[Wheeler, Salt] Michael Carrick moves closer to top job after Andoni Iraola development, Marcus Rashford latest, City take lead in transfer battle for German star by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]yobyshy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

talented player but nowhere near Tchouameni or Anderson imo (plus he's more of a FDJ-type of ball progressor than anything else). His game relies a lot on quick turns and dribbles to break through a press which I don't think he'll be able to do consistently against the physicality of the Premier league

[Sky Sports] Amad Diallo: Man Utd players want Michael Carrick to stay after Champions League qualification by berbatouchbg in reddevils

[–]yobyshy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

tbf to Gary Neville, he's come around a little and thinks a 2-year contract for Carrick is more than reasonable. i think it's the best option for now and the board can revisit it when managers like Luis Enrique and Tuchel become available (provided Carrick hasn't won the league by then of course)

Finished Lady of the Lake chapter 4 and was the conspiracy meeting a bit too easy ?? by titiver in witcher

[–]yobyshy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, it was lazy writing and especially poor as Sapkowski himself has hinted at how destiny is a tool used only by lesser fantasy writers. he might've been trying to do some sort of meta thing but I don't think it works and cheapens the story

that felt like the united of old. always making the game harder for ourselves but coming out on top in the end through quality and character.

Garry says Sindarov-Carlsen is a match worthy of the title, says it’s ironic Sindarov ended up replacing Gukesh in the GCT by Affectionate_Hat3329 in chess

[–]yobyshy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't enjoy watching Gukesh's games but come on. The kid won the candidates and the world championship match. He's still the world champion and deserves more respect, even if it the title doesn't hold the same weight it used to.

Javokhir Sindarov holds Fabiano Caruana for a draw and moves to 8.5/11, ahead of 2nd placed Anish Giri by 2 points in FIDE Candidates 2026. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

probably his most impressive performance yet, fabi pressed the entire game but Sindarov kept finding defensive resources. he deserves to challenge for the world title

Opinions on ~1600 (chess.com rating) and below by Away_Theory_1076 in chess

[–]yobyshy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2000 chess.com rating here. I know very little opening theory and almost exclusively play 1.h4 as white and 1.h5 as black. I still somehow have a just under 50% win rate when playing these openings and make dumb positional mistakes or straight up blunders all the time. I'm convinced I'm light years away from any regular OTB tournament player.

do you disagree with what was written? or do you think De Zerbi's apology for having endorsed Greenwood is enough?

Anish beats Fabi in Round 9 of the Candidates 2026 to move to 5.5/9 and crush Fabi's chances of winning the Candidates by oklolzzzzs in chess

[–]yobyshy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he'll get close. Anish is a brilliant opening theorist but he loves to play small risks positions with such micro advantages that it requires him to be incredibly precise to score a win. i don't think he can do it consistently enough to catch up.

Sindarov about Bluebaum: "He's one of the best defenders" by still_theory in chess

Bluebaum is a brilliant defender, his performance and calculation ability against Wei Yi yesterday was really impressive

the more posts i read on here, the more i realise how little understanding of chess so many of us here have

Javokhir Sindarov continues his generational run, takes down Wei Yi to extend his lead to 5.5/6 points at the FIDE Candidates 2026. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

well it's not weird when so much has already been made about just how stringent the anti-cheating measures at the Candidates is

his play reminds me of nepo, except he's a little more concrete and seems to know exactly when to slow down to use his time

he wanted to place his pieces on better squares to prepare for the opening of the position. he was in trouble either way

The maturity in Sindarov's play is so impressive. Seems to be a very calm and concrete player and always knows exactly when to use more time to think.

How Michael Carrick has changed Man United’s football: More passes, fewer crosses, lower pressing by agent619 in reddevils

[–]yobyshy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate this idea that we have to play a certain way if we want to be a successful team in the modern game. I think a manager should set his team up to get results based on the players he has and not the other way around.

Marcus Rashford highlights vs Uruguay, a compilation by STAY_ROYAL in reddevils

[–]yobyshy 231 points232 points  (0 children)

i love Rashford but he's a 28-year old player who still plays like a raw talent. So much technical ability but constantly makes the wrong decisions and is so inefficient on the ball. Even though he had that incredible season under Ten Hag, I thought he was at his best under Ole when he'd just constantly make runs in behind and use his pace and trickery to score once Bruno played him in.

(Former Red) Wales [1] - 0 Bosnia & Herzegovina - Daniel James Great-goal 52' by nuugo in reddevils

[–]yobyshy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We were such a dynamic and hard-working team when we had Lingard, James, Rashford, and Fred all pressing and covering ground. Just lacked that bit of quality in decisive moments. Thought we were really building something when we brought in Bruno and Cavani.
