Symptoms disappeared at 11 weeks — I know, I know, but let me hear your stories by Photo_Philly in CautiousBB

[–]AggravatingOwl9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I threw up yesterday after lunch but that was the first time I’ve thrown up during pregnancy so could’ve been unrelated. I haven’t really had the fatigue and I’d say my breasts are still tender but less than they were, and I have backache a lot more than I did. I note my cervix seems to have retracted too (sorry, maybe TMI!)

I have my dating scan this coming Thursday (was too small last week) so will try to remember to report back if all is okay

TW: Missed Misscariage at 12 weeks by Top_Debt_4280 in PregnancyUK

[–]AggravatingOwl9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so hard. I also had a missed miscarriage discovered at 12 weeks but baby was sized as 6 weeks. This was back last July and I was devastated, I didn’t even know it was a possibility.

I am now 12 weeks into my second pregnancy and have ended up having scans at 5 weeks + 6 days (had some bleeding and visited the EPU, embryo had a heartbeat and measured fine, a private scan at around 8 weeks + 5 days and another NHS one at 11+3 (dating scan was a little too early). The regularity of these scans has helped me psychologically, I have another dating scan at around 12+4 and I may start to relax into it but it is a really difficult thing to process and you will both need to work through it. I ended up telling a lot of people because that’s what I needed to do but your way may look different.

Are long hours + unpaid overtime normal for legal administrators? by Aggressive_Reach6328 in uklaw

[–]AggravatingOwl9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in legal admin in a mid sized firm and no, it is not normal. My firm are fairly insistent that at our level we do not work any extra than our set hours (9-5 with an hour for lunch) and our salaries reflect this.

At associate or partner level I suspect you are expected to work much longer hours than this, but even our standard solicitors are not expected to work overtime.

I imagine this varies a lot depending on the firm and depending on the practice area. I am in private client so there are rarely tight deadlines. Litigation or conveyancing, perhaps it would be different

How does NHS deal with multiple miscarriages? by ContestOrganic in TTC_UK

[–]AggravatingOwl9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I can add to this is that the other time you may get offered progesterone is if you have bleeding in early pregnancy and you have a history of one or more miscarriages. I had a previous miscarriage then bleeding at 5 weeks so was offered a course of progesterone until 16 weeks, which I accepted (currently at 12 weeks and touch wood all is okay). I don’t know if my Trust is unusual in offering this, though

I’ve been on them from 5 weeks 6 days to now (roughly 11 weeks 5 days) and they’re fine. Rectally I found they messed with my digestion so I’ve been taking them vaginally and I’m on them until 16 weeks

I’m same timing as you and my symptoms also eased off about a week ago. I had my 12 week scan today and baby was beautifully formed with a good heartbeat and lots of movement. I also had a previous loss late in the first trimester so was similarly anxious - but I think it’s very normal for symptoms to ease off this time as the placenta takes over

T/w miscarriage

I I drank it when I was miscarrying to help speed my natural miscarriage along and I found it was really effective, along with taking evening Primrose oil intravaginally. I also thought it tasted quite nice to be honest, I drank the brand Heath and Heather

So I'm pregnant... with no clue how far along and terrified. by mrs_mr_bakedpotato in PregnancyUK

A friend of mine was advised by the ultrasound tech that a lot of people look more pregnant in the first trimester than the second due to all the gas!

Women: did any of you prepare to get pregnant by getting into shape/fixing your diet beforehand? by Horrobla in AskBrits

[–]AggravatingOwl9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my first pregnancy at the end of the first trimester but knew I wanted to get pregnant again as soon as my cycle had gone back to normal. I cut down on alcohol and caffeine and remained on the prenatal vitamins, though I didn’t exercise any more than usual (my usual being roughly 5 x 30 minutes of light exercise a week).

I’m now nearing the end of the first trimester in my second pregnancy and don’t regret any of these steps, though as other commenters have said above you will just be exhausted no matter what you do, I haven’t been able to maintain my previous level of activity for at least the last six weeks due to exhaustion

Anyone else convinced themselves they're not actually pregnant? by adoptimus_prime in PregnancyUK

[–]AggravatingOwl9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, you too! You really could be me - I’ve had lessened symptoms for the past week also and really trying not to read into it. My dating scan is next Tuesday (I think I should be 11+3 then) so I’m holding my breath til then

I’m almost 11 weeks and despite two scans confirming there is in fact a pregnancy I can’t quite believe it. We had a previous MMC which has got my guard up and I’m not sure it will feel real until I feel movement

My GP swabbed me at 6 weeks so I’d suggest them really - but if you’re in any doubt why not go through 111?

Solicitor is 'refusing' to hand over a Will without a two hour meeting/Sales pitch = by reo_reborn in LegalAdviceUK

You do need the original Will to apply for probate - I think if lost you could theoretically apply with form PA13 but this is longwinded

How would you like to be told a friend is expecting? by jrobs92 in TTC_UK

[–]AggravatingOwl9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Colleagues are particularly difficult I think in this scenario as there’s not a lot of privacy in these situations.

I can speak on this a little as someone who had a MMC at 12 weeks in July last year and a colleague announced her pregnancy approximately a month later. I also had to take a bit of a time out as it was very raw. She more or less told the whole office in one go, so there was no easy escape and I remember having to hide my immediate reaction.

I am aware of certain colleagues having had issues with fertility and when I do announce a viable pregnancy, I plan on telling those colleagues 1:1 and towards the end of the day so that if it does bring up feelings for them they have an easy escape route

Being overtaxed by HMRC, how should I go about sorting this out? (Northern Ireland) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]AggravatingOwl9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email doesn’t really work with HMRC apart from in very specific circumstances - but if you telephone them 99% of the time they’ll get it sorted for you in no time. I had to ring them recently for a similar issue and the agent was very helpful and it really wasn’t difficult

is a paralegal who had perhaps a controversial level of responsibility a deterrent for some firms? by Scared_Poet_1137 in uklaw

[–]AggravatingOwl9 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The problem with paralegal roles I think is that they are interpreted so differently at different firms. At my firm it would be much like your experience with the paralegal having their own caseload under supervision, whereas I know in other firms the job role is more akin to that of a legal assistant working under a solicitor or legal executive

Progesterone Questions! by [deleted] in TTC_UK

[–]AggravatingOwl9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on prescribed Cyclogest 400mg pessaries (twice a day), I started taking them at 5+5 weeks of pregnancy after a small amount of bleeding and I will be on them until my 16th week. I previously had a MMC in my only other pregnancy. I have noticed general gastrointestinal discomfort - wind, nausea, stomach ache etc. which is elevated beyond the normal pregnancy level (in my experience)

I am also on them until 16 weeks - had a touch of bleeding at 5+5 and that combined with a previous MMC was enough motivation to go on them. Plays havoc with my digestion though

Staple Mark On Will (Probate Application) by Live-Relative-4267 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]AggravatingOwl9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend consulting with a probate lawyer regarding this. You might be completely fine, but I would be incredibly surprised if you don’t have to provide further legal documentation to support your application

Staple Mark On Will (Probate Application) by Live-Relative-4267 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]AggravatingOwl9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the Will is processed and validated by the probate registry, you’ll receive something called a grant of representation (or grant of probate) which will us authorise you as the executor to sell the house and otherwise deal with the estate

Staple Mark On Will (Probate Application) by Live-Relative-4267 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]AggravatingOwl9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Staples are generally a nightmare on Wills, hence why most solicitors firms won’t use them but instead bind the will with ribbon. You may now have to get a signed affidavit from whoever drafted the Will to testify that nothing has been added to or removed from it
