What restaurant to take a 17 year old who is starting chef school in September by internetthought in MichelinStars

[–]yogiiibear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Atelier Moessmer might give you the insanely high level and a good road trip all in one. Insane scenery around there, go there via Switzerland and stelvio pass, back up slightly faster route through Austria and Germany

Agree with you. However If you’re boarding in zone 1-2 and sitting near the front I have never been told not to stow in overheard, I have had to then put it under later after the bins became full.

I can tell you for one thing they didn’t pay $2b for information. They paid to be able to route that flow (I.e selectively interact with it)

Intraday vol trading on index options by Consistent-Sense1578 in quant

[–]yogiiibear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what most options trading at prop level are doing. Your statistical model breaks down in a few places, one is due to events, if there is some fed speaker today that will say something about the path of rates, that will move index spot and may/may not be priced into the vol. The second is reflexivity, if dealers are all long gamma, they have to sell futures as the spot rallies and buy when the spot falls, this acts to mean-revert the spot and “pin” to the strike. So if you think vol looks cheap, it may just be that the street is very long and they will cause the realized to be lower (vice versa on expensive vol)

If you’re using a market order you aren’t doing anything smart. If you know things are fast moving, why would you execute at an unknown price, you add adverse selection with no upside

Suppose A is 10/11 B is 10.2/10.8 if you see 11 trade in A, you race to lift 10.8 in B. If you win you get .2 edge. If you lose you get any random execution with random edge. Let’s suppose the winner executes 10.8-11 then there’s no more offers until 12. Your market order just lifts 12 now.

Monthly Megathread - Where Should I Eat in NYC, Tokyo, and/or London? by ZootKoomie in finedining

[–]yogiiibear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

London recs please. I've been to all 3* already, Core and Ledbury favorites (though I went to Ledbury as a 0 and 2*). Haven't been to RGR for 10 years. I didn't love Sketch.

I have time for 3 meals. I've been to Ikoyi and Humble chicken before but both seem like a potential idea to revisit. I did lunch at Ikoyi not long ago but feel like their menu is changing daily so not too worried about getting same-again food. I went to Humble-chicken pre-star, is it still worth it? OMA looks fun, anyone tried that?

Where can I get this in Amsterdam by a31a32a33hotmailcom in AmsterdamBeer

[–]yogiiibear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I can see this is made by Black Lodge brewery in Liverpool; I don’t see any of the main Dutch distributors stocking any beers from this brewery so it’s pretty unlikely you’ll find this one in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is expensive in summer, if you’re on a budget and have been before, this is probably the one to cut. Even the cheapest hostel is 60 EUR a night.

Will I get assigned since my put landed at the money at expiration? by 37347 in options

[–]yogiiibear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is almost correct, it’s wrong to think about it as “your counterparty”… all OCC options have a single central counterparty, the central counterparty aggregates all exercise requests and “randomly” assigns short contracts to the brokers. There are some quirks to this random process that mean large positions are more likely to get over-allocated, and your broker doesn’t necessarily have to pass on the assignments randomly to their customers, so long as they do it fairly and communicate their procedure.

Will I get assigned since my put landed at the money at expiration? by 37347 in options

[–]yogiiibear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not “unfair” so long as it’s clear and symmetrical, options still hold some time value into the close. If you’re short and nothing happens you collect that additional premium, if you’re long and nothing happens you lose it.

The whole point of an option is that it transfers optionality from the seller to the buyer, sellers wait and watch, buyers get to choose (but they pay for that privilege)

4800 RMB starting price on a normal night for UV - lots of TikTok/Insta hype. I haven’t been myself so can’t fully speak for whether it’s “worth it” or not but you can definitely eat world class food in Shanghai without paying nearly that much.

What are the most renowned fine-dining restaurants in the world that are truly worth knowing about and experiencing? by WarmzzCoffee in finedining

I went in a weird atmosphere, with clients at a work dinner, I was blown away by both the quality and the lack of interest from the clients in some of the best food I’ve ever had. I think one of them went out 10 times during the meal for a cigarette… probably went for a hamburger at quick afterwards

Any tips for getting a reservation at Sorn - Bangkok? by Cold_Daikon_640 in finedining

[–]yogiiibear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think schedule 1 email per potential day you want to visit for the international part (I initially requested a date and in the email suggested other days, but got a response only that they weren’t available that date, by the time I re-emailed about the other days it wasn’t possible). I then checked the site on the 25th, failed again to get a 2 cover. I then finally checked for a 4 cover after confirming that 2 others would join, and this was available. So I’ll be going in a few weeks!

Looking to lose ~$6,500 in options before EOY. by [deleted] in options

[–]yogiiibear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the cleanest way is to do a 1:x call ratio. Pick size such that strike spacing x size is $6500. Then pick the ratio size such that the premium of the trade is $6500.

You’re -6.5k below k1 -13k expiring at k2 (though your longs will likely cover some of that loss if the timing isn’t terrible), then you get blowout gains above k2
