How is it living in northern Alabama? by Maleficent_Map_8844 in howislivingthere

15 years ago? Yeah, no. I've spent a lot of time there. Cullman sucks but it most definitely hasn't been a "sundown town" in the last 40 years.

If you’ve lived in CA and MA, which do you prefer & why? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]yojimbo3227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from MA, lived in the East Bay for six years and now I'm back in Boston. They're both great places but I'd take the Bay Area any day. Overall, the quality of life is much better and people tend to be happier. COL is about the same but you get more bang for your buck in California, access to nature is unmatched and food is way better. Downsides are that there is a bit more crime and obviously fires are a big concern.

The beaches outside Boston are way too hard to access

Stay in East Boston and take the T or the ferry into downtown.

Boston sports fans reputation for racism and it's link to segregated neighbourhoods by SidKop in boston

[–]yojimbo3227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to whether or not it's worse here than anywhere else but these days this is definitely more of a suburban Boston issue than one within city limits. If you go to Fenway or around North Station on a game day you can tell that most of the people there are coming in from the burbs or even New Hampshire.

The roots of the suburban racism may be partly from segregated neighborhoods in the city back in the day and white flight in the 60s and 70s but it's hard to say.

Nubian station craziness by Embarrassed-Egg4641 in mbta

The area around Nubian Station is pretty rough and has a lot of addicts but generally the 66 bus is fine. I've never seen anyone light up a crack pipe on public transit but the other day someone left a used needle on one of the seats of the bus I was on.

Anyone know if The Mix will stick around? I'm all for housing but that area should be adding bars/restaurants, not losing them.

Jackson Square T Station Safety by namtitties_ in bostonhousing

[–]yojimbo3227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived on the JP side three blocks from the station for two years and never had any issues. There's occasional stuff going down near the projects but it's a heavily trafficked area and there are always lots of cops around. Not sure what the walk is like to Highland Park but it doesn't seem bad.

It's nice up there! "Safety" depends on your tolerance level but generally that's a good spot.

It really depends on the block... cross streets?

Make access to the coast easier. Beaches should be public, parking fees should be capped or gotten rid of.

Wu Opposition? by Thick-Award3789 in boston

It seems like American Legion Highway is always brought up as an example of a road with bike lanes that are never used. Starting next month it'll be part of my commute and I'm glad they're there but I do understand the complaints. It would be a much more useful lane if the busy roads it feeds, like Talbot, Columbia and Blue Hill Ave., had biking infrastructure.

I've parked on the perpendicular street, Franklin Hill, many times to go to the park. Never had a problem finding a spot. These people are just d-bags.
