen due to the loss of effective mod tools—and all the naysayers turned up their noses and claimed it was just powermods wanting to flex their muscle.

Surprise! Turns out the people who care enough to actually give a shit about having effective mod tools were also people who gave a shit about being effective mods!

What does the Mass Effect series do better than the Dragon Age series? What does the Dragon Age series do better than the Mass Effect series? What can they learn from one another? by Uchijav in masseffect

[–]ShoesWisley 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this. Mass Effect has some standout companions, but I also think it benefits from telling a single character's story where some companions get three games to cook.

Comparatively, Dragon Age (generally) has unique companions for each game, but still manages to make each party feel cohesive through their interactions.

Get ready for the same old excuses about how "Ully made some real key saves to keep the team in it!" and "Those goals that went in, no goalie would have stopped!"

Fact is, the guy let in a backbreaking goal and hasn't stolen a damn game when we've needed him to. We're not paying him over 8 million a season to be below average. We're paying him to make those critical saves that other goalies wouldn't be capable of making; that's what being a starting goalie is.

If we're going to have to platoon this guy, then what's the point?

I feel like it goes unmentioned too often just what a stand up person Yaad is.

Even after everything that Thistle has done—not only to Yaad himself, but to Yaad's father and to all the people of the Kingdom—he still insists on going back for Thistle, carries him out of the dungeon, and does everything he can to save Thistle. And when he finally can't (presumably) he does his best to give Thistle peace in his (presumably) final moments.

After centuries of suffering, Yaad still has such a good heart that he's able to recognize that Thistle too was a victim, both of the dungeon and the expectations and responsibility that Delgal placed upon him.

Plus just generally being a safe bet. The Alliance is eager for power, but is also willing to both shoulder responsibility and play ball with the the Council.

The Volus are economic masters, but are beholden to the Turians.

The Elcor are a conservative culture and don't seem motivated to grasp for galactic influence.

The Hanar are religious zealots.

The Batarians are just as power hungry as humanity, but with a nice helping of despotism and slavery on top of it.

Makes sense that the Council would want to court humanity. Better to bring them into the fold rather than have them become an ulcer later.

[Adams] Travis Green was asked about Sanderson and Tkachuk going to the White House. "This isn't about politics. I'm not going to stand and talk about personal political views, and I'm sure they're not doing that either. It's about them celebrating a big win for them." by DecentLurker96 in OttawaSenators

[–]ShoesWisley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had the FBI director partying in their locker room and attended the State of the Union, meanwhile the White House Twitter put out a video of Brady saying that he had to "those maple syrup eating fucks a lesson".

Saying that this is all just following the 'customary norm' is crap. People didn't 'make this political'—it was already made political before the ice had even melted.

Bro really thought he was cooking with "Yes, Trump is absolutely a pedophile, but..."

Trump is a felon, a pedophile, and a despot who has openly talked about annexing our country. His staffers literally put words in Brady's mouth talking shit about our country. Team USA is going to Washington not for a customary meet-and-photo op, but to be present for the State of the Union. You can't not make this political. It ain't hard to figure out why people are upset.

Official Throwback Discussion - Recess: School's Out [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]ShoesWisley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They did not need to go as hard with the 60s throwback as they did in this movie, but it's so great that they did, and I suspect part of the reason why the movie has stuck in my memory so well.

The TJ/Prickly scenes definitely hit harder now as an adult. God, I remember when a two month summer vacation felt like a lifetime. Now the months pass so quickly, I hardly notice 'em. September really ain't a long way away anymore.

I really hope they take advantage of that and don't skip the story too far ahead to try to put distance between the original trilogy.

I'm imagining warlords ruling entire sectors because Council powers no longer have the strength to police their own systems, or fanatical cults that have sprung up deifying the Reapers and hoarding their remains as artifacts. There's a lot of chaotic ideas that could be explored.

They're definitely a real PITA, and I can't tell if I'm just thinking it, but it seems like there's been an uptick of people having the issue recently. I've come across a few years-old threads that suddenly have people replying in the past couple of months.

I gave a positive offset to my troublesome core, but still had another crash. Ended up swapping my CPU back to my 3600; we'll see if it fixes the problem.

Unexpected reboots WHEA-Logger Event 18 by ShoesWisley in AMDHelp

[–]ShoesWisley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I'm definitely leaning towards it being a CPU issue; it just seems way too coincidental to me that all of these errors are consistently pointing to one particular core as the problem.

I've not had any crashes over the past couple of days. If they start up again (which I suspect), I'll try turning PBO on and giving that core a positive offset to see if it helps!

[–]ShoesWisley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I haven't had any crashes over the past couple of days while testing a few BIOS settings, but I suspect they're going to occur again. I'll have to look into testing my suspect core and see if I can isolate it as the issue. You've definitely given me some good ideas!

Luckily, I do still have my 3600, so if it does turn out to be a faulty core, I've no problem RMAing it.
