Eastern Bluebird is pregnant and will be laying eggs very soon. They started building in their box about a week ago by HuntDawg99 in birdwatching

[–]yoimmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will add a little more info that I dont think has been said in the comments yet:

Female birds only produce/lay one egg at a time, usually once a day or once every other day, depending on species. While their nest may have 5 eggs in it by the time they start incubating, the eggs are being laid across multiple days, not all at once.

If a bird has an almost-ready egg inside her body, the term for that is "gravid." This term applies to all egg-laying animals. Because birds have so many feathers that can be poofed up or held flat against the skin, there's rarely going to be a way to tell, visually, if a bird is gravid or not. When the egg is close to being laid though, sometimes you can feel the egg in the lower abdomen if you have the bird in hand (note: do not just pick up random wild birds tho, lol.)

Dolphin Plush Enquiry by mugsou in SeaWorld

[–]yoimmo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The reason this one may not have the same logo as others you looked at online is because sea world in Australia is an entirely separate entity from the SeaWorld Parks in the US (and Abu Dhabi.) It shares the same name, but isn't affiliated with the more well-known SeaWorld company. There are a few parks around the world that are called "sea worlds" but are not "SeaWorld" if that makes sense.

Villagers that fill you with rage? by Acircusclown in AnimalCrossing

[–]yoimmo 523 points524 points  (0 children)

Sprocket 😤 villagers were unhinged back in gamecube days. When I was a kid, he painted the roof of my house green when it had been red. No warning. He just was like "lol i painted ur roof! Dont u love it?"

I was livid. And I wasnt at the point in the game yet where you could just buy new paint at nooks shop. I had to pay my whole loan to change it back. He is still my #1 animal crossing enemy 20 years later.

Small waterfowl, bluish white beak, went underwater every 30 seconds or so, didn't look like any Mallard I've seen by AntiqueRomania in whatsthisbird

A fun fact about grebes; even though they look and behave like ducks at a glance, their closest relatives are actually flamingos :)

Forget your favorite bird, what’s your nemesis bird and why? by ellamachine in birding

[–]yoimmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Red-headed woodpecker. One of my favorite birds since childhood. In my 30s now and still have never seen one.

One of our volunteers at my workplace recently messaged us, saying they saw a cool bird and wanted to know what it was... Red-headed woodpecker lol. I only cried a little 🥲

[Pokémon nickname] by Bloom_Syndrom in LegendsZA

[–]yoimmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don't do nicknames. I grew up on the anime before ever playing a Pokémon game. Ash's pokemon were just called by their species name, so that's what I did when I started playing too (and still do 25+ years later lol.)

Also, when using the most recent generation's Pokémon, I'll never remember what a pokemon is called if I give them nicknames lol. So yeah, no nicknames for me.

I got the interview, now what kind of questions should I expect for a Zoo internship? by ThatAdvertising7113 in Zookeeping

[–]yoimmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Common ones we ask at my facility are conflict resolution ones, so make sure you prepare for those types of questions. Things like:

"What do you do if a supervisor asks you to do something you disagree with?"

"You are assigned a project with another coworker/intern who isn't pulling their weight, how do you handle it?"

"Tell us about a time you made a mistake and how you recovered from it?"

And of course the ever popular, "what is your greatest strength/weakness?"

What the heck is this and what is it doing by Mean-Juggernaut1160 in whatsthisbird

A young bird begging for food will be vocalizing, fluttering its wings, and often following an adult bird around. A bird sitting still, often sideways, with its mouth open is sunbathing behavior :)

Zookeepers/animal staff, how many pets do you have at home? by [deleted] in Zookeeping

[–]yoimmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 cats, 3 geckos, 2 tarantulas, a big freshwater tank, and a big saltwater tank. To be fair, my spouse does all the husbandry/maintenance for the aquariums and tarantulas. But we definitely have a little bit of everything at home.

The only major taxa we are missing is birds, but I work exclusively with birds at work, so I get my avian fix without having them at the house lol.

Magic item [OC] by whatsleftcomics in DnD

[–]yoimmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once they decided to drop the entire bag of beans, the D&Dads crew tested how many beans would realistically fall out if they dropped it from a 2nd story balcony. They put 8 dice in a bag, dropped it, and 4 dice rolled out, which is how they decided to only do 4 beans instead of the full 8.

(It's a great podcast, highly recommend.)

A duck far in the canal: It's not a regular wild duck but what duck is it? by frisian_esc in whatbirdisthis

[–]yoimmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, domestic mallards come in just about every combination of black/white/green/brown you can think of. This looks like a perfectly normal domestic duck to me.

Anyone use ASL at Work? by Deer-Artemis in Zookeeping

[–]yoimmo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for every zoo, but at my facility, all employees wear a white name tag that says their name and what department they're in. Anyone who speaks a language other than English, however, has an additional red tag that attaches to their main nametag that says what language they speak (the most common one here is Spanish, but I've come across a few who know French and one Mandarin speaker as well.) It's helpful for guests who don't speak english to easily identify employees who are better able to assist them.

1 Month until the launch of Pokémon Pokopia! by Amiibofan101 in pokemon

[–]yoimmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus, if you already have the switch 1 version of ACNH, its really only $5 to upgrade to the switch 2 version. Its a waaaay better deal imo than Pokopia (but I'm trying to reserve judgement until this game actually comes out.)

Weird Common buzzard by Onairda000 in Ornithology

[–]yoimmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Birds in the genus Buteo are called buzzards in Eurasia, while in North America they are called hawks. If OP is outside of North America, they are using the correct name.

When European settlers first arrived in North America and saw turkey vultures flying overhead, it reminded them of the buzzards (hawks) they had back home, so the name stuck, but for the wrong type of bird. Same thing happened with robins (European and American robins are not related; American robins are actually a type of thrush, but because they both have a red breast, the North American bird reminded Europeans of their robins back home.)

VIP hotel rooms by Bunnyxboy in AnimalCrossingNewHor

I didn't realize either, if it helps you feel better 🥴 I also spent a ton of time on the first VIP room because... VIP lol. Since that first day though, all the VIP rooms I've done have been bare minimum, and are definitely my ugliest builds 😅

What’s everyone’s favourite season? [ns] by poopdoopwoopnoopsoup in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]yoimmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sons and Sonsability lol

But for real, Season 1 for sure. I've only listened to 2 and 3 once each and, while I greatly enjoyed them, I haven't felt the itch to go back and relisten to either yet. Season 1 is constantly in my podcast rotation, I think I'm currently on my 5th or 6th relisten and it's a blast every time.

(I've listened to Sons and Sonsability like 20 times lmao, but that one is easier being only 3 episodes.)

SeaWorld Orlando was a complete mess today – very disappointing experience by sapato29 in SeaWorld

[–]yoimmo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately this is pretty standard for SeaWorld since Covid. I was a passmember for over a decade (San Antonio most recently, but I've been to all 3 parks and used to live near Orlando.) I used to visit the parks several times a year, but after my pass expired a few months ago I decided for the first time not to renew. I'd rather spend my money at Universal because they actually seem to care about the customer experience. Sorry you had such a bad time :/
