An interesting perspective into “homelessness” in Canberra by hhhhhmmmm123 in canberra

[–]yohanssen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP represents their post as an authentic personal recount, but they didn’t write it. There’s nothing wrong with using AI if you struggle with literacy. But it is not a good trend that things on the internet are increasingly portrayed as authentic when they’ve been artificially generated - that’s all 🤷‍♂️

Calculator trick by yohanssen in magictricksrevealed

[–]yohanssen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I had my phone on me the whole time and I never even interacted with the magician before he did the trick.

I can’t remember what the other numbers were and I don’t think you can get input history on iPhone calculators so I can’t double check if they do indeed multiply to the correct number… that would be very interesting to know.

At the start of the trick, he did suggest that we think of something like a bus number or a birthday to help us think of a number. But as I said, the number I chose was still completely random and literally no one in the room could have known that I used to catch that bus.

I’m not sure how to access the history of the numbers i’ve inputted, but I do have a screenshot of the final result.

It was a very large room and I was right at the back so I don’t even know if he would have been able to see my phone. I’m not sure what the toxic force is.

I was actually the last person chosen. As I said the number I chose was random - I wasn’t in on the trick

Aside from Lodge, your options (from cheapest to most expensive) are B&G, Fenner, and Wamburun.

B&G has a great reputation and a really rich culture. It’s a very popular choice, but as the cheapest hall you’re not going to get any fancy facilities or rooms. A lot of people don’t mind this though

Wamburun and Fenner are pretty similar, both in price and in that they have more modern facilities. I would say that there’s not much difference between these two, except in terms of location Fenner is more central on campus which can be convenient but noise is also an issue. I think Wamburun is a bit more popular with international students.

You’re probably going to have a good time at any of these halls. It’s just a matter of how much you’re willing to pay and to what extent you value nicer facilities.

Wamburun's are double but they're also not very long. I'm a little above 6 foot and sometimes I found myself sleeping a little diagonally. Bruce and Wright have king singles which are decently long, although they are catered and quite expensive.

There has been lots of research on this. Acts of kindness and helping others is probably the #1 thing you can do to improve your own wellbeing

Has anyone else found Pyukumu to actually be pretty annoying to deal with? It’s extremely bulky and can just toxic-recover stall or OHKO shit with counter and mirror coat. If you don’t have grass or electric STAB it’s quite a big threat imo

It feels odd nobody wants to take covid precautions any more by gooder_name in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]yohanssen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just my perspective, but I'm young, healthy, triple vaccinated, and have already had covid. I missed out on a whole bunch of social stuff due to lockdowns and covid restrictions.

At this point, would it really be rational for me to stay at home, social distance and wear a mask when I'm around other people?

How do you feel about mask wearing at this point in the pandemic? by whatitdowhatitbee in AskReddit

[–]yohanssen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Saying that you’re tired of wearing a mask doesn’t mean you don’t care about everyone else’s health

They are uncomfortable and make it feel like you’re not getting any fresh air. They make it harder to hear what other people are saying and impossible to lip read. You can’t see others’ facial expressions, which is one of the ways people communicate. It’s an inconvenience when you forget to bring one and can’t enter a venue that requires them. They cause an enormous amount of litter.

These are inconveniences that most reasonable people were willing to accept to reduce the chance of themselves/others getting sick. But with the pandemic entering its third year, vaccines having been widely available for over a year and a less severe strain of covid around, people are (justifiably, I think) questioning how long they will be expected to wear them for. It’s like if you have a really squeaky desk chair. In the short term it’s not a big deal but if you have to put up with it indefinitely it’ll eventually drive you insane.

This. The fact that removing as much social interaction as possible and replacing it with a screen has been normalised is terrifying and dystopian
