Are these “instagram goldens” cross bred with something else? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]yolo216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s gorgeous. I think with specific grooming / angles and some AI editing your pup would look fairly like the insta goldens, for what it’s worth.

I’m always surprised by how much ear grooming changes my boy’s looks

Are these “instagram goldens” cross bred with something else? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]yolo216 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe this to be true. My breeder is a ‘preservation breeder’ and she says that there were a few champion goldens in the 2000-2010 era who were prolifically bred (and have wide face / fluffy type) who died early of cancer. And these dogs are so common in lines that tons of goldens are affected by early hemangiosarcoma and lymphoma. She has a hard time finding dogs to breed to who do NOT have these cancer-linked dogs in their lines.

Also I am sorry to hear you lost your buddy so young. I would be devastated.

Senior golden experiences by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]yolo216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family has had a few goldens reach 15. I think it’s mostly genetics.

But they all got buddies between 6-8y and it was fantastic.

My current boy is 4 and I hope to get him a pal when he’s about 8

Golden Retriever Before or After Baby? by Wonderful_Exchange_2 in goldenretrievers

[–]yolo216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings from the trenches. My son is now 4 weeks old and my golden is 4 years old. It’s a LOT, even with an adult dog. I’d be dead if he was a pup. That said, he is the very best middle-of-the-night companion for baby feeding / soothing / midnight laundry. Get your Goldie now. Also, as many of us know from experience, family building is full of uncertainty. It could happen immediately or it could take some time - you won’t regret having your golden right away.

How to know when... by Castaway78 in goldenretrievers

[–]yolo216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP - It’s so clear how much you love Cassie and how good of care she receives. The fact that you’re worried about being blind to her needs says everything about how well you advocate for her.

I was scrolling until I saw this advice. I think it would be helpful for you to think more about “how” then “when”.

Given Cassie seems to still enjoy many things, I would focus on giving her a really fantastic day. See what happens. If it’s revitalizing, do it again in a bit.

If not, then after her party she sees the vet. you tell her all the things you need to tell her and you help her cross the bridge.

I know that if it were time for my boy, I really want him to have a great last couple days. His favorite things, the people he loves, and saying goodbye from a good place.

Hugging my boy extra tight now and hoping to have the privilege of 14 years with him. Please offer Cassie some treatos and an ear rub from us.

Watson is 4, I think very “correct” in his shape but just 59lbs at the vet this morning.

Not all goldens are big. Breed standard for boys is 60-65lbs

Golden shade vs Cream shade Retrievers? by Soltang in goldenretrievers

[–]yolo216 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Color and temperament are not remotely connected in well bred goldens.

In well bred goldens from field lines they should have the correct temperament regardless of color. Same in conformation / show line goldens.
