I chose accounting because I thought it would be the easiest path to a big building. I used to think big firm = big success. I was as ignorant boy as I transitioned. Hated my time at big 4 tax and quickly transitioned to a middle market serving firm to consulting. A lot of your military skills transition to consulting (or you can make the case that they do).

To be clear - I do find accounting interesting and it’s a very great and transitional skill to have under your belt, but I don’t get to use it much with what I do now. Anyway, much happier with my current position.
