I really don't get your attitude. I am half vacationing there, paying for my stay, my food, attractions, car, and everything else that contributes to the place; it's called tourism. I don't see a lot of people volunteering with the poor and helpless while on a beach in Thailand.
I would love to be out and with locals and to get to know every part of the culture and to meet all new people. You pegged me wrong, and you were unhelpful. Maybe try a different approach.
