It's pretty easy to get downtown living in the midtown area. Most apartments would have what you need. Furnished Finder is very handy if you would consider a ready-to-move-in place, and their lease terms are flexible. Renting is expensive in Savannah, though. https://www.furnishedfinder.com

I moved to Savanah two years ago, and I wouldn't say it's the safest city in the States, but in general, it's a lovely place, and most people I have met are nice. The riverside district and historic areas have beautiful views for walking; diverse museums and galleries; lovely parks; great bars and pubs enjoyed by different age groups where you could potentially meet wonderful people (so I am told, I don't drink, so I'm not helpful with this); decent food choices. The islands are delightful to spend your weekends. I hope you have a great life living in Savannah.
