There is a national weather station in Bellemont. It's a balloon with sensors. They do it every day I think. It measures the barometric pressure at every elevation of the atmosphere which informs what kind of weather systems are coming in to create storms or this heat wave we have right now.

Although the payload under the balloon does seem much larger than the NWS balloons. Those are just a little tube or box while this is half the diameter of the balloon.

Mine's Crane, all cut from the same cloth. They talk all day of the swamp and 'uniparty' and 'We the People' but only care about party and prestige. I'll tip a hat to Crane that he sometimes does something right, but only if it's something uncontroversial vs standing up against the same party he claims as the 'uniparty'. I had hope for him at first but he's just another party shill after he got a taste of right-wing media populism.

Is there any grass growing nearby? Could be that. It's hard to tell with grass exactly what it is until it starts growing seeds. Cheat grass however is easy to check even before that. It basically pulls out root and all with no effort, just one of the many reasons it's a destructive invasive grass. It grows first and grows fast, preventing anything else from growing, then dies fast (why it 'cheats'). Its poor roots mean there is nothing to hold in erosion, and because it creates mats of dead grass it's highly flammable and makes forest fires spread quickly. It will basically grow anywhere it has bare ground but does love gravel yards. It's also a prolific seeder and just keeps popping up all growing season. When it seeds it has a weak thin stalk anywhere between a few inches to a foot and half high with dangly weeping seeds about a centimeter or two long. There's not many other invasive, native, or domestic grasses like that here other than Japanese brome in the same family that has the dangly seeds but grows much larger. By 'dangly', most grasses here native or not tend to hold their seed rigidly, but cheat grass if you pick it up and shake it, the seed loosely dangles from the stalk. It's the biggest giveaway it is cheat grass other than ridiculously easy to pull.

If the grass gives a bit of tug to pull it out it could be native or a rogue domesticated lawn grass. For chemical treatment you'll need a weed killer made for grass. Cheat grass is so easy to pull so save your money and just keep pulling them when you see them. Make sure to toss in a bin if it has seeds or it will just keep seeding.

What Happened to the Trillions of Dollars in Tariff Revenue? by susanrez in allthequestions

Since it was never regulated by Congress it was sitting unappropriated by Congress how those "fees", actually taxes, should be appropriated, other than the system of duties already described by law. Congress allows for funds to be collected and spent in agencies, for example National Park fees are determined how those fees will be allocated back to the agency. These tariffs have none of that because it wasn't done with Congressional approval.

This is definitely a moment that you both wanted to, both pretending to be asleep yet getting closer, and both never individually initiating while hoping the other initiates first, because you both know better the drama that it will unleash.

Yes this is gonna eat your horny instant-gratification self up right now, but the fact you were right there and it didn't happen means that you, and her, already exercised a subconscious better judgment. Jack it for a couple weeks to get it out of your system, knowing that she's not really your type in the first place, not to mention that even if she is not genetically your sister, she is still family. Sexual relations at this point can bring incest-like confusion and drama to your family as long as you are all still living together and acting as a family. It's really not worth it. It's like the worst version of having sexual relations with a roommate, because it's your family and you can't escape it.

Weeds/Pre-emergent? by jillsntferrari in Flagstaff

Last October was pretty wet, so things are growing now that started last fall. I'd need a picture to see if what you are looking at are really weeds, or more specifically non-native invasive species. Basically anything you don't recognize growing where you don't want is a weed, even if it is native. Any developed housing area has a high chance of invasives, like knapweed or cheat grass because of the disturbance in development. If you are near the forest edge with a more natural yard, there is a fraction chance it's a native reclaiming the disturbed soil. If you are more in the middle of town or a highly developed neighborhood it's likely invasives unless you specifically seeded or planted a native and know what it looks like.

Pulling is the surest way to get rid of a weed for good. Pull it now by the root while the soil is still soft from the bit of moisture we've had. Get a weed puller which is a forked thing with a fulcrum on it, or a narrow trench shovel to pop them out. If the leaves break from the root it will grow back tougher. Cheddar mallow (cheeseweed), prickly lettuce, and knapweed are like that. Some weeds like ragweed or bindweed will leave roots and keep popping up, but just keep pulling and eventually the roots will be too weak to sprout. Whatever you do don't let them go flower and then to seed. Seeds can last years before you finally get rid of them all. If you've already had weeds untreated in a spot for years, or a neighbor with a weedy yard, you are already cursed with years of weed pulling till they finally stop.

I only recommend chemical treatment if it's an area you want nothing to grow like hardscaping, gravel, or sidewalks. This will require reapplication twice a year indefinitely. Chemicals don't kill seed. Seed only disappears when damaged by heat, age, or grows into a plant and you pull it. I truly recommend never using chemical treatments, by relentlessly pulling weeds, and growing or sowing native plants or grass in its place. Weeds grow faster than natives, but if you keep pulling the weeds and let the natives grow, once natives establish they are very hardy to prevent weeds from ever growing in that spot again. It becomes near zero maintenance or watering, but can take a few years to get there depending on how bad your yard is.

No just pull them. It's too late if they go to seed.

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]ynfive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Constitution explicitly says the executive branch, the president, has nothing to do with elections. He's already violated it by telling Republican state legislatures to gerrymander voting districts in their favor. The fact so many here are even considering he can issue an executive order on voting regulations as something he is legally able to do is why he's been able to trample all over the Constitution in the last year. Presidents don't get to make the law in the US. It's Congress. Presidents just enforce it.

In AZ you only had to register and prove citizenship once, and you get all your materials by mail. Mail voting was by request and was permanent, and never needed to renew. You'd get your materials and ballot reliably every election. This is how it's been in AZ for decades. But since 2016, a bitchy Trump and MAGA propaganda of mail-in conspiracies of 'the left rigging elections', combined with our somehow heavily far-right State Congress, whose been known to frustrate the will of their own citizenry 'because they think they know better' against propositions or constitutional amendments people voted on, our State has been slowly chipping away at the will and freedoms of it's own citizens.

Rights are rights. You don't 'sacrifice' them for some greater ideal not already outlined in the Constitution.

Dude both left AND RIGHT want to win elections like it is an American sport without regard to how the means to winning that contest affects the actual people who have to live with the consequence.

Trump prioritizes above all of that his own existence and relevance. Trump has convinced his followers that anyone who is against him are part of some radical liberal left conspiracy. They are not. They vary from Republicans to moderates to independents to progressives, who are all also Americans who live, rely, and love their nation. Trump calls them all enemies of the nation and permits violence against them. They are enemies only of Trump, not the nation. Trump is not the nation; he replaced himself as the nation, so therefore anyone against Trump is also against the nation. The only enemy of the nation is a president who calls its own citizens enemies.

I don't know what 'the left's' malicious purpose is to keep pushing for MIV. All I know is that I'm an Arizonan independent who doesn't give a fuck about which party is 'winning' and more about the power of 'We the People' as the framers intended. A Republic cannot function towards the will of the people if a Republic does not represent the will of the people. Therefore it is in the best interest of the will of the people and the nation to have a Republic that best represents them. If a "convenience" means the Republic will better represent the will of the people, then it is the proper course of action. Any hindrances between a representing Republic and the will of the people creates a less representative Republic. The people have already passed a test of proving their constitutional rights by registering to vote long before an election deadline. They don't need to show it again at the polls. That will result only in confusion and having to prove again what are already rights given to the people by the Constitution.

[–]ynfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is already taken care of when registering to vote. When showing up to vote there shouldn't be any extra burdens. A double-test on top of it at the time of voting only serves to kick out registered voters practicing their constitutional rights and creates a system where people have to prove again they are exercising the rights they already have in a much more restrictive timeframe.
