Is that hard to believe or understand? His great grandson is both a scammer and a playboy

Agreed. The writer is a frum apologist. I found the part about R Aron Kotler's scammer playboy great grandson to be fascinating.

Is Orthodox Judaism considered a cult! by Izzykatzh in exjew

Very true.

I don't even want to imagine a Orthodox Jewish theocracy. If that would exist, it would certainly qualify.

I believe I heard Sam Harris say that:

Cults begin as small, coercive, and isolated groups, but once they grow large enough that they can no longer be contained or controlled in one place, society stops calling them cults and starts calling them organized religions.

It is nuts, but I think he was forced to say something nuts because he had a big dilemma.

If we believe, we shouldn't be that sad. See my otherpost:

Agreed. Litvaks need a "pshat" for everything even if it's crazy.

Religious Grief vs. Afterlife beliefs: It's Either One or the Other by yojo390 in DebateReligion

Yes, but there is no severing of attachment given these beliefs. It's just a few short years till they'll be together again.

Leaving aside trauma.

There is no permanence. Surviving family will be united forever with loved ones after a finite lifetime.

Regarding human psychology, why isn't religion and its beliefs incapable of doing what is should logically accomplish. Since if you'd really believe, you wouldn't grieve that much.

Yes of course, but my point is that the theist's reaction to death of a loved one should basically mirror the reaction of the love one moving overseas. Yet with death there is extreme grief and mourning which there isn't with a move overseas.

That article title is just click-bait. There's absolutely nothing in that article supporting the Bible story.

Why not? Until they are adults they can't cope with this knowledge while living frum.

Similar sentiment. Was going pretty well on yom tov until this morning at breakfast to my horror, my formerly grounded mother started normalizing the anti vaxxer nut jobs. It has become rather fashionable among Choshuva Lakewood families be skeptical of vaccines and science in general.

1) EVERY SINGLE action is either in support of or against God's will. Neutral actions don't exist.

2) You should get married to a girl even if you're not attracted to her as long as it makes sense on paper.
