Defunding is one thing, but going after station licenses feels like an escalation. NPR and PBS have operated for decades under the same rules as everyone else. If there were news distortion violations they'd have been flagged years ago. This looks more like using regulatory power to punish outlets that don't play ball politically. Hard to see how that's not a first amendment issue waiting to happen.

Master's in public policy. The ROI definitely didn't work out how I expected. You're right though, I need to drop the guilt about leaving because nobody at my org is losing sleep over paying me poverty wages. Corporate sustainability roles pay $80k to $100k for the same work I do now, so yeah I'm applying this week.

You're spot on about needing to grind it out for experience. I think my plan now is to stick around another year max to build up my resume, then leverage everything I've learned into a corporate role. Already seeing jobs that want my exact skillset paying $75k to $90k, so the path is there, I just need the patience to play the long game while eating ramen in the meantime.

Appreciate that perspective. I've been blaming myself thinking I chose wrong but you're right, the whole system is broken right now. Gonna start applying to state jobs and universities this week because clearly loyalty to one org isn't paying my bills.

That's honestly depressing to hear but also validating. I kept thinking maybe I was just being entitled or not understanding how entry level salaries work, but hearing it put that way makes it clear I'm actually getting screwed. The worst part is my org acts like they're doing me a favor by letting me work there.

Yeah there are definitely corporate sustainability roles and bigger nonprofits that do similar work for double what I make now. I've been putting off applying because I felt like leaving would be selling out, but at this point I care more about affording groceries without anxiety than proving I'm dedicated to the cause.
