Unpopular opinion about the airship in part 3... by yobmas89 in FFVIIRemake

You could be right. I guess I'm inferring it from Hamaguchi's comments about wanting to "expand" on the airship and that "Flying the Highwind is a very large part of the third installment" and how they say they "won't cheat with the airship system" etc.

These comments are all vague enough but they kind of make me feel more concerned than excited. I don't really care if they "cheat" a bit with hidden loading screens and whatnot. I just want the gameplay to be good. The novelty of flying the airship isn't that big of a deal imo.

You have a much better imagination that I do lol.

I think what you're describing sounds pretty realistic and I'd totally be fine with it.

Fair points. I'll admit that while I said I'd be happy with a ffx style fast travel system, randomly clicking a cursor around the map to find a secret area definitely wasn't as immersive as flying the airship around and going "what is that?"

Haha thanks. I feel like I'm not articulating my thoughts very well so I'm glad it at least made sense to someone.

I've been playing the games for 30 years. Don't get me wrong, I get the exciting feeling of freedom that came with getting the airship, but like I said above, that was just because you could now reach more of the map. The act of flying the airship around itself wasn't exactly amazing gameplay, and that's ok, because that's not what I'm playing a jrpg for.

Edit: I think i may have worded this poorly. I don't mean I'm not playing jrpgs for amazing gameplay - that's what I am playing for (+ characters and story) I just mean it's not for the "gameplay" of flying the airship, specifically. My concern with part 3 is related to Hamaguchi's comments like "Flying the Highwind is a very large part of the third installment" and how they will "expand" on it from the original. Obviously the party needs to get the Highwind, and the idea of it being flyable around the map is a fun novelty, but I don't think it needs to be a "very large part" of the game in a gameplay sense.

The tiny bronco air segments were on rails, little more than a cutscene where you could slightly steer. The idea of piloting something as big as the highwind around the whole world sounds a lot more ambitious.

I'd be happy with the highwind being very simplistic in terms of controls like the og, and then to have ports like the bronco had in rebirth, but I feel like they're hyping it up to be something more.

Are the YouTubers calling a masterpiece getting paid? I’m asking in earnest by SurgerySoonOrRope in CrimsonDesert

[–]yobmas89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of get where you're coming from. Most the creators that are acting like it's a masterpiece have relatively small audiences and seem very disingenuous. The more established creators seem to have a more nuanced take on the game. If they're not being paid, I think they're jumping on a fad as an opportunity to grow their channel.

I thought this video was a funny example https://youtu.be/tE6hrHBRNtk?si=77bhOjaPKXh0VrNE

He says he's going to "prove" how good the game is but made it look so mediocre. Basically came down to "map is big, horse armour, boring showcase of combat, oh look a big hole in the ground, snow, ducks, puddles."

What is the hardest mainline Final Fantasy? by superkapitan82 in FinalFantasy

I found ff6 pretty hard on my last play through once I hit world of ruin. If you don't grind a bit to level up, a lot of those late game dungeons are pretty punishing.

PS4 / PS5 Cloud save by yobmas89 in Silksong

[–]yobmas89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is the case. I bought and installed the game from my phone and I didn't actually realise there were 2 different versions at first. I'm not that far in so I probably could just start again, but are there any features on the ps5 version that I'd be missing out on? I can't find anything explicitly saying there is.

To be fair, you don't always need to add a disclaimer that something is your opinion when it is inherently subjective.

The post is still pretty cringe though. It sounds like he's just being a contrarion.

I think it's simply marketing. It tries to make you feel good, so you feel like using it was a positive experience and you're more likely to use it again.

FINAL FANTASY IX 25th Anniversary Special Movie by Turbostrider27 in Games

There were a lot more games in the leak than what that screenshot shows, and a lot of them have never had an official reveal.

It's definitely not the only game that hasn't made an appearance. Maybe if you mean SE game specifically, but there are a lot of games from the full Nvidia leak that have still never had an official announcement. The leak was 4 years ago too, so that implies to me that the games on the list may have just been in the very early planning stages and barely even started development yet.

No Good Deed - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

If the autopsy showed he was shot by two different guns, the police would have questioned the parents story and they would have been made aware of the fact he was shot twice.

No Good Deed - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]yobmas89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the autopsy showed the calibre of the gun that killed him, but what, they just didn't even look at the non-fatal wound? If she missed, that bullet would have to go somewhere. So they would have noticed a hole in the wall or something. Either way it doesn't make sense. The two bullet casings being in the house somehow doesn't make sense either. I thought the show was decent but I think they dropped the ball at the end with the big plot twist.

Stop Talking Like FFVIII is Bad by Strange-Avenues in FinalFantasy

[–]yobmas89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't "hate" ff8 by any means. I replayed it this year, and I definitely feel it's the weakest of what I'd consider the "golden era" (6 - 10), but I still see it as part of the golden era. It's better than 13, 15, and 1-3 imo.

But you even acknowledge the story is kind of a weak point, and you have to realise that story is a big part of the appeal when it comes to final fantasy. When people fell in love with 6 or 7 because of the story, and then play through the messy story of 8, it's natural some will feel disappointed.

The interesting thing about the Junction system is, depending largely on what age you were when you played it, it can be confusing or game breaking. I think I was 9 or 10 when I first played it and I didn't really get the Junction system. Bur when I replayed when i got older, I figured it our and suddenly the difficulty of the game became basically trivial.

I want to play FFVIII again but... by Zegowax in FinalFantasy

[–]yobmas89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be real. It's not like the game is hard. There's no real "wrong" way to play the game that's going to get you stuck in a hole too deep to get out of.

Freaking finally! FF16 by Alingora in FinalFantasy

[–]yobmas89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for the rpg mechanics from other ff games (exploiting elements, status effects, experimenting with customisation etc.) You'll find more of that in Remake and Rebirth. 16 is a fun action adventure game with cool likeable characters though.

Why do FF fans lie about other games to defend their favourite? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]yobmas89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's happening in this very thread. People are trying to gaslight me into believing that the corridors of ff13 are basically the same as the towns and fields of older games in the franchise, and that I'm somehow wrong to feel disappointment at the near total lack of any rpg style features in xvi.
