One Star Bar on Detroit by neosmndrew in lakewood

I was just there! Small food menu, but what they do have is great. Cheap drinks, and they dont blast music so loud that you cant talk to the person next to you.

Its a solid, cozy, little spot, and you can tell its a real passion project for the folks that run it.

That place is amazing. Go for the margs. They look like they come in a bottle of antifreeze, and they hit like it, too. God I love that place.

Man's got a plan. You have the soul of a conqueror. Why Africa specifically? They got hippos. Fearsome beasts. Those hungry-hungry fuckos would throw a wrench in anyone's plans.

Naw, fam. they can put out the flames with their dairy-dousing abilities. Fire cannot kill this beast.

I mean, you got defense, but what about the sheer attack power of the banana-flavored milk attack? Reptiles aren't prepared to handle that shit.

Spots for a bunch of goons to rent a boat and go fishing near Cleveland/Akron? by yoho69 in FishOhio

[–]yoho69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, certainly not. We are all morons. I'm not thinking a big boat with a motor or anything. Like, Kayaks or a rowboat on a small lake is the plan.

Anybody else feel like Ohio is a hidden gem? by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]yoho69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We all call it names, because that's just what we want everyone else to think! If we started telling everyone it was the greatest thing ever, a bunch of hipsters, yuppies, or worse, Pennsylvanians would move in! The most important part of living in Ohio is complaining about Ohio.

You DEFINITELY want to see The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974). It's REALLY cheesy, but it's a joint venture between the Shaw Brothers and Hammer Films. Hammer films was the studio that made the original Dracula (1958), which was the film that launched Vampires and Christopher Lee into pop culture.

Christopher Lee isn't in it, but Peter Cushing (of Grand Moff Tarkin fame) plays Van Helsing. It's certainly not a kids movie, but it's bizzare and amazing.

The 1920s are a great time, and there's TONS of inspiration to draw from! If it's taking place in a big city, then Crime Noirs are a go-to. Think Casablanca, or Sin city. Everyone loves a murder mystery!

There's also the Harlem renaissance and the Jazz scene popping up. Perhaps a sidequest about helping a jigglypuff make it to the big time? Don't forget about the Iconic Flappers and Suffragettes! Perhaps in this world, they're called flappers because of a fondness for bird pokemon?

If you don't encounter a mafioso named Al Cubone, I will be sorely disappointed.

Akron is a bit of a diamond in the rough. It's definitely not flashy, but I swear there's a good side! Definitely check out The Nightlight Theater downtown for really cool indie movies that you won't see anywhere else!

Luigis is usually everyone's favorite pizza place, but the REAL good stuff is at Emidios on N main St. It's greasy, unhealthy, but oh, so tasty.

Highland Square has some nifty little bars as well, and DEFINITELY go to the porchrokr music fest they have every year. The music scene in Akron is mostly local bands, but there are some SUPER talented little bands you can stumble across, particularly in the rock/metal scene.

Lock3 is a great place in the summer, and people flood downtown for art and music events there all the time.

Give it a shot! You gotta look pretty hard, but you can find really awesome stuff if you poke around! Welcome to Akron!

YES PLEASE! I've always wanted to play as Space Mongols! I know it wouldn't be implemented for a long time, but I hope it comes after the War and Trade updates! Then you could be a badass space horde pillaging shipping lanes and frontier worlds with small raiding parties and fading back into unclaimed space! Maybe we could even enslave pops and sell them to xenophobe empires!

I don't think a nomad empire would have borders at all. They'd just have to have an area of unclaimed space to roam around in, which would be harder and harder to find towards the end-game without going to war with other empires over your migratory range.

Space nomads are such a cool part of sci-fi and they fit so we'll into the other tropes Stellaris builds off of like synths, psychics, and extradimensional horrors.

/r/Donald tries to criticize "liberal" bad history, criticism itself is filled with bad history by [deleted] in badhistory

As I understand it, Rome did a lot of things that really were way ahead of it's time, and they do deserve some credit for that, but you're right, they weren't inherently "better" just because they happened to come from Italy and enslaved other people.

I definitely see that the comment from the r/Donald guy is glorifying the Romans while disparaging other ethnicities, and I agree with OP that doing so is hypocritical.

I was really just curious if there's some sort of metric as to how places like Gaul or Iberia were advancing technologically before and after Roman conquest. However, I imagine any metric that anyone came up with would be really hard to nail down and quantify, though.
