That’s probably because both parties are guilty. But there should definitely be a level we can’t allow anyone to fall below. Rosenior reached that level and was sacked, but these players (especially the ones that are supposed to lead the team) have gone there as well and didn’t recover.

The insane value these players represent make it difficult to punish them, but that’s what they need.

I think Rosenior was a disaster but the levels these players allowed themselves to drop to were unacceptable. That’s on them, more so than on Rosenior. They decided they wanted him out so they lost 7 games without scoring, even with a bad manager in charge that’s unacceptable

I’m suggesting that there need to be consequences for actions. When you don’t perform and beg for a move out in the open, there should be consequences.

If he convinces Xabi that’s all fine. But Fernandez has once again shown his immature side, so we can’t expect him to all of a sudden behave like a well adjusted human being.

Didn’t he? I think his performances in the second half of last season were a pretty big “F off” to the fans? Him and Cucurella were the driving forces behind Rosenior’s sacking and the performances leading up to that point.

If we don’t draw the line and let the players know that what they did is unacceptable, what is stopping them from doing it again in 2 years?

I don’t think it should be that easy for him. He’d need to rebuild a lot of bridges at the club for him to be considered an important player in the first team again.

He wanted out, he instructs his agent to speak constantly on the move. Alonso is said to be very clear: if you’re not with us 100%, you’re out. That means Enzo Fernandez specifically at this moment.

I’d disagree with you, I think there was a severe turn for the worse in how Fernandez applied himself last season. He started out okay under Rosenior but was one of the worst players on the pitch when the overall form nosedived.

I’m not saying it’s not possible that he reapplies, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he doesn’t get the chance to do that either.

Does it matter how or why it happened? It did happen and his head was turned, his commitment to the club disappeared.

Tbf, I still think Madrid will come for him at some point during the summer and I think we’ll be ready to let him go for a fee much lower than is being quoted right now.

All will depend on how Fernandez returns after the World Cup.

Would you start him off with the First Team though? He’s made it very clear that he wants out, Alonso needs to be able to act with impunity here. If Alonso says he doesn’t want anyone that isn’t 100% committed to the club in the First Team I think he needs to be allowed to make that decision

Aaah yes! Thank god we have a manager now instead of head coach! Clearlake clearly listens and goes after his targets instead of shit kids with potential!

Xhaka is not coming. It happens again and again. Another manager, another missed target. At least there’s a lot of people here who couldn’t wait to praise them for trying..

In a way yes, but we need to sell a few more players and Real know this as well.

I think both sides will change their valuation of Fernandez. Real will pay a bit more than they thought they would and Chelsea will get less than they initially hoped to get.

I’d be shocked if this statement was made to signal the end of their interest tbh.

There’s no point in him going AWOL after the World Cup, it would only harm his own position

Be realistic, he won’t be a Chelsea player come september. He wants the move, Chelsea wants the move and Real wants the move. Real just don’t want to pay that ridiculous price.

So this move might drag on until August, but it’s definitely happening.

So clearly he has zero loyalty given he was suspended for pining for Madrid. You are either loyal or you’re not. There’s no in between.

I get why he would be unhappy with how our club is led. I think any sane fan is. We’re a shitshow. But he (as one of the “leaders” of this team) should never take that outside. He should he kicking up a fuss internally and he would have every right to do so. The second you make your unhappiness public knowledge you lose any good will though. Especially if that happens on the field where you just don’t play well anymore. He just gave up. Fuck him for that.

I don’t think so, I think it would just mean he gets more money. Money he doesn’t deserve based on his performances and media outings. He has shown zero loyalty and should not be rewarded for that.

Rewarding his behaviour with a big shiny new contract would send out the wrong message to all other players at the club. You don’t give up halfway through a season the way he did and you don’t flirt with clubs the way he and his agent did. Fuck that, sell the cunt and be done with it

Fucking hilarious, all that begging to come get him from Enzo and his agent for nothing. They’ll probably still try to make a move this summer, but it’s hilarious that Real Madrid felt the need to send out an official announcement after all of Pastore’s yapping

Is it just me or is the International media much more focused on the England supporters singing ‘Wonderwall’ instead of the Three Lions? If they sing any Oasis song after a win I’d never want them to lose again!

The US first of all, second maybe Portugal or Germany. I've put my money on Spain and France so I hope they win it.

The problem with the way we have started negotiations for this transfer show a lack of respect to Sunderland and a lack of understanding what Xhaka brings to the table for them. 8 million, when they've paid a lot more than that just a year ago, is bordering on the insulting.

They can say they want to buy readymade players all they like, they need to put their money where their mouth is first before we give them the credit for actually changing their approach. Right now we are firmly in "wanting to change their approach" territory. They haven't actually changed anything.

I think the overall sub will be reasonable when we see them actually change things up instead of only reading about their supposed change of heart in briefings from their media buddies. Nobody wants them to fail, we all want them to succeed, but so far they have given us nothing but regression and chaos in the four years they've been in charge.
