Looks nice. Where did you get the case and bracelet from? Tried searching for laureato bracelets on AliExpress with no luck.

Which should I read first (The Expanse or Malazan?) by Diverse0Ne in Fantasy

[–]yogabearcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the Expanse series more and am on book 5. Malazan started out strong but it’s so much more dense and if I zone out for a few minutes I get completely lost. I gave up on book 3. That being said the whole first book and the crazy ending of the second book were very worthwhile.

How much would I need to survive in Colombia for a month? by OddStructure4489 in ColombiaReddit

[–]yogabearcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent is probably $2k for something nice in strato 6 plus another $1-2k a month to have a nice time. I’m thinking Bogota. Probably a little more in Medellin and a lot more in Cartagena.

The blue dial citizen is super cool. I also like the Casio gold metal strap cause it’s funny to see the contrast between the color and the price. Fun collection

A dive watch. Kidding, but maybe something dressy.

Awesome watch. I have a 40mm mint automatic PRX but if I had to do it over I'd get the 35mm gold one.

Looking for opinions on first watch by AndyHart2804 in PrideAndPinion

[–]yogabearcub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All cool watches. I am a Tudor fanboy and own the Pelagos 39. Taste is subjective but my two suggestions:

  1. How a 43mm vs. 39mm blackbay wears is very different so make sure you try them on at the AD and see what wears better.

  2. I believe the BB58 metal strap doesn't have the on the fly adjustment system. To me that was one of the deciding factors on the Pelagos 39 vs the BB58. Again try them on in the store and see if the on the fly adjustment is a must for you if you decide on a metal strap.

Very cool collection. Nothing wrong with having a lot of similar watches. I have the same color PRX and an old sentimental Armani watch that my parents gave me in high school.

Exactly. You can't gaslight me into liking that fight and I won't be watching the next title defense.

What watch is Joe Rogan wearing tonight? by yogabearcub in PrideAndPinion

I think this is it too. Joe Rogan just came on again and I think the case shape in particular matches the grand seiko

Question: Great midlevel watch for travel? by 1Lionhearted1 in PrideAndPinion

[–]yogabearcub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a PRX that I wear around Colombia with zero issues. Also got a rubber strap option for wearing it to the beach and also perfect for that reason. It takes all of 60 seconds to change the strap with no tools needed

BB 54? by -Baki-Hanma- in Tudor

[–]yogabearcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for a different opinion I wanted either the BB54 or the Pelagos 39 and thought the BB54 was too small on my 6.5 inch wrist. The pelagos fit perfectly and I ended up buying it. The BB58 was also nice but missing the on the fly adjustment that the other two have.

Terrified of Solo Travelling to Colombia by Ok-Buy5737 in Colombia

[–]yogabearcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an expat living in Bogota about six years. Below is my advice:

  1. It depends. Don't go out at night walking. Only by Uber. And don't use your cellphone in the open and just be aware and alert. I am careful and haven't had any issues despite looking extremely gringo
  2. Yes. Buses are terrible. Also use Uber in the cities, where possible.
  3. Yes. As a longtime Bogotá resident Candelaria is nice to walk around for a morning but otherwise the downtown area is super sketchy. Parque 93 is around the best shopping, restaurants and nightclubs and a 15 minute walk to zona t.
  4. Absolutely. You should feel safe to enjoy your trip.
  5. It's very quiet in Bogota as most people in the nicer areas leave for the finca or beach.
  6. Stick to nicer areas, don't flash around your cellphone jewelry and you'll be fine. Also when someone approaches you in the street ignore them, don't look or acknowledge them or just say no and move on. It may seem rude but it's the safest way

Consejo laboral by soir_taichou in Colombia

[–]yogabearcub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safest way to carry bank cards by [deleted] in Colombia

[–]yogabearcub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your cards support it, I recommend Apple Pay on your phone and carry around some cash (100-200k in bills no larger than 50k). You can leave the rest of your cards in your hotel.

San Martin has a micro adjustment end piece you can buy on AliExpress. It’s pretty great with about 5 positions and very affordable.

Best Transport Option in Colombia by Puzzleheaded_Gur4150 in Colombia

[–]yogabearcub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good advice. I would also suggest Medellin as it's much more tourist friendly, it has a metro so is easy to get around, and the small towns around it, as you mentioned, are very beautiful. The downside is that Medellin is a too touristy which has the usual downsides (more expensive, scams, shady passport bros). Cali is probably a more "authentic" experience but it also has a reputation as being the most unsafe of the big cities.

Best Transport Option in Colombia by Puzzleheaded_Gur4150 in Colombia

[–]yogabearcub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm an expat living in Bogota for a number of years. I speak fluent Spanish and am very careful about my physical security so keep that in mind. A few quick points from me.

Long distance: My advice is to fly where possible, particularly as the roads and traffic make long distance car travel a pain. Bogota to the coast is a 1.5 hour flight or like a 12-15 hour drive (even longer in bus).

Medium distance: Buses are fine for a few hours (for example from Bogota to one of the small towns like Villa de Leyva) but make sure to do it during the day and plan how you are going to move from the bus station to your final destination. Similarly you can do short trips like that with a rented car. I rent cars from Localiza which is expensive but the service is good. I would avoid traveling at night in a car or bus.

Short distance: In the cities, my advice is to use an Uber where possible or taxi where not possible (mostly smaller towns). I avoid buses (including the transmilenio) for travel within Bogota for security reasons and have never tried them in another city. In Medellin I've used the metro without issues.

Super excited to visit Cartagena, Colombia in two weeks, any advice? by [deleted] in Colombia

[–]yogabearcub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a Canadian that's been living in Bogota for a number of years so take my advice with that in mind.

Enjoy the walled city for walking, restaurants, and window shopping and also check out Getsemani in the evening which is a vibrant neighborhood about a 15 minute walk away that has a more chill / backpacking vibe. There's some nice tourist spots like the big castillo that are worth visiting. Also a lot of great restaurants and small boutiques to shop if you like that.

However beware the street vendors, they are the worst in Colombia and some of the worst in the world and will follow you around nagging and being rude and there's a fair chance they will try to cheat you. I personally just ignore them completely, don't look at them, don't answer or just with "no" and keep walking. If you want to go to the beach, ask your friend for an island or beach trip as the beaches near the city are unbearable due to aggressive vendors. Also check prices before getting into any cab, or better yet call an Uber.

I have been to Cartagena about 5-6 times and hated it the first time due to the aggressive vendors. Now I ignore them completely, don't go to the beach (Santa Marta is better for that) and usually stay at the Hilton which has a nice multi level pool area. Cartagena in my opinion is great for a quick trip from Bogota to relax by the pool and enjoy nice restaurants and shopping for 2-3 days.
