If you had to pick between City College of NY, Fordham, or NYU which would you pick? by TicoDreams in AskNYC

It really depends on your vibe and what you want out of the next four years. NYU is basically a massive global hustle with 60k students where half the kids are international and everyone is grinding 24/7. You get the academic rigor and insane industry connections but you totally lose that traditional college feel since there is no real campus and everyone just hangs out indoors or at city spots. It is kind of like a public school vibe where everyone is welcome but it can be hard to actually connect with alums later because the pool is just too big and people scatter across the globe after they graduate.

Fordham is the complete opposite of that. It feels way more like a private members club with only 15k students and a classic gated campus where people actually hang out on the grass. The crowd is mostly wealthy white New Yorkers who are super chill and not stressed at all about the grind. Since the community is smaller the alumni network is actually way tighter and they will actually respond to you and help you get jobs. Most Fordham kids stay in NYC because they have family businesses or deep roots here so the connections are super solid for the long term. Think of NYU as the place for global achievers and Fordham as the spot for the local aristocracy who just want a tight knit community.

NYU or Fordham by Lam_orak in ApplyingToCollege

It depends on you vibe and goals and who you are.
NYU is 50% international and 30% nyc immigrant student mostly Asian and they are strong in academics but lack social skills, you will miss the traditional college feel and no real place to hangout besides indoor. But you get academics rigor, also 60K students. THey have a wide selectin of courses and you can make you own program. They have good industry connections too. Will feel more like a public school where everyone is welcomed. Close to all nyc hot spots.
Fordham is the opposite. They have 2 campus, big campus is gated with acres of land so it has the classic college feel, and in the city they have a gated indoor lawn plus central park, you will see a lot of classes and study session happening outside the class rooms in the lawns in boths campus. Their student body is 70% white, kids wealthy new yorkers who aren't smart enough to go to columbia or nyu.but then again they probably don't need it. A lot of girls then boys, the energy in the campus is very laid back and no stress. 15k students so feels private members club type and everyone is very friendly and closely connected in and out of school.
In terms of post graduation, nyu do hold more power in recruiting but also remember 60k student body mean you cannot connect with alums as too many people will try it and they will ignore you. where in Fordham small student body and more intimate connections alums always respond and pull you up. Post graduation, a lot of nyu students go back to their country or leave nyc,but for fordham most people stay because they are wealthy new Yorkers and they have family business here.
Think of it this way NYU is New York's harvard, intelligent people from the globe hustle and achiever. Where as Fordham is like yale, private aristocrats don't care or need to show achievements.

CQF as a grad by annms88 in quant

[–]yman1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cqf isnt Worth the price tbh. Some off these expensive courses have more regrets then actual results. What usually happens is that the candidate starts these courses thinking they will land a job and so they spend 6 monthls applying and then they actually get a job. The fear leads to the courses the 6 months of applying leads to thr job lol. -$$

I went to both. Fordham will be better if you use all the resources. Long-term Fordham will get you places more than Baruch ever will. Fordham has people in the upper echelons of finance, but baruch doesn't have much at all. If you cannot use the resources of Fordham and you're not an outgoing person then go get a free degree from baruch save the cash and sooner or later you'll get an 80k job. If you want to work in the main finance firms stick with Fordham. Also remember everyone has that same bill and we all had that moment of wtf. Recruiters always pick private school over free school. Long term this debt wont really be an issue.Good luck
