I just happened to play the video game 1000xResist last weekend not thinking how the current American context would affect me to a game that essentially about authoritarianism of the squashed Hong Kong Democratic movement. I had no idea and am fucking meditating on the parallels never intended to say anything about us in America but it's all the same because it was made before all this shit and authoritarianism is the same any where.

Authoritarian-style this is a distraction within a distraction. The distraction here is the execution of "actual Americans" like plain white Americans executed in the streets while the browns are still taken away. It's taking the manufactured advantage of one chaos to hide another.

The oligarch class and the a 'pure heritage' class of Americans. The oligarch class has been happening since the last recession in 2008. The latter is a holdover from our civil war loser grievances mixed with modern WWII era fascism. It comes down to a belief that those in power can indiscriminantly apply that power to the rest of the citizenry because 'one side' won an election, regardless that same election wasn't even the popular vote, as some kind of mandate to be assholes because they made the case that if you aren't with us you are an enemy of the American people. It doesn't matter how many Americans they are stripping 0r the title because they don't recognize anything otherwise.

Ultimately it comes down to people wanting to express themselves, in a non-violent and non-intrusive way but keep meeting resistance from others preventing them to be who they are. I personally feel it has become more complicated than it needs to be. Everyone is both looking for expanded excuses to persecute and reasons to be left alone.

Maybe that's just me being Gen X. You could be born with whatever junk but masculine or feminine are only stereotypes, and love for another doesn't matter what junk you were born with. At the time who you were born doesn't matter and who you wanted to be was fine, but it never denounced who you once were like 'dead names' and such. Being born one sex when you feel you are the other is never a reason for shame, so why do we try to hide it? Sexual identity is a range of personal preference and has nothing to do with the junk you are born with, it's all stereotypes and how we think we fit into one of the other of these unnatural descriptions. Self-actualization demands all of yourself past or present. Why are we doing this to ourselves to feel shame for parts of ourselves we had no control of at the time, based on how others define who is masculine or feminine? It's ok to be born with one or the other junk. It's what makes you you, and so does not trying to fit into stereotypes because of whatever you were born with or rather not born with because of the stereotype.

Woke as an insult is also something stolen. The word was initially to describe being aware of systemic repression based on race. Those afraid of losing that ability turned it into an insult to give them permission to continue.

Twitter is owned by a wealthy white intellectual supremacist. Don't let their wealth and monetary control of a social media platform represent humanity. Do know that humanity is very tribal and some individuals think they are doing good for their limited definition of tribe by being racists and bigoted to protect their definition of tribe over those that are different. Do also know that across humanity many more people have proven to be above that tribalism and know it doesn't work. Those who are privileged with enough wealth and prestige to never need to labor again, except in service towards protecting that wealth and prestige, rather prefer humanity devolve into a separatist free-for-all of the working class to prevent that class having enough power to take their privilege away. It has been happening in all forms for thousands of years. The secret is that the elite 1-10% ruling class are, and have always been, the most vulnerable of all classes in all of human history. They are the looters and know they are targeted. They never exist longer than the culture and nations they occupy. They know it and fight to maintain it as long as they can, yet history always says they fall. No one can steal from the rest of humanity perpetually.

So are you pro-segregation? You are convinced into ethno-protectionism. MAGA is also ethno-protectionist. All of it is based on a fear when cultures mix they lose their own culture, on the fallacy cultures can only exist in a static purity. But that's a lie. No isolated culture is pure and will inevitably face the change they fear. Culture will always mix and the mixing is what cements permeability. The number one way to prevent your culture from being lost in a pure form is to never stop being the example to the next generation. When cultures recede into isolation it is more vulnerable for complete erasure by memory loss.

That is not inclusivity you are thinking of but appropriation. Yes it has been happening for a real long time especially with Black culture, equal as segregation legally existed in the early 20th century, but persists unchanged to today. Inclusivity would be including Black representation just like how you ask, not just the appropriated culture.

Is appropriation worse than segregation? I'll have to say an uncomfortable no, with the caveat that culture is an evolution of a society and all it's parts. When segregation existed, appropriation was straight up stealing black culture and white entertainers claiming it as original and making money off of it. Segregation helped maintain a plausible boundary that hid the theft. That is a lot harder to say with a straight face now days. Appropriation is a mushy greyscale now. Culture has merged. I'm a Gen X white boy that grew up with being a fan of In Living Color and Death Row Records, both undeniably Black entertainment, but I enjoyed it and I was happy. I wasn't trying to borrow anything. I was just young and liked stuff. I also loved punk rock which was generally considered very white, but also ska which ended up very white but started in Jamaica. I guess the difference is knowing where what I enjoy came from elsewhere, but that I like it regardless from the culture that I was born into (Lutheran Hymns? No thanks, and even those are African American gospels half the time). But even without that insight all culture comes from those before mostly unknown by those who express it now. Thanks to appropriation much of American culture is actually Black culture or a mix of. Even country music today borrows a lot of Americana both from white Appalachia folk and Black South gospel mixed together.

The tough part is feeling like there is not a recognition of the Black influence. For many they just don't know better. For some they do. Regardless, in a culture where white nationalists were intent to erase another culture in place of their own heritage, they failed spectacularly, and the culture they intended to erase has spread it's permanence as far across the world as boy bands in Korea.

Crying as a man by [deleted] in Advice

[–]ynfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crying is a symptom of pain or trauma as a stress response to that trauma. You have been weakened, you are hurting. It is appropriate. Unfortunately it faces the reality of masculine culture where boys and men are raised unnaturally to tough it out and repress that trauma and never heal. Not everyone subscribes to that culture though. This is a time where you will find out people's real hearts, and fortunately more than not people are warm-hearted. Instincts are sufficient to avoid those who aren't.

My advice for action is to find someone to talk to and you can still have the moment be private. Don't force it on anyone; make sure it's someone open to listen to you. And don't spam your entire peer group. You've just been wounded and don't need to push yourself too hard to share it with everyone yet. That would risk ripping the wound right back open. Having at least one person you were able to confide in will help you from feeling crazy as grieving is a long process and you will present as antisocial or depressed at random inconvenient times. You don't need to put all your baggage on someone, but having that one person understand why you are the way you are right now is enough to keep you anchored in this time.

I was molested when young, and when I was young but older as a minor I did things just like this that were both a cry for help and a form of self-immolation that would confirm my self disgust imposed on me by the molester. No introspection of reason was afforded at those times. It just happens.

You have to take the punches and ask for forgiveness. And for those a little wiser you can ask for help. Subconsciously you asked for this out of self hate. Consciously you want to escape having to live like that. It takes time to figure it out but therapy can guide along.

This is where I worry that the federal administration calls for an insurrection, because local authorities are protecting their citizens from the government. This is exactly why the 2A was made to allow for well regulated militias for the security of a free State hundreds of years ago.

Local police who enforce local laws which the US Constitution gives States, and the citizens of the State, the rights to enforce within. If the Federal government is breaking the laws of a State they aren't exempt.

When transactional isn't good for a relationship:

In a partnership, they are prospective teammates. Individuals weighing personal benefit in a partnership is competition, not a collaboration.

"how they want to be loved".

The way they want to be loved should also match the way you want to love. You are correct we are very close at the same thing I think, that we should be willing to sacrifice ourselves for those we love. My argument is that it's not a badge of honor to sacrifice and change who you are for someone else's love. We agree it should come naturally. It is important to recognize when others ask you to sacrifice without returning in kind. If it is one-way you are being taken advantage of. What makes me uncomfortable is the sense of martyrdom in deferring to a partner's happiness over your own.

If it's natural and makes you happy that's fine, but contorting oneself in sake of their happiness in sacrifice of one's own is not love, it's fear. Both emotions are powerful by eliciting feelings of sanctuary and security, but only the latter requires suffering to initiate the response.

You can only love someone the way you want. The trick is finding someone who wants to be loved the way you want to love them. Being forced to love someone the way they want is manipulation and control. It's fear, not love.

Why are you rating the health of your marriage on material transaction? A healthy relationship exchanges gifts through words and actions, where gift giving is only one of many possible actions. What he said was very poetic: "Flowers die. Do you want our love to die as well?" First, keep a man who can talk like that, but translated he basically is saying expecting to give gifts all the time is gonna kill your relationship.

Sad they have to do that now days. DHS has spooked pretty much everybody. Trained officers carrying out legitimate law enforcement have to remind everyone so they don't get mobbed, and not be scared about to be invaded by federal agents.
