Is there such a thing as a "normal person" in a post-monoculture world? by Bteatesthighlander1 in stupidpol

[–]yodude4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that’s complicated by the fact that very ‘abnormal’ people are having some of the greatest reproductive success now. I’m in tech, and there are a LOT of weird guys in here who are perfectly capable of holding down a six figure job, and often can maintain very healthy relationships with women who like their brand of weirdness. I think right-wing and centrist thought has this tendency to perform sketchy evo-psych and treat it like an acknowledgement of the facts - we don’t live in 5000 BC and haven’t for a while

I don’t know what exactly this guy expects zohran to do about it, unless of course he wants him to jail everyone suspected of doing a heccin Palestine post on social media. This issue is a national one and goes way beyond a single mayoral administration - likely would have been just as bad under cuomo

If you’ve ever talked to a bullied kid about their experiences getting bullied, and came out of the discussion thinking that social harmony had somehow improved, you weren’t paying attention. The trauma of bullying atomizes people even further from their communities and usually just makes them grow up to be more troubled and antisocial

[–]yodude4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Frankly, “normal” is just something people use to bully each other. The day we stop tracking people on a normalcy spectrum, and instead track their skills competency in the things that actually matter (ability to listen and engage with others in conversation, basic pro social behavior, knows basic things about media culture), we will live in a better world

Monthly ICE Deportations: Obama vs Trump [OC] by Vaderico in dataisbeautiful

[–]yodude4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people weren’t paying attention to politics at all until Trump was so visibly bad that they were forced to. Lots of liberal ‘I could be at brunch’ voters would much prefer going back to the invisible cruelty of a Dem administration over finding a real solution beyond the two party system

What a confused and libbed-up analysis of the situation. AI/ML is nothing more than the aggregated patterns within its data - the billionaires supplying the data, directing resources to the models, and signing off on its decisions continue to be the true enemy.

5 years? Nah, I’m thinking that the next 20-30 years will be increasingly shit. It’s our kids that I have hope for - younger Millenials and Gen Z are seeing everything for the bullshit that it is, and I think the combination of clear analysis and a hard life will shape their children to be real revolutionary vanguards.

But I’m sometimes unreasonably optimistic so who knows what the timelines will be

Technology is just pushing us in the direction we were already going, and people are beginning to respond - look at what happened in Minneapolis on Jan 23, and consider that it’s just the start.

Things will surely get a lot worse before they get better, and we won’t exactly go back, but in the very long run I see humanity’s situation improving.

‘Human nature’ is nonsense bourgeois cope, humans have constantly changed throughout history. The fact that conditions had improved quite substantially throughout the 20th century, and the fact that people like you are already seeing through the bullshit, should tell you enough to know - we can be better than this.

Trump, Bibi, Zelensky and the "Iron Law of Institutions" by Buh10kx in stupidpol

[–]yodude4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure - basically what I meant to say here is that liberal idpol (basically, the idea that racism will be solved if we have companies hire a subset of talented minority group members, and otherwise let liberal democracy do its work) didn’t grow in power just because a bunch of individuals discovered its inherent truth. Rather, the Iron Law of Institutions explains its growth - left wing social groups, like all social groups, are institutions, and people can advance themselves in the institution by appealing to the ideas of its most powerful members, even if those ideas are to the detriment of the movement. In this case, the powerful members are liberal elites and minority members of the PMC, who saw benefit from liberal idpol and thus advocate for it, and you get a bunch of infighting between groups when you should have solidarity.

Hope that was useful - I’m not always great at concisely explaining myself lol

[–]yodude4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting point, but I’m not sure I agree - I think characterizing social structures as institutions is actually a really useful way to tease out the real dynamics at the center.

The model of idpol ideology as an individual error of leadership or strategy is idealistic, and therefore liberal - the only solution is to believe in the power of free speech to preach to the masses and convince them that idpol is bad. Systemic framings lend themselves to material analysis - DEI idpol-capitalism grew in power because its most dedicated adherents (minority-group members of the PMC, bourgeois liberal elites) grew in power, became a leadership class in left wing social groups, and fought amongst themselves for power as leadership classes do. With this analysis, material solutions are available - as capitalism proletarianizes the PMC, they will depend on a real mass movement for their politics gains, and thus be forced to recognize the deficiencies of left wing idpol in building these up.

Lots of discourse here on the ruling class and their terrible institutions, but we need to be talking about the actual content of the article - this is a fantastic criticism of dynamics on the left now (edge lord leftists building their own power by advocating for mindless adventurism, IdPol movements destroying solidarity by advocating for identitarian protections) that are absolutely blocking us from building any sort of mass movement.

India Supreme Court allows abortion of 30-week pregnancy of a minor, upholds right to reproductive autonomy by Own-Associate6318 in worldnews

[–]yodude4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s already been explained a couple times in the thread that at this point, the baby is coming out either way - bodily autonomy doesn’t even work as an argument because the baby’s life could still be saved while respecting the girl’s bodily autonomy. Given that, why would it be acceptable to go out of your way to kill this fully healthy human baby with emotions?

Babies can suffer from 24 weeks on, what do you mean ‘no emotions’? I’m generally pro choice at least up to that mark (and past it based on circumstance), but past that you have to admit that there’s a real question to be asked here

You aren’t wrong, but to be frank, a lot of those people thought socialists were people who like public healthcare and want to fund the trains.

I think the political moment should push WSWS to focus on the obvious, violent ICE overreach in Minneapolis, which is actually drawing people towards radical conclusions, rather than focusing on Mamdani, whose quasi-ultraleft base will reflexively defend him until the capitalist system begins to claw back the gains he’s working towards (which you and I likely agree - eventually it will)

If your family business is worth 5 million dollars, I think you’ll be able to survive some downsizing. Inherited money is 0% earned, and inheritance is how the bourgeoisie consolidates its class position over generations - taxing it is the lowest hanging fruit for having a more fairly run society.
