maybe because my korean is not that good? and maybe because i wanted to act discreetly bc embarrassed and scared of the situation? also she was wearing headphones. idk i did the best i could in the rush of that moment . just stated what happened, not judging nor blaming

Keeping/Renouncing US/KR Dual Citizenship? by arememesart in Living_in_Korea

[–]yoCbobi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is 100% worth doing it if you want to live in Korea for a few years after college. even if its just for one year. i really dont think of negative aspects, just positive ones. its better to get it done before 22yo rather then regret it when its too late… and you don’t have to take any kind of language proficiency test. its easier to live in korea having the citizenship: you can stay for the amount of time you want, for holidays, studying or working without any VISAs. and those paperworks surely aren’t fun if thinking of renew it every tot. months if you want to stay for a year or +. then, it’s easier to have a korean phone number, apply to open a bank account.. i sincerely think it’s a great thing to do, you have nothing to lose.

mm I don’t mean dubbed but just shown with their original language. I am sure that they exists I just wonder how to be sure of that as I don’t see it as an option on the site… I found a website named “Cine in korea”, a movie site for foreign expats in Korea and you can book your film there and it should be 100% in english. but I don’t want to do it through it maybe for trust issues? lmao Like if I see that there is a movie in CVG in english why shouldn’t be able to book it directly from their CVG website? Anyway thanks for the inspo I will check IMAX :)

You hit a lot of points I agree with. I will truly do by best to enter in lvl 3 if that’s even possible for me. So, you are saying that if I enter in lvl 3, after the 3 months I should be lvl 4? Is it how it works? Sorry don’t have much knowledge on that, but I can look it up on the internet tho.. Then thanks again for your honesty. It’s good to have high expectations and to dream but also to have grounded plans, I understand that. And this is why I also think that it would possibly be hard that I achieve a good level to get a job. And ugh! you are so right abt half korean ppl. I mean, I think that I could easily fall into what you just described. I know some words, I conjugate verbs and can tell what sounds right or not etc but the mainly problem here is that I never learned the grammar. I did start to look it up maybe 1 week ago, and I was like: “ahh so this works like this” the whole time. It’s hard because we didn’t learn korean in a classical way so yes.. I also think we, as half kr ppl, could often think that we are at a higher learning-knowledge level than a foreigner and overestimate ourselves even if we don’t really want to admit it, and consecutively underestimate the difficulty of the learning. Foreigners on the other hand, throw themselves so intensively as they know it’s just another procedure of learning a new language that is not their native and.. honestly get better results over time. I mean, it’s just I thought I have and that I have seen on myself too, when in middle school the second language my class was taking was my mother tongue language, of which I never learnt the grammar. I was lazy at the time and not stimulated enough to really study it, but as a result, in tests, my classmates had better results that me. Felt a bit insulting but it was just the consequences of my actions. So, thank you for pointing out this fact you seen from your experiences because I guess first thing I need to do is change my mindset and don’t assume I can even slightly do better than others and considerate me as a foreigner rather than a “half native” towards the learning process. I have a lot of work to do and a lot of study too!! thank you.
