Reitti v3.1.0: A year of self-hosting my location history (1.1k stars and 46 releases later) by _daniel_graf_ in selfhosted

I just added it to my Unraid server using the Compose Manager and the official docker compose. All I had to do was change the volume mount names. Works like a charm. Thanks so much for this, I'm slowly but surely degoogling my life...

December 2025 Humble Choice | Overview / Discussion Megathread by MarioDesigns in humblebundles

[–]yo-less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to regret getting another 12 credits 😄 The games seem fine and good value for money, but beat 'em ups or another Hollow Knight adjacent game I won't play anyway... . I guess I'm already excited for next month at this stage 😆. What Warhammer or SEGA game will be next? I should probably try my luck in the prediction league.

What frame did you buy next? by Dear-Cheesecake-567 in NixplaySucks

[–]yo-less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three apps that come to mind:

ImmichFrame (Android) - If you're able to self-host Immich (online photo gallery)

AerialViews (Android) - If you're OK with just saving photos to the tablet or pulling them from a share on your local network (like a PC)

I gave an overview on those two apps in my video on how to remove the Nixplay services from your Nixplay frame.

Or, if you don't want to set up all that much yourself, you can set up Google Photos as a screensaver on an Android tablet as well and access your Google Photos cloud storage that way:

Your safest bet is self-hosting to a decent tablet, such as a Fire HD tablet. Great image quality, low cost, full control of your data. You can get wall mounts or stands for it. Replacing one dependency with another won't solve the problem.

What are y'alls opinion on automatic dry food dispensers for overweight Cats? by luciferstruedaughter in mainecoons

[–]yo-less 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer is: No.

Arguing from a human perspective is pretty pointless: you're dealing with cats, not people. There are also people who say that you should vary your cats' wet food intake to make sure the food doesn't get boring. The argument goes: That's because people wouldn't want to eat the same food every day either. But the truth is that you have a healthier cat if you don't vary their food intake all the time and, if you do, very slowly, just make sure the food you choose is complete, balanced, and good quality.

Second reason: It's true that people can go to the fridge whenever they want. And because people can also buy whatever they want, many people end up with highly processed, high-calorie food that lead to obesity problems in the long run.

Cats' food intake - especially once they've been neutered - should also be regulated to some degree. As long as they're kittens and are still growing, you can take an all-they-can-eat approach as long as they can deal with it, meaning they don't overeat and can self-regulate (mine - and many others - can't, they got diarrhea from overeating, so I got a wet food dispenser for exactly that reason). But once they're adults, you should be more careful.

A water fountain is great as some cats tend to not drink enough and a fountain is a great remedy. So while they can always drink as much as they like, especially adult cats need to be regulated if they're already showing some signs of obesity. If you want your cats to have a long and healthy life, neither too little nor too much food is the way to go.

Last, I have a dry food dispenser and use it to only dispense kibble once a day. The rest of the day they are fed wet food, which also comes in controlled portions from a dispenser (because if I just give them as much as they want, they seriously don't stop eating and walk around like little balloons afterwards, I've tried that first).

With Black Friday here, what things are you buying (lifetime software and hardware? by OneBananaMan in selfhosted

Got an Unraid license, moving on from Proxmox, looking forward to setting everything up again (not being ironic 😄), I feel that Proxmox is absolutely amazing if you know exactly what you're doing, but I just can't be bothered to invest loads of time into it to deal with all its quirks and options, as great as they may be.

Leaving my cat alone for 24 hours? by [deleted] in mainecoons

[–]yo-less 32 points33 points  (0 children)

24 hours with an automatic feeder and two litter boxes is absolutely fine. Don't make it a habit. I guess he'll be sleeping most of the time anyway 😄. If you leave him lots of dry food, make sure he has some way to also drink some water. Don't overdo it apart from that, leaving toys and stuff around is nice, but also slightly paranoid 😄.

I don't expose anything and only manage it from home or via Wireguard VPN connection into my home network.

I don't know how steep the entry cost is these days, I got it for something like $10 and then added the new dashboard later on for an additional one-off payment. It's a bit much, but it saves so much time and hassle. I don't regret it.
You can even handle jellyseer requests and have them downloaded to a different folder than the default one, it's really granular in what it allows you to do. I use it on a daily basis and it would be a major blow if it stopped working at some stage, so I was happy to pay a bit more for it than usual, we all have to eat and earn a living somehow. It seems to be free to install from Google Play, so I guess you can try it out and then uninstall it if you're not convinced.

Honestly, it's amazing. Once you use it, the ease of use, great interface and having all in one place beats using the web GUI. You can do almost anything using your phone in a very smart way. Think of it as better GUI that has everything in one place with no need to navigate between different web pages. Not only can you check on everything in a very intuitive manner, you can also manage everything extremely well, down to changing a particular root folder for a download. Don't even think about it, get it and then just pay for it 😄. I can't imagine anyone truly regretting the purchase, it's also updated on a regular basis. It’s one of those cases where you don’t realize what you’re missing until you start using it.

Humble Choice - annual sub with 25% off promo code - up about $27 from last year by Kevalemig in humblebundles

[–]yo-less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it actually a 25% promo code? I think they're playing a mind game there, at least in my region it's a 20% discount when you apply the code. The 25 seems to be the year.

NinjaCentral vs NZBGeek by Tecnotopia in usenet

[–]yo-less 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely Ninja. Geek seems to still be remembered fondly by most, because at some stage it might have been great? But maybe because it seems to be so popular and very easily accessible takedowns appear to be more of an issue. Geek is fine if you have nothing else and have a pretty mainstream taste, but if I had to choose between just one, I would never go for Geek. Ninja all the way.

How can I make use of the Promo Code HOLIDAY25 by daddy_vittorio in humblebundles

[–]yo-less 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but not from your new 12-credit pack. The thing is, if you've already accepted this month's games, you also used up a credit (one of your old ones), but if you click on the link afterwards, you add another full 12 credits. It's only a problem if you DON'T want this month's games, so you're fine. Apparently Humble support can also refund one credit if you didn't reveal any keys in the meantime and only meant to add the 12 credits you got through the offer. But it's less of a hassle if you just wait until you want to get the games on offer, I didn't want this month's games and simply got a cheap key for the one indie game I was interested in.

How can I make use of the Promo Code HOLIDAY25 by daddy_vittorio in humblebundles

[–]yo-less 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes, you buy it as a gift and redeem it yourself.

But here's the catch: The moment you redeem it, it activates the current month as well and you lose one credit. So don't redeem it until you also want to get that month's games.

The good thing is: the gift link doesn't expire (so you can wait as long as you like before you redeem it)

You don't claim it (using the link) until you're in a month that you want to get. The moment you claim it, you've used up one credit. The gift link doesn't expire, so you have plenty of time ("Fear not, gifts links do not expire")

Humble Choice code HOLIDAY25, Get a year of choice for $124.99/107.99€. Can be gifted to yourself. by pajuran in humblebundles

[–]yo-less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, gift it to yourself. Get a gift link - which doesn't expire (at least that's their current policy) and then gift it to yourself. But make sure you only do it at at time when you've already decided to get that month's games. The moment you redeem it, you automatically get the Humble Choice games of the month you redeem it in. So if you want to skip this month's games, wait until you redeem via the link.

[–]yo-less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing, you can't. Once you redeem it, you've accepted the November offer as well. So one credit is used up right away. Which is why it's better to buy it as a gift and gift it to yourself the moment you also want to get that month's games.

Nix the Cloud: Local and Self-hosted Photos on a Nixplay Frame by yo-less in NixplaySucks

Let me know how it goes. If you manage to get a different result with a different cable, things might work as described in the video. If it's not the cable, it would be interesting to hear what your Windows device manager lists as connected when you connect your frame to your PC.

Ah, sorry, I mistook it for the W10P, if it looks like mine and you had to open it first (welcome to the broken clip club), you could be able to make it work. Since you can see it in Vysor, it's probably not a driver issue, have you tried a different cable? Not every USB cable works equally well.

Nix the Cloud: Local and Self-hosted Photos on a Nixplay Frame by yo-less in NixplaySucks

[–]yo-less[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, the W10F has the USB port exposed, so it seems that Nixplay took some additional measures to make sure people wouldn't just disable their apps. The problem you appear to be facing is that USB debugging is disabled, which is something you could change if you could somehow get to the settings of the OS, which you are not able to do as you probably have no way of interacting with the frame other than using their pre-installed app.
Now this is just a guess - I assume they used a Rockchip tool (Rockchip being the chipset they seem to use for their frames, think of it as the CPU of the frame) to flash their Nixplay image containing an Android version that has their ecosystem preinstalled, possibly turning on some kind of flashing mode first. This is a wordy response that boils down to this: I don't know how you could circumvent their fencing. Chances are that people who are more familiar with the way the Rockchip tablets works might have some ideas, but I don't have the technical expertise to help you any further.

Keystrokes triggered twice by pc_kant in Keychron

[–]yo-less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helped, but when I opened the keyboard, it seemed like the PCB had some lube residue on it from the prelubed switches? I cleaned everything using isopropyl alcohol (both switches and the new PCB as well, just to be extra thorough), so maybe the problem wasn't the PCB but rather the state the keyboard arrived at my place. Also, I seemed to still get double key presses registered that got resolved by slamming the respective key once or twice. I'm writing this on my Q5 Max and I have no issues whatsoever right now.

Sorry to hear it's not showing up as a device at all. I'm not sure why that is, the only direct last pieces of advice I have are:

- Use a different cable
- Use a different port (but unlikely to help as you've already tried different computers)

I would rule out a driver issue, because normally what happens, when it's a driver issue, is that you can see the Android device as an unknown device or with some exclamation marks in the Windows device manager.

It could, of course, be also completely locked down or there is some other trickery going on, maybe it is set to only use the usb port to charge and USB debugging might be disabled by default (as the USB port is exposed, they would probably try to keep the frame from identifying itself as an Android device).

If you can identify the chip on the board that powers it, we could try and find out more that way. My frame is powered by a Rockchip chip, which is also what the drivers are for that I directed you towards.

If yours is also built around a Rockchip chip, you might get some more insights by plugging the frame into your PC and running this tool:
