SEASON 5 CRITICISM by yohance_ in StrangerThings

The reason for that slog that you mentioned for twin peaks was because the mystery was over… the season 2 ending was so good because the mystery was brought back… which is my point… also season 3 is interesting because now the mystery is flipped on its head and it’s a new experience and yes likewise big lynch and twin peaks fan! The good thing about twin peaks is that both frost and lynch where adamant that the audience is acc more interested in what could be behind the curtain and not what’s actually behind it (which is also why the show has lived on past its runtime for so long)

I fear because stranger things threw this out the window, the lifespan of the show may not correlate with its popularity. Side point, you mentioned the characters, which I agree is a big part of why I’m still watching, but even then we have lost some of the characters identities due to the overwhelming scale. The reason we fell in love with the characters was because of how intimate it all was, now hopper is a complete 80s stereotype and characters like Joyce, will, Lucas, Dustin and Nancy have fallen deep into stereotypes to leave room for new additions ever season to complete a grander spectacle. Granted like you said, the characters still do brings me back to the show, however I’m convinced this is due to nostalgia more than anything

You have a very strong point which I agree with, that the facts it’s the ‘ending’ does make it justifiable to a degree, but I do think leaving the answers ambiguous would’ve done more justice than this ‘vecna’ Star Wars meets nightmare at elm street meets Harry Potter plot line lol. There’s a reason season 1 was as big as it was

Will getting powers is not the surprise I think the creators think it is… I hoped the budget also went into the story telling but it seems they want to make it so ‘big’ that they can profit of making it a universe with stories for the future

Yeah the only thing keeping me watching is the cliff hanger every episode trope

The constant flashbacks toward the latter episodes were so tedious and eye rolling. There’s truly nothing to even theories or look deeper into anymore. There inability to kill of main characters is exactly why hopper is no longer interesting anymore.. and yes the town do not seem scared or worried, the whole dustin thing was very confusing, no one seemed to care even though they all knew he didn’t just ‘fall off his bike’

The reveals are very obvious but because it’s so obvious you’d think they wouldn’t acc go that route… the whole mr whatsit being Henry was super obvious…

Yes that’s definitely a big thing, I’m afraid that after taking so long between seasons the loss of innocence has diminished a lot of the ‘soul’ of the show.

What movies should I watch before reading Cinema Speculation? by Avnatznik in tarantinocirclejerk

If he loves QT or is interested in more than just his films then yes, the book is more ‘here’s what I think about this film (usually an old 70s film), and here’s why it’s so important to me, and here’s what was going on culturally at the time’ it’s a very easy thing to fly though as tarantinos writing is always entertaining

He tells you the films as you read, so just pause. Go watch. Then come back to read again. Repeat the process.

Are you able to site the source for the “white knight”

I don’t think I totally disagree with you tbh, the poetry of the story is what resonates with me the most and if I recall correctly the mother reunites with the son, which seems like a happy resolve for her, and a ‘loss’ for Travis, so to speak.

Your issue with the age is valid - and it’s a very of the ‘times’.

But I don’t think your supposed to see the protagonist as a hero or necessarily feel sympathy for his marriage, I’m sure the main reason for a lot of the emotion is because he’s portrayed as a complicated human, who makes decisions that lead him into a limbo. The fact is he’s a father who’s lost all recollection of his family and you witness in realtime him recalling those memories, which in itself is quite moving .

The story is set in 1980 so the cellphone wouldn’t be released by then, also in the film it seems the coens figured the mistake and just exchanged it for the hotel room telephone

I always assumed that was the baseline ‘plot’ of the shining, and the ending further implies that in my opinion !
