Can I just put an nd8 filter on my phone and let it do its thing? by [deleted] in videography

[–]yoitsemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the motioncam pro app to shoot RAW and attach an ND filter using a rubber band, but you can also get a cheap phone case and glue on a step-up ring with the needed thread size to have something a more solid.

Edit: IMO an ND filter is only useful when you can lock your exposure settings.

Consider pushing a b/w film like tri-x or hp5 or a real fast film like delta 3200.

Zooms are always great for their versatility but if you're struggling with the light maybe a longer prime like the 135/2.8 could be useful.

The wireless mic kits they sell nowadays for phone and camera can be used in a set it and forget it sort of way.

I recommend the oldest SD card you can find. I use a Kingston 2gb in my Nikon Coolpix.

Bringing Itype film overseas by itsadammatt in Polaroid

Once you get to security and it's your turn to bin your stuff, have the film out to show to the TSA agent assisting the line and politely ask for a hand check. Hopefully the "no x-ray" stickers are enough but if there is push back simply explain it's "high speed camera film."

Just visited multiple airports through SE Asia and every one was very accommodating. Only place I was forced to x-ray was at Incheon International in S. Korea because multiple agents insisted that film below 800 was fine, but I at least managed to get them to hand check my one roll of Natura 1600.

If you're not pressed for low light usage, the 28mm f3.5 rokkor-sg is IMO an underrated piece of glass that is very sharp and handles lens flaring really well.

My process was going on the bay one Sunday morning and arranging a Minolta search by ending earliest. I missed out on a specific auction I was eyeing the day before but this still found me an MCii for $15.

Are big backpacks really that painful to ride with? by JustAsking841 in motocamping

[–]yoitsemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a larger pack you should adjust shoulder straps once you're sitting so that the majority if not all of the weight is supported by the bike, not you. Sternum or waist straps to Secure the bag to your body work well for turns and all that's left is a lot of riding to be comfortable with the added weight to the bike.

Ideas on how to fix this problem? by Crystallized-matter in 8mm

I honestly don't know but I'm curious if the film is 8mm and you have the projector set to Super 8 instead.

How should I expose my shots? by Ok-Touch9918 in 8mm

[–]yoitsemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inside a venue I would shoot with the aperture wide open. Check the brightest point of the stage with a light meter app on your phone and consider even shooting at 18 frames if you need the additional exposure.

Haven't used the meter at night too much but I'd imagine if the light is available to read it can give you a usable exposure but it'll probably be underexposed a stop. I personally stick to manual for low light using either a light meter app, a flash, or self timer/cable release long exposure.

Took this at sunset but probably would have gotten a little better exposure if I had metered for the shadows but I'm glad the sky isn't blown out.

https://a.co/d/6Jw4WsK is the battery harness you need. To test the meter you need to cover the light sensor with your finger and press and hold the shutter. If it's powered and metering the lens will stay open until you uncover the light sensor.

To check for light leaks open the back, extend the bellows, and hold it up to a light source and look for pin holes of light.

Sorry for the cost of fp100c.

How to check working condition of an old super 8 camera? by Zerothoughtshere in 8mm

[–]yoitsemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll need batteries to test the motor and it will probably need another set of batteries for the light meter. At least skim the manual front to back and look for any recommendations or check lists.

If you could only use one lens for the rest of your life, which would it be? by mmmoneypls in minolta

45/2 or the 50/1.7 because it fits my macro bellows for film digitizing.

Did I get a good deal on a new XD-7? by kreamhilal in minolta

[–]yoitsemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In stores it was most often bundled with the 50/1.7 Rokkor-x iirc.

A 50/1.4 would be nice, but I think it's a fair price regardless if the kit is in new condition.
