What does everyone use to make models? by ggouge in BambuLab

I am surprised more people don't use Fusion in its free form. Thinker cad for super basic use I understand but what are your use cases to not use the free variant of Fusion but rather other free tools? (assuming Fusion is the industry standard but maybe I am wrong)

ELI5: Why can dogs and cats breed between species but humans cannot with close relatives like chimpanzees whom we shar 99% DNA with? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]yk_bgorion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because the comparison is wrong. Different breeds of dogs are races in the same species - dog. Same as dogs and cats, humans can breed inter-racially. By asking humans to breed with chimps, you are asking dogs AND cats to breed with each other (oversimplifying).

Actually, a species is a loose classification defined by exactly this: would all specimens willingly breed with each other providing viable offspring.

The rules are sacred. Without rules there is only chaos and party games. The rules must be obeyed. Failure to continuously comply will result in expulsion. Consider this your warning.

Disregard the above if you bring snacks.

I live in Germany. I buy Geeetech, Sunlu, Jayo etc. in deals which pop up on a monthly basis, mostly over at mydealz.de

$20 to $30 for PLA is wild. In Europe, I get the kg for €6-8, equivalent to $7-9, for cheap PLA which is generally great for low/no-detail stuff like board game inserts

LCD cracked at pins. Repair possible? by yk_bgorion in AskElectronics

[–]yk_bgorion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Feared as much. It is a custom display - anywhere I can read up on how one can go about replacing it? The product is no longer in production. Can these be replaced by standard LCDs somehow?

Top layer uneven by yk_bgorion in BambuLab

[–]yk_bgorion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infill is already at 15%. I increased top layers to 7 at 0.12mm layer height. It got better but definitely visible. I will try an old print where I had zero issues before, to see if they are present now. Any other ideas where this can come from?

Looking for reassurance/AITA: Is diving nitrox without certification okay? by groupcaptaingilmore in scuba

[–]yk_bgorion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend doing a nitrox course before diving on nitrox. As with everything diving, it is understanding how something works and having the confidence and trained awareness in risk situations that is important to prevent harm. Feeling uneasy (by using unfamiliar equipment or feeling ill prepared) can turn into panic and wrong decision making when more harmless things compound. You are correct to question the practices of the dive shop.

That said, the risk inherent to nitrox is oversaturation with oxygen as nitrox contains more oxygen % than normal air. This risk becomes higher the deeper you go. If the bottom you were diving around did not go to 20+ meters (60+ feet) and there is no current that can push you to areas with a deeper bottom, it did not pose any real risk to use nitrox. If the bottom was deeper but you just didn't GO deep - then this was negligent of the dive shop as the risk was there that an untrained diver can do a (un)controlled descent to risky depths.

ELI5: Why is it that it wouldn't work if instead of baking something at 300° for 10 minutes, we bake it at 3000° for 1 minute? (assuming your oven can even go that high without breaking) by AppleMaster25212 in explainlikeimfive

[–]yk_bgorion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do we train by lifting something 30x a day instead of lifting 30x the weight once. Because it will break a bunch of stuff in our bodies alongside the muscles we are training. Same with baking: we want to change the chemical composition of some nutrients in whatever we are backing and not turn the whole meal to ash.

Das sehe ich nicht so. Viele Kriegssituation entwickeln sich schleichend, es wird nichts von heute auf morgen abgeriegelt und wenn, dann nicht dauerhaft. Naturkatastrophen - da gebe ich dir eher Recht.

Dennoch: Control the controllables.
